  1. I've tried the winter swingin thing when I get super tried of nymphing, as previously mentioned... its not really productive. I would think that if you were streamer fishing with bait fish type patterns they would be a little larger, to imitate the fry the have grown a bit since their hatch ? When it's cold, I find nymphing generally easier because your line is moving through the guides more frequently and doesn't have as much time to freeze up between casts.
  2. people slalom 1000, bring a few chair ride beers, stop in the trees for break and any day can be a good time.
  3. I like to keep a gaff handy...
  4. just get er right done eh! Have a goood'r
  5. Gorgeous white fish dude! that brown aint bad either
  6. sick ties man.
  7. The vid's not coming up there dude
  8. Just picked up BFGs Km2's, they are the ten ply model for my tacoma, and i dig em. little noisy at 110km+ though... Hey slingshotz, how do you figure a ten ply tire would ruin your suspension? I could see if the tire was much to large or causing rubbing, but i don't think the stiffness of the tread would have anything to do with it. Not picking a battle, just curious
  9. Do you guys carry Pilsner?
  10. Bum hurts bradley with the fighting words!
  11. Good on ya Fish Tales, nice meeting some new folks and trying some new sticks.
  12. You wanna mimic their food sources; White fish(white/brown/pink), cutthroat(green/pink/white red), suckers(grey/blonde/black)... Smaller bulls with also eat the dry flies. For streamers, they gotta be heavy to get down to the botton of pools. Your flies need lots of movement (marabou, ostrich, rabbit) size of fly depends on size of the fish. Not all bull trout are gunna chow gigiantic flies, smaller streamers will also get you fat cutties
  13. well done man, that is a gooder
  14. Well like most things "fly- fishing," there is no right or wrong way to do anything. Its like fast and slow action rods, everyone has a personal preference or what is most comfortable for them to cast. Same same with reels... People like em light to make the rod seem slow or heavier to make the rod tip seem quicker, as stated in Birchy's article. You can also use lead wire to fine tune the weight of your set up, so no, you don't have to go into the fly shop and test the balance of the set up with half the line out... The finger on the cork is to get a general idea. I used to fish a CLW on my spey rod and that is a super light reel weighing in at 191 g's, and picked up and Evotec which weighs 225g's, I personally like the extra weight... the rod isn't totally balanced with the reel draggin it down a little, but it feels good to me. Anything else to add Canadensis? You seem to have tons of great input...
  15. How do ya do it then? Fill all of us in, mighty wise one.
  16. Im sure somebody uses a 3wt for salt water situations... all big fish gotta start out small right. I can't think of a disadvantage of having a sealed drag in reels even if they are only used in freshwater. You seem to right into the discussion dude, I agree that a disc drag is probably not needed on a three weight, but why not have it anyways?
  17. That is really cool man, keep it up.
  18. Pretty sure the FC gates are open till 8 now. double check
  19. Some dogs need a hefty kick in the arse, and some people just shouldn't have dogs. Sorry about the capes dude...
  20. One of those days on a new piece of water, wet and grey. Walked from about 9 30 in the morning till about 6 in the evening... Some of the best days i can recall on the river don't necessarily include fish but rather those cool fall days full o' color
  21. I fish a Beulah 11'6 6/7 but i think i would enjoy something in the five weight range... Next time ya see a dude on the river with a spey ask him what he is fishing and to give it a shot.
  22. Fish will for sure chow harder on bait fish imitations like spoons or streamers in the summer time. They just don't have to expend as much energy in the warmer water to catch their dins. However, I find that most of my success with streamer patterns in the winter just depends on how slow you can get the drift and the retrieve. In my mind, the slower the better! Size differentiation between streamer flies and lures is probably the same(never fished spinning gear). Bigger the lure, bigger the fish, but maybe less fish. Smaller lure, smaller the fish, but more of em. Biggest fish i've caught on the bow with the smallest fly in my box. Its all about what they are chowin on that specific day. Maybe it will be 10 minnows or 150 midge's. There was a dope article written by Rickr on the main page about nymphing and water structure, all these articles are good stuff: http://flyfishcalgary.com/articles.php
  23. I always think hook pointed up and barbells on the bottom side of the fly, like max said, the fly wont snag as much when fished right on the bottom.
