Flytyer, Recall trying to get tickets and were turned down for every venue. Watched the games on TV. Got to pay for them though! Saw two competors who wil likely never be allowed into another Games. Eddie the Eagle and the Jamacian Bobsled team. A shame that folks like that are gone. And the toughest competitor a Mexican Cross Country skier who was slower and got caught be a mountain storm. His wax selection made the skiing ugly. The front runners finished over 3 hours ahead of him but he didn't quit! The memory of Vancuver are somewhat different. Several things come to mind. CDN's spontaneously singing O Canada, CDN's celebrating all over downtown after the hockey win without burning a single car (unlike several weeks later), a young man winning gold in Free Style skiing with his parents by his side. Taco, Gotta agree with you. Anglers should and must do their part to preserve what is left BUT anglers are only a small part of why natives are disappearing. Seems like Jim S. said very clearly that stocking of BROOKIES was at fault. Wasn't that a professional biologist decision? Have we removed/changed this biologist mind? Land use is either staying the same or further deteriorating. What is being done about cows, quads, clear cutting? Frankly I getting very tired of anglers always carrying the ball for lousy decisions or actions by the "trained" & govt employed professionals. Don

Taco, There are many places where non-native fish will ever be the only game. A brief list could include: Both Ram Rivers above the "chutes", Bighorn above the falls, Prairie Creek sw of Rocky, upper Little Red, Torrens and on and on. Mind you, in some of the above cases, the interlopers are Cuts. And there are some cases where natives can no longer survive. A recent case was the Crow below the falls that got a good bunch of cuts after the flood in 1995. Only took a few years and they disappeared. Sometimes what is gone is gone! Don

Fishinlivin, I can only ehco Terry's opinion. Although the weather in southern Alberta can be sometimes interesting, with BC as close as it is, the Crow has a pile of advantages. Don

Good God, I may have recalled incorrectly but I was positive that the $80 buck number was quoted in a tar sands discussion last year. It, again if I can recall correctly, was a justification for the $125+/bbl. selling price and how the profits weren't all that high. As far as CAPP, they are representing their members interests and as such putting forth info to reflect their interests. As far as me believing CAPP, I worked for years to get some protection for fresh water in Alberta and some of the info put forth by CAPP has an interesting spin. Folks, I don't know about you but there seems to be a lot of bull flops laying around. 1) remember when you were told that the break even point for oil sands was $80 and the price is now $40. Now I know damned right well that if I was building 100,000 rods per day and lost $40 on each one, I'd be outta business. 2) alberta govt yaps about low oil prices is the issue - did they forget that most of the big bucks came from land sales. Oil sands pay little in royalty and conventional crude production has been falling for years. 3) keystone is going to get used by who - see #1. In fact, you just have to wonder if trans Canada is going to build it. 4) the US from what I read is going to be awash in oil and trans Canada is going to build a pipeline 5) what most people don't realize is oil sands product is lot closer to pavement than water. It takes specialized equipment to move it in pipelines & ships + at the arrival end, the refineries and tankage have also to be specialized. Further, Oil sand asphalt contains hydrogen sulphide - this is not sweet crude that gets top $ in the market place. Oil sand asphalt will always be discounted big time And that is enough reality for now Don

Taco, Rod manufacturers will continue to use materials that provide a greater economic benefit to themselves. Whether or not the newest/greatest is a better rod will only rest in the hands of the angler. Of course, the views of the angler are manipulated by their peer group & advertising. Unlike many, I own and use rods of greenheart, bamboo, Fiberglas and graphite. Each of the rods have their place. Catch ya' Don

Wonder where the loading terminal will be located? If it's along the Crow, looks like the land just east of the Hospital is about the only one large enough for 100 car trains. The other two locations are just west of Blairmore on the river flat is mostly silt. Farther west may be an option along the river. Longer haul from the mine face though. Looked over Google Earth @ the other mine locations on the Elk. Gives one a feeling of what could be coming. Upside though... The effluent from the mone may increase the nutrient load in the Crow thereby replacing the nutrient clean up of the sewage. The bug life may rebound to what was seen n the1980's! Don

Jim, A number of questions arise from the proposal: 1] If the Mininster supports a listing in 2009, obviously the cuts were in trouble years earlier. What does it take to motivate SRD? Seems like 5 % is firmly shoving the door closed after 95% of the damage is done. 2] The Govt is the custdodian of the land - land use practices are thier responsiblilty. Why were they not dischared to maintian cut populations? And now we have a Recovery Plan. I see a recovery plan a little different that you guys. Look @ it this way. A management plan means you put on a parachute BEFORE your jump outta the plane. A recovery plan is required only if you couldn't get the parachute on when falling. And what you guys should really do is look @ the number of Recovery Plans created by SRD and ponder if pro-active management would have reduced or eliminated them. And laslly, any chance a person could see the recovery plan? I wonder if other causes of the cuts demise are addressed and just how it will be done. regards, Don
