Pontoon Boat, Frame Vs Framless.
DonAndersen replied to dube's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
dube, I have an Scadden Escape and used it once. Works OK. Foot bar would work with boots but doesn't with fins. My boat has 8' tubes and I use it <>90 days/year. Longer tubes are only necessary if you go with standup. The shape of your tubes is critical. Severe rocker means that the boat sinks further into the water. Plus the piece sticking up which doesn't do a lot except act as a sail. Severe rocker is a pain in thin water. Hangs up regularly. My tubes are flat on the bottom. I don't draw a lot of water. The Oldman above the damn, the Clearwater near Rocky, the Waterton above the damn, the Belly + others here and there have many "thin" sections where severe rocker means you line the boat rather than rowing it. I've had aluminum frames - they break - and two friends broke - different manufactures. Mind you we use our boats - some don't - those boats last forever. I've got a boat with tubes by a guy from Red Deer, Seat by Bucks, two of the side bags by Bucks, Two other bags by Scadden, Oars by the Chinese, frame by Outcast. I wear things out. For the money, Outcast is about the best value. Scadden is great but more $'s. A friend has two Bucks - both work great although internal bags are very thin. Light boat though. Like anything. No boat will work for everybody or in every instance. regards, Don -
F%#king Oil Companys Did It Again

Pipeline failures are quite commons. See: http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/minerals-metals/mat...logy/picon/3308 From which this is copied. As of the end of 1997, there were approximately 266000 km of energy-related pipelines under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Energy Utility Board. The inventory of pipelines in Alberta continues to grow, averaging an annual increase of about 4% during the 1990s. These pipelines carry many substances, including: sour natural gas highly volatile products (propane, ethane, butane, and combinations) crude oil (sweet and sour) oil effluent multiphase (sweet and sour) gas and oil light volatile products (liquid fuels) natural gas fuel gas salt water miscellaneous liquids gases fresh water From 1980-1997, a total of 12 137 operating pipeline failures were recorded, averaging 674 failures per year. Internal corrosion caused the majority (about 50%) of these failures. -
fishinglivin, Bamboo rods that are >$2500 in price range were generally built by a small group of people of which most are dead. And that only applies to rods <8' long. Longer rods are discounted a lot. Watch Ebay and see what a rod similar to your is selling for. It's the best place to get some sense of the pricing. regards, Don

fishinglivin, Replacement of a guide is dead easy. Getting the right guide to match the existing ones may be somewhere different story. If you are content to get close, then it's a simple matter. Rods of that length are typically inexpensive. Don

Pontoon Modification Question
DonAndersen replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
just... There is something to be said for going slow and watching. Time after time paying attention to just the tiniest clues will yield decent fishing. The tiniest clues for the boat users are lost in a burst of speed and a endless search for easier fish. Buzzing along here and there just wastes good fishing time. If you ever watched a heron fish, there isn't a plastic prop on his butt. Patience does it. Mind you, you can troll effortlessly. Some thing the newest large arbor reels and plastic rods do well. catch ya' Don -
Pontoon Modification Question
DonAndersen replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
For all you motor users out there. Something you should consider is fishing rather than going from end to end of the lake. Watched it many times - crank up the motor head off here make a couple of casts, crank up the motor and head there to make a couple of casts. At the end of the day, lots of touring but not much fishing. That is the reason that of the nearly dozen guys I fish with occasionally, only one owns a motors which is rarely used. We'd rather fish. And just so you know, we all could afford one. regards, Don -
Pontoon Modification Question
DonAndersen replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Terry, Your OLD just like me. You understand the value of exercise. Just them young folks that need a motor. Remember a guy on a lake that allowed gas motors. He pulled and pulled cussing all the time about his rotten gas engine that wouldn't start. I finned along side and waved a fin @ him with the comment "starts first time every time". catch ya' Don -

Folks, Public Safety on Canadian Waterways is managed by the CDN Coast Guard. If the issue is safety or environmental, they are the people to talk to. If it's ignorance, there is no cure. Don -
420FLYFISHIN Using the web site below, open it and in the lower right hand corner is a link to a PDF document [ View ourrainbow trout strains etc.] that explains the 2N, 3N and 3NAF process. http://www.gofishbc.com/fish-facts/fish-st...ed-strains.aspx regards, Don

Conor, Unlike the ice fishing zoo, you'll have the lake to yourself when fishing for lake whites. They are readily caught on chironomids or caddis nymphs. What us tough to do though is releasinge them The warm water of the southern lakes seems to exhaust them and it's really tough getting them going. Can be done, just gotta take your time. Great fun catching 2>5 lb. whites on nymphs. regards, Don

I really don't get it - well it isn't the first time. Why are a great number all hot and bothered about Redford's spending and not a word about the enormous debit the Harper has shoved down our throats. All the ballyhoo about Redford and Harper gets away without a single comment. Are they not both spend like crazy types. Least Redford is spending it on Alberta. Don

Looking @ the map of who got elected where, we have a split in Alberta just south of Calgary with nearly all of the area voting SoCred/Reform/WCC/WRP or similar. By in large the rest of Alberta went PC. See: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politi...article2405211/ Can there be some conclusions drawn? 1] Balkanize Alberta about High River? 2] Southern Alberta wants to reduce farm subsidies. 3] Southern Albertians have a sense of humor. zed, In the past while, I've dealt with 2 Fishing Buddys. One froze to death and the other works every now and then. The dead one is buried in a land fill. The other has been replaced. Hummingbird makes 'em.

Today the Dept of Homeland Energy announced the new route for the Oil sands to the coast. It will take a abrupt turn to the left, twice around Glenmore Dam and head through Canmore. Steve Harper's residence will not be effected according to inside sources. Oh crap - did I miss April Fool's Day. I was in Vegas. Don

fishinglivin, If these PDF's do not have a DOT Approval Number silk screened onto the vest, they are illegal for use in Canada. Both Cabella's and Bass Pro sell products in the US that do not have the DOT #. I've never looked @ their products in Canada. Perhaps they conform to CDN laws. regards, Don -
Lee Valley tools brings to the table the ultimate in measuring tapes. You can mark it up with your very own measurements be they feet/inches/mm/cm or here's hoping. See: http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx...amp;cat=1,43513 Beats all hollow the one made for Dougie of 1" bra elastic. He always caught them over 20". The tape was only 15". Don

The poll reflects that geological location. Calgary and south has always believed that its is the only area capable of anointing the king. Anybody from somewhere else is just plain bad. So now Calgary is flummoxed. It's got 2 righters. What to do? Smith is working hard spending big bucks. One has to wonder whose pockets all the money is coming from? Cons have a lot less signs. Mean much - maybe shows who is going. What is obvious is that from Manning>present, fisheries resources in Alberta have suffered. One has to wonder how the right is going to right this problem. Don

Desiccant Silica Gel
DonAndersen replied to fishinhogdaddy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Guys, Desiccants need to be "revitalized" every now and then. Spread the desiccant on a oven safe pan and heat to greater than 250F for an hour or so to drive off the H20. Cool before placing back into the plastic container. I'd do it <>once per month or so. catch ya' Don -

Taco, You forget already - you said "Makin's my ass... I don't join Geezerdom for 'nother 3 point 5 yrs " and this was followed by "rascible? Well I'm only up to the ornery stage so I'd guess geezerdom is is still somewhere in the future. Forgetfulness - another sign of geezerdom. It was 3.5 years wasn't it. Don
