  1. Hey Tony, When you're ready to give up your car, the heat in your house and the meals on your table, let the oil industry know and they'll quit drilling and ergo stop having these unfortunate accidents. Let's see who can come up with something unique and not repetitive to say to an old argument and future thread that is going to end in a closure by the mods....I got nothing right now
  2. I never leave my fishing gear in my vehicle. In fact, I don't leave anything in there but a cheap pair of sunglasses and the odd water bottle and tennis balls for the dogs. I learned from parking at a C-Train parking lot, where other cars got broken into, what to leave and not to leave. You know those fancy garage door openers? Got one? Then don't leave your insurance or anything with your name or address in your vehicle. 2+2 = house broken into through the garage. And always remember, if you leave said garage opener device in your car, to flip the power switch to your garage at night or when you're away for an extended period of time. Sorry for the big of sideways threadjack there Rick....but I'd like to know how someone broke into your car with no damage....did they pick the lock? Sorry to hear about your radios being jacked...but glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. That's the kind of lesson you don't want to have - an almost-lesson is good enough there hey?
  3. Any place that sells raw dog food - BARF diet stuff. Here in the SE of Calgary I get mine at the Barking Lot or Pet Planet. They come in small, medium and large (knuckle) bones.
  4. We used to use artificial turf from Home Depot...cost us $50 for the whole season...that bought us enough for the whole length of the trailer and the width of the awning....and it stayed down until end of season when we rolled it up and threw it out. For you...probably $30 or so for your trailer.
  5. The way you told that story made the hair on my arms stand on end by the time I got to where you said what it was!!! Tell ya what...I'm heading out on Sunday....I'll catch him and take a picture for ya mkay? LOL
  6. Any bone that is not raw - i.e. right from the animal and packaged or frozen is considered cooked or "processed"....but it is cooked in some manner. I do agree that raw bones can hurt your dogs too....your dog has to have the "constitution" to handle raw food. I have a lab that can't have anything but his kibble or he's puking and crapping for days. Literally - anything - even too many milk bones send him over the edge. But I've got a golden who has eaten raw chicken breasts, thighs, turkey necks, backs, buffalo bones, knuckles - and loves it and it agrees with him. So...ya...you gotta be careful. But no dog should ever get a cooked bone - I stand by that statement and so do the professionals who know about dogs.
  7. I'm so archiving this thread. There are a lot of rocks in that river that I predict will make contact with my boat...and I have a feeling I may one day need this advice.....
  8. Well Kyle...not a beer lover but I do love my wine. And Zyn also has an AMAZING selection of wine at great prices. I've met Kyle (Kyle...I'm the blonde that was looking for the Frog's Leap Cab that runs the wine meetup group) and I can tell you that these guys run an A-1 establishment - and I've been to every single one in Calgary to compare. It's worth a couple of hours of your time to explore if you haven't already. I think I might have to try some of them beers one day
  9. A friend of mine got a couple of puppies and I positively CRINGED when I saw them chewing on a T-Bone from a BBQ'd steak they just cooked. I went out on a limb at the risk of offending her and told her the many reasons why those types of bones are bad for dogs and, thankfully, she was very thankful. I know we have had past posts on this and a couple of sick doggies, but I ran across this article this morning and I thought it serves as a good reminder. Our policy on dog bones as per our breeder and our vet is nothing but raw buffalo bones - if it's cooked it can kill. They give the chewing satisfaction without all the health risks of "cooked" bones. Spread the word dog lovers! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,591364,00.html
  10. Sorry....no motorcycles allowed in the boat.
  11. Well Well.....progress at last. We bought this little craft....used to someone, new to us....can't wait to throw it in the river.
  12. Didn't I see Clive somewhere in another thread as I was reading through late last night? He surely must have lost my email....haven't heard from him since 1985 Gonna fish the Bow with us this year Cowboy? Will this be the year? Got a funky new boat you'd look good parked in the back in
  13. If'n you quit riding crotch rockets and learned what your priorities are, you wouldn't be in this predicament.
  14. That'd be the one I thought it was....didn't you find that guy in a Beaver Pond though Dean? Brian - I have what you're looking for on my downstairs computer somewhere....I'll try and find it and post it....been a few years. Great memories guys!
  15. I heard it was taken from a Beaver pond, no? I remember Brian's bull trout...the first time I saw that pic the words Holy **** just kept coming out of my mouth over and over. It remains the most impressive memory I have of a Bow River fish yet. We don't even bother with pictures of fish unless they're taped over 23 inches. That's where our biggest sit right now. But the new fish kharma of our new boat is gonna change that this year - and I'll have my camera ready for this same thread at the end of the season. See ya then.
  16. Not having much luck finding someone off kijiji yet that is giving me the confidence that he will build what I want, so am looking for recommendations for man/company who does good work in terms of deck building. Need a front porch rebuilt - no railings, just the wood base and stairs. I know what I want, just need someone who knows and has proven that he knows what he's doing. And won't charge me a gazillion dollars to do it. Thanks!
  17. Big guy....you know the Honda generator we had when we had our trailer and I'd do it all over again. IMHO, that's what you want to do. Whisper quiet and can charge your batteries or just run your electrical. The generator will probably outlast your trailer - and you can take it with you wherever you go. It's worth the $1,300 new or I'll bet you can find a good used one.
  18. ahhhhh....that's what I was thinking about. Thanks!
  19. So Louise isn't starting shuttling until after Easter. Anyone of the other shuttles working yet? With record-breaking temps next week there's some certainty we'll be needing one before April 7th. With regards to Policeman's Flats - do you need a key or special privileges to launch from there or to take out? I heard at one time you did need a key or something. We haven't used that launch in over 7 years but since 22x is not open, it looks like it's Glenmore to Police for a float until everything opens up.
  20. I have to disagree with this one. Having lost one oar on our current boat from setting them down for 2 seconds and a rock hitting it an throwing it out of the lock (thankfully there was a guy in a canoe ahead of us that caught it), I won't take that chance again. I like to rest the oars (or more correctly, my arms) when I'm not rowing and I think these are a necessity for us. Love to hear why people don't like them though...I might be convinced to get something else....
  21. Need to buy a pair of Oar Rights for a Hyde drift boat. Can't seem to find any place locally that sells them on the www....anyone know of any place? If not, I guess I'll order from Hyde. But rather just go pick a pair up if we can.
  22. Rowing frame with 2 seats, custom rear seat that can be removed or added easily, rod tubes made out of plumber's pipe, plastic bins to hold everything that can't see water and mandatory coffee holders on the rowing frame.
  23. awwww...he's so adorable! I was expecting something furry with four legs, but he's much nicer Congratulations to you all!
  24. Losing a dog is one of the toughest things in life. I, like many on here, know what you and your wife are going through. My condolences on the loss of your sweet pup.
  25. Video games, texting, computer games, Facebook...I blame the downfall of our unsocialized and depressed youth on electronic "progression". I like to think it's regression. We're raising a generation of kids who don't know how to interact on a face-to-face level like their parents did/do. They don't know how to use their thumbs for anything but A, B, and Jump on a game controller. They don't know what's entertaining outside of zoning out in front of a screen. And I speak from experience and authority. Case in point: we completely removed video games and computer from my almost-16-year-old's life last summer because from sun up to sun down he'd be in the basement during his summer vacation playing video games. I'd had enough (plus the shitty report cards due to excessive gaming and no homework didn't help either). So...what did he do....got on his bike or skateboard and went and hung out at Fish Creek Park and made some friends. Got to know some girls. Probably did some stuff that I don't wanna know about but he was outside and learning what it's like to be a normal, functioning, social teenager. BUT, take away the video games and all of a sudden his friends who do nothing but, were no longer calling or coming over. It's what they have in common. It's what they do. And now all of a sudden, there's less kids around because they're all inside gaming and they're not interested in coming over if you're not allowed to do that. Queue moderation - video games and computer on weekends only and set your own time limit or mom's gonna do it for you. That went over like a lead bomb, so back they went. Lesson learned and only one month of being banned I think the teenager has figured it out. As with everything else, all things in moderation. But many parents just don't give a *hit and will let their kids play on those things when they should be in bed, when they should be doing homework and when they should be out playing. Winter is long in this province and I have no problem with allowing more time in the pursuit of electronic entertainment. But all that can get lost when it gets nice out. We have a kid across the street whose parents have no TV in the house. GASP - imagine that, NO TV. I'm assuming probably no computer either. That kid is outside in his driveway with his net and goalie equipment playing hockey EVERY night before and after dinner when it's not below minus 10. Even in the dark. And lo and behold he's got some defensemen to come play too. And a couple of forwards. Mike likes to tell the story of how he grew up in East Van and in the summer they'd be gone from right after breakfast until dinner time (no lunch) riding bikes all the way to Stanley Park (I don't know VCR but I'm assuming that's a hike). No way with all the crazies could you do that now...times have changed. Long lost is the innocence and safety of letting our children have free reign. And that's the other big half of where the kids are. I encourage you parents who have video game/computer issues to restrict or outright ban for a period. Sure your kids are gonna think you're a bitch (or....***hole for you men)...but I don't mind being though of that way if it means I have a better than good chance of raising a better kid/adult because I'm a hardass about it. Which I do.
