  1. Well, this is pretty new to me...Wanna start getting into tying more "classics." What are the advantages / disadvantages to the blind eye (technique?) Were blind eye hooks the original way of tying flies? I've read that it allows for a better swim in the water, but I can't really picture the difference between a blind eye and standard hook swinging along? Thoughts?
  2. I like to stitch any tears with 10lbs maxima and then load on the aqua seal on both sides. Duct tape flat while liquid so you get a nice smooth surface. Can never seem to keep a pair of waders leak free...
  3. It just won film of the year at the Powder Awards... such an amazing flick. The boys who made it had an awesome shout out to Sarah Burke and Rory Bushfield... Good on em.
  4. ^In relation to the video or just in general?
  5. Lucky for sure! Even saw some pretty large fracture lines in bounds over Christmas...
  6. For a bunch of outdoorsmen, sounds like you guys watch a hell of a lot of tv!
  7. In my mind, it is definitely not as effective as nymphing as the metabolism of the fish will have slowed down meaning they are not as willing to chase down a fly. However, fish will still take a streamer if it is placed right in front of them. Fish em deep and super slow...leave them on the dangle and strip back slowly.
  8. Can't go wrong with Ski Cellar on 17th sw...they know their shiz. Fresh sports in Kensington is also rad, talk to Dave. What kind of boots are they? Different places will specialize in heat fitting certain brands over others.
  9. Deer hair and other materials can get mites. Can you visibly see any critters on it? Throw it in an air type ziplock if it isn't already stop the spread. I've never had the problem but have heard of people bagging and throwing materials in the freezer to kill em.
  10. check out speypages they have lots of good info on the basics
  11. " Anglers’ perceptions of detection (i.e., certainty of punishment) increased with enforcement effort, but not with the use of warning posters." -People over posters, the only logical way to truly enforce regulations of our fluvial systems. Where does this leave us? - Between a rock and a hard place, where does the much needed extra funding to employ additional SRD officers come from?
  12. Setting the hook with the slick shooter can be a trick, especially if them temperatures are low and your fingers are cold. - Can't remember where I read it, but if you take a small amount of rubber tape and apply it to the top inch of the cork, it will provide some what of a tacky area where you can more easily pinch the line to help with slippage problem. The slick shooter has a lot less resistance to the water making lifting the line and big mends easier. Having the ability to lift the running line with ease almost allows you to 'nymph' the shooting head. Coils can be a bit of a pain, usually just stretch out a good amount of shooting line at the start of the day. I wouldn't go back to a regular set up after using the slick shooter.

  17. I heard once you fish the bow with a perimeter ban, the next step is habitual reefer smoking. Be careful out there guys...
  18. Jet boats are not allowed above the Deerfoot extender bridge... Although, I could be wrong.
  19. stream flows, in depth weather, eye ball reports.
  20. Silly goose... I know where I'd be heading if I were in Cgy.
  21. The first fly in the second photo looks like you have tied in the rabbit backwards. If you tie it in the other way i think it will give it a smoother look. As for size, you wanna match the size of baitfish that current available in the stream. Sometimes something bigger will entice a chow session.
  22. same, thanks for the info and the pm's guys... been playing phone tag with a few guys but nothing really seems to be playing out.
  23. That's deep for a big ol' Samsquanch. Rule #1-Make sure waders are in the car before driving to the old man in March. Rule #2- Save sausage and cheese from your timmies breaky sanny, fish love it.
  24. Hey all, Wondering if anyone has worked at any fishing lodges in the Queen Charlotte region of B.C. I've currently applied to work on the deck crew at a few lodges... Has anyone experienced this type of work? I am wondering what a typical day would include... so far my knowledge is that I will be cleaning and fueling boats, arranging and setting up gear, cleaning and packing fish, general upkeep around the lodge, and.....? If I don't hear back from the lodges, then it's back to the good ol' tree planting for me. Any input is appreciated
