  1. That's too bad....he took me fishing.....I guess I mean more to him than you.
  2. As hard as this may be to believe, I have never indulged in any drugs - no weed, no hash, no heroine, no pills, no shrooms...not a damn thing other than Advil and the occasional shot of morphine for good measure. Anyone else a narcotic virgin? Just to be clear....I have no intention of ever popping my cherry either. I figure if I haven't done it after 2 kids, a granddaughter and turning 40, it's just not meant to be.
  3. As much as I'd like to be a biotch and continue to harass Brad on his spelling, I have one. So....in my neighbourhood they've recently installed (within the last day or so) a new "No U Turn" sign where everybody and their brother has been making U-Turns for the last bazillion years or so. No problem - city did it for safety reasons, maybe a close call, someone got hurt, accident...whatever...totally justified. What I have a problem with is a police cruiser sitting there and catching the unfortunate souls who do not see the sign, and who have been doing this for years without even so much as a week or two grace for folks to see it and get used to it. Now, by and large, generally speaking and on the whole, I respect the CPS and appreciate what a tough job they sign up for. But this is ****ING ridiculous, unfair and nothing but a big ****ing cash cow plain and simple. Makes me sick. And, no, I didn't get caught.
  4. Oh ya...and one more thing. Find another saying other than "man up". Cuz I can't.
  5. I hate it when other people beat me to the spelling correction punch. I also hate people who pick their nose on the Deerfoot. They're idoits too - do it when you're going a hundred and not parked. Oh ya...and I can't stand my son's ex-girlfriend, mother of my granddaughter. She's a whore and if you want her number I'm giving it out.
  6. Wow....you guys are all so awesome for doing this. I wish I tied flies so I could help out. But high five to all who are...well done. And shame on Rick for trying to cash in
  7. Does Character =Smell? I think your wife has been messing with your fishing drawers there Cowboy....and not in a good way. Rick can probably relate LOL
  8. Taco doesn't have a ponytail.
  9. Damn......that's 10 seconds I'll never get back opening this thread.
  10. My husband Mike runs a drywall company - and he not only recommends Dens Shield Tile Backerboad as better than cement board but that's what we've used in all 3 of our full bathrooms. And if you think Mike Holmes is a stickler for "doing it right" you've never met my husband. If you have any questions or anything that doesn't seem right...feel free to ask me...I've been through a bathroom build and a gut and build about 5 times now and I could pretty much do it myself at this point LOL
  11. You find anyone yet? If not, we've got a guy that we've used for tile, hardwood, plumbing, bathroom, kitchen, etc. He's awesome - I'll give you his name if you don't have anyone...you won't be sorry.
  12. God I'm glad I ride the Express bus. Although now with the whole BRT crap, I might change my mind. Calgary Transit is like every other civic function right now - trying to play catch up with a city that grew too fast. And it's not doing it well - just doing it the only way it knows how. I personally agree that removing seats to accommodate 3 - 4 hours of rush hour service is ridiculous. I'd love to know what the actual # difference is to justify that. No matter - I will NEVER take the train again. Not the crowds that keep me away but the lack of security and general feeling of well being for me.
  13. How about all the hockey players that do it....I swear I"ve seen a Flame or two on the river over the past few years. John Travolta fly fishes...wonder if he busts a move while he's doing it. Kinda goes hand in hand when you're a pilot and you can fly to some of the best fly fishing places in the world. Our salmon fishing guide told us that Eric Clapton is a frequent visitor to the QCI's as well - guess he's quite the avid salmon fisher.
  14. That's kinda neat FFW...and anything that helps bring fish to the net is OK in my books. I once took my electric guitar out to the river to serenade the fish, but I had a hard time finding a place to plug in.
  15. I was gonna say sand crab. But now I just have the willies. Again.
  16. Well then....do I have a job for you. I guarantee that you wouldn't have that opinion if you were in our boat for a few hours. Rowing is an evil necessity and I don't particularly like it. It's the main reason we're likely going to buy a drift boat next year.
  17. Mike and I do 1.5 hours at a time. It works out really well and even steven for the 22x to Mac float when the water is at normal flows. That doesn't count stop times, but we always seem to know when to switch based on where we are in the water (i.e. rower gets the fisher's seat at the bend right before Policeman's Flats). I used to think "fish on and landed" was a good rule for switching, but then I'd be spending most of my time in the rower's seat
  18. That's true Rick - negative comments have more impact than positive. Frankly - I don't know that I'd buy the glasses I have right now again. I thought the bendy, light frames would be perfect since behind my ears and on the side of my head get so sore after a day of wearing regular glasses. They are pretty sweet in terms of comfort but you really gotta treat them with kid gloves. The other thing that kinda puts me off is that she said the polarization could wear off if subjected to salt water for a period of time - and she couldn't define "period of time". That's a problem since I wear them in Mexico and I plan to wear them for 4 days fishing in the QCI next week. However, she said if the polarization was affected they would replace the glasses. But after reading what I've read, I wonder how many times you're "allowed" to divest yourself of the warranty. Me thinks that there is a limit on how many times you can send in a pair of glasses. After all - $200 for a pair divided by 5 times sending them in and getting a new pair means they're only netting $40 a pair, so where is the limit for them? One other point: my EBAY feedback was 100% as a buyer and a seller until some dillhole from France hacked into it a year and a half ago and bought over $128,000 worth of goods and defaulted on payment. You would not believe the 6 month hassle I went through with EBAY to get these transactions reversed and everything straightened up - and still dealing with irate French sellers. Even at that I never got my perfect score restored because people kept filing negative feedback and EBAY refused to remove it anymore, so I shut my account down. I had a 4 year history built up there that became useless because it was my fault that my 10 character password which contained letters, numbers, caps and symbols was hacked into. So...I always make sure to find out why someone has a less than perfect score. Sorry for that aside...it's still a pretty sore point with me!
  19. So...I dropped my Maui Jims a couple of weeks ago at the 22x boat launch right as we're to get on the water. Figures. Took the corner of the lense and the right arm off. Talked to their customer service department and they told me to send them to the Mississauga office with an explanation of what happened, where/when I purchased them, no receipt required, and my contact info. Today, via UPS, I had delivered to me a brand new pair, no charges, no questions asked. To say that I'm very pleased by this experience is an understatement. In this day and age, this kind of product support and customer service is unheard of. I paid over $200 for these glasses and used them only for fishing - they're stellar. And I don't have a single regret about the $$ spent for them now. I'll continue to buy Maui Jims from now on - I like a company that stands by their word and their product. Oh...and yes I'm going to purchase a lanyard
  20. Are you kidding me? Money is far from everything???? Tell that to the masses who have been laid off this year who are losing their homes, their cars, their ability to feed their families and keep their kids healthy. And I'm not being melodramatic - this is happening all over the place - watch the news. I am certain that money can't buy happiness but money is the catalyst and the key to being able to live life. Without it...where are you? Doesn't matter what the facts or factors are in this great oil and gas debate that keeps occurring on this board, at the very base of it is money and people's livelihoods - and that will always matter most - to most.
  21. Wow....go away for a couple of days and you boys are still all in the sandbox. I typed out this huge, long reply and then deleted it. I'm done with wading into anything but a river - especially when it comes to this topic. BUT....I really feel compelled to say this. Certain people who believe that they can live and/or work in Alberta and not be affected by the boom and bust of the oil and gas industry is delusional and hypocritical and need a smack in the head with the baseball bat of reality. Case in point: I lost my job with an oilfield services company - whose work contracts in the oil and gas industry represented 45% of revenue. The other 55% was affected as well...company spiralled downwards, me and lots of others are gone. Case in point #2: my husband runs a construction company. When things fell in Alberta late last year and early this year, so did his business - oil companies aren't spending money, everything comes to a halt...just starting to recover. Case in point #3 - my son works for Tim Hortons. Up until this spring he had alot of hours and a good paycheque. Now he's barely getting 4 hours a week, if that. All across the board in terms of jobs and industries - ALL AFFECTED BY THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY. Careful what we wish for. So...in short....did anyone write any letters to anybody that matters or to anyone of influence or is the discussion merely contained to this board once again. I gotta go find that dead horse graphic now.
  22. See rickr's reason. I did used to be known as lynnr. But then I got married and had to change it. Clearly my creative side followed me along with my new name. At least I capitalize though
  23. Oh ya...knishes and latkes....Calgary needs a good Jewish food restaurant ala Toronto's Pickle Barrel. I've heard that My Marvin Deli on 4th and 22nd (is that the right name?) serves that stuff. But I've also heard it's not very good. Every time I find myself there I just go into Mercato for some pear and gorgonzola pizza and forget about the latkes.
  24. Don't get me wrong...I think discussion and debate is healthy - especially when it comes to this stuff and the futures of our children and grandchildren. But, seriously, this board has seen this stuff beaten to death (insert beaten dead horse graphic here please) and unless this board and the folks on it are willing to, and have the power to, take this discussion thread and somehow get major political attention by it, then it really is not productive. Anyone who is really concerned about this stuff (and we all are...just to different degrees) should write a letter to someone of influence and not debate it to death, again, with a bunch of fly fishers stuck inside because of the rain - or whatever. Kinda like the random camping issue - quit writing about it on here with no hope of resolve and write a letter. And, yes, I did....several of them.
  25. Ya. That's what I was tryin' to get at. Someone is gonna get banned eventually so we should just quit talking about this *hit now. We all work and/or depend on the oil patch to live. And our lives are more important than anything. And that's reality. End of discussion
