Ok so someone paints 40 bright orange dowels.... 20 inches long. Team A and Team B must have a digital photo of each fish longer than 2 inches. Most fish at or over 20 inches wins... the prize? The losing team has to cook (bbq) and clean up, the supper No other prizes. Random team draw, once team A and B have been set up, you can form fishing "groups" and depart for the day. There would be a set return time... at which time the BBQ and some stories could be shared (and maybe a silent auction) This way it's FUN and not too competitive. Maybe ONE random draw prize at the BBQ... and the rest is a silent auction. Entry would be like $25 bucks... Just throwing ideas out here.

It can be done! The biggest bull trout I've ever even seen let alone hooked took my streamer which I had basically emtied a bottle of floatant onto. It was a huge 8 inch long lefty's deceiver (unweighted, thank god) and a bull was seen to eat a dead fish off the top just prior. I had two chances at the fish and second try I hooked it. It was probably the closest thing I've seen to 40 inches of trout - in alberta. Never did land it but my buddy (who's tagged bulls and studied 'em) thinks it was near or better than 40. So come on Greg. You only need to fish on the surface, for alberta's biggest trout... oh almost forgot to mention, one fly only! Left handed casting only, from downstream quartering across, the tobacco pipe MUST be out the RIGHT side of your mouth.... no exceptions.

Wow.... I'll never get that 20 minutes of my life back.......... :$*%&: Great thread.... not Fly fishing is what you want it to be so long as your within the regs. I personally like the options alberta gives you in the fact that you can (if your SMART) tie 3 nymphs on and much more quickly find out exactly what the fish are keying on. Once that's accomplished, I usually go back to 2, one for weight and one for food. I guess our boy here Orvis has : - never "trolled" from his pontoon boat in a lake (that wouldn't be fly fishing) - never nymphed with any weight or sp[litshots at all, ever - never fished a streamer - never fished spey or two handers - never cast blindly - EVER - to the water without first sighting a RISING fish. Quite simply boring if you ask me.

My brother was working in Santa Fe, Texas (between Houston and Galveston). Haven't heard yet if the shop they were trying to set up got damaged or destroyed. Minimal communications from my bro that's for sure.... all we got was a short e-mail "im going back to houston stop worrying"... lol -
How bout on the day of the thing, a random draw from a hat. you either get an "A" or a "B". that's your team for the day. A's can go fish with B's, and can count eachothers fish. Total most fish caught team gets to sit around while the losing team has to cook the supper. Done deal... everybody wins and it would still be a lot of fun. Thje winning team gets to boast and puff out their chests while the losers cook. All in good fun...

Trophy winner for the biggest taped fish over two days, and maybe the team with the most fish ... trophy to be handed down every year. The winner there gets a prize, must be verified and picture with tape, etc. The rest of prizes could be random draws. I like the idea. sometimes competition brings out the best in people. I love friendly competition.. but...sometimes, it brings out the worst... too... I've seen guys lose their heads over FRIENDLY competitions... like golf, fishing, etc.

That pool is a "gooder"

So replying to a thread where fish are clearly being harmed is unwarranted? where's your head? PS. I don't guide... dunno where you going with that one. Quit that a long time ago.

Fish laying on the gawddamn rocks is a lot more pressing than someone holding a nice bull trout OVER the water for the pics.... If your gonna bitch at this bull trout, just simply stop fishing. If it's +30C and the water temps 65-70 on the Bow.... I'll bet I can still find you on the Bow somewhere.... your doing JUST as much harm if not more. I'll also never want to see you on a steelhead stream... Or fishing for pike in the spring... Or fishing for ANY BROWN TROUT ANYWHERE right now as there getting ready to spawn soon... Oh yeah that means the ENTIRE bow... I mean dude..... hit the real issues like people leaving there *hit all over the place and leaving fish on rocks for pictures... we can ALL agree that's doing harm....

Soooo.... how cold was the water
-
Nice fish.... too bad you had to lay a lot of them or rocks and grass and remove their protective slime coating, and possibly kill them :$*%&:

You guys are bitching in here about this post yet you left another with fish laying on rocks and DEFINATELY being mistreated - alone??? what's the agenda folks?? Nice bull guys.

Best Fish Of The Year
Hawgstoppah replied to Pythagoras's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Geez my best fish of the year is the huge rainbow I got down close to home (30.5") in the srping at a private pond (not really a huge secret... palmer ranch) Close second is all the big bulls from "That river in the kooteneys" Some pics of them in the BC reports -
Nice fish ... the pose with the sunset is a great shot :-)

what a great post cam..... I'd often wondered the same thing. I can cast (with double hual) about 60-70ft with my 10ft 6wt bow river rod, but when I was out there I found the water covered was so, soooooooo, much better with a two hander

Atv And Fishing Experiences
Hawgstoppah replied to Xplorer's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Not at all. Try going down to texas or Arkansas or anywhere south. Any little patch of public land is beat bare with atv tracks. The problem is the alberta government doesn't have the balls to step up and protect the environment. And BC's does (as much as we complain about fees and everything else, at least there DOING something!!!)
