  1. Been on here off and on for a good few years now, seen a lot worse believe me....
  2. The sarcasm is heavy on this site....... just a heads up.
  3. Likely the same old, ages old situation of people who have never actually caught or landed a fish on a fly rod criticizing the technique of someone who did...
  4. I have a copy of his Fishing Knots book, that has the added bonus of his signature in the front couple pages that I didn't notice when I picked it up. Probably gonna pass that one down one day. Ken from Springbrook had some pretty cool stories about him the last time I stopped in there also. RIP
  5. Those things are ridiculous.... I've never seen anything close to the power they have. even hundred plus pound tarpon.
  6. Easy targets........ plain and simple. I parked beside a guy that had about 4 rigged up rods hung in his head liner the other day, with an empty trailer behind his vehicle. Pretty brave I thought.
  7. Picked one of these up in Montana a few weeks ago. It's killer. There was a ton of loose weed in the MO and our anchor line was constantly fouled and twisted, to the point dropping anchor was almost impossible. I looked at MEC for a climbing swivel, this is roughly the same $$. http://www.zigcollc.com/pulley
  8. Anyone been up that way and used one recently? Planning more of a scenic float, though will likely fish where legal also... Thx
  9. Some other things to consider with rope etc: -Larger diameter = greater amount of water friction -Single or double rigged pull = Single line/less friction/less mechanical advantage, Double line/greater mechanical advantage/greater friction
  10. I saw a picture of a rather large rubber "tool" snagged with a nymph rig once. Guy was a friend of a friend, so I assume it was legit.
  11. Mel Franklin is solid. 403-510-0138
  12. Never even thought about that......... Coke, cleans toilets. dissolves nails, and tastes great as a mix.
  13. Not to mention just keeping one eye on the ground when walking through any of the parking lots city wide, watching what comes out of dumpsters after a good rain, etc. etc.... Poorly maintained vehicles leak antifreeze/oil/diesel/gas in pretty appreciable quantities, which no doubt finds it's way in some amount into the watershed. Frac fluid isn't cheap (depending on the type obviously) and is, especially in this market, re-used if possible... same as drilling mud/invert type systems.
  14. Been beaten like a dead horse in the years I've been on this site, and never changes....... Much the same way I watched the front steps of both my townhouse and office building get destroyed because people can't seem to understand that it's a waste of time, much less grasp the fact that the broadcast rate need not be 5 pounds per square foot. And yes, I realize it ends up in the river as a result. Common sense, once again, is far too uncommon.
  15. There's still a section of the library back home referred to as the "Scammell Collection" Solid writer, I enjoyed his books quite a bit. RIP.
  16. Was it a white Honda Ridgeline (or something like that) with Shimano etc decals on it? I've seen him jet above the Deerfoot Extension bridge a couple times if so.
  17. Haha....... Yeah it's not uncommon, I bought a truck off the company I work for, the tailgate got lifted by some clown prior... Not easy or cheap to replace thats for sure.
  18. I shoot at Silver Willow, Dewinton, and Carstairs. Dewinton is a good option since it's close. I can't recall the membership/drop in details (I'm a member though at all 3) 25 clays per round of straight trap at either Dewinton or Carstairs and shells works out to about 15 buck a round if I recall. Carstairs is a round of 100 for sporting clays with a green or blue course for difficulty. The trap and sporting range border each other, I've only shot trap up there a few times but it's a good bunch of guys and some definite gun hands also. They have had some major opposition I think from acreage owners regarding noise, typical of people that build a house right near an active shooting range.
  19. Pretty much hit the nail right on the head.
  20. I can think of several just off the top of my head within a couple hours drive of here.. Pike hatch faster based on water temp, the warmer the better, something I read in what I figured to be a reputable source. The worst part about the larger end of the gene pool fish is that there are no shortage of people that just can't release a 40" plus fish. Not sure why that is but must be some sort of hero aspect or something. I grew up in a pike area and saw it often growing up, which I found ridiculous. They aren't worth a damn to eat out of warm water anyway, and the amount of eggs produced by large females per pound of body weight is exponential. They're a great game fish on fly or spinning gear and should be treated accordingly, not much in this area beats a 40" plus fish in shallow water hitting a streamer with bad intentions. Unfortunately they haven't often been viewed as such, which is pretty sad.
  21. Been on this site a good while, and I recall there being alot of congrats given to a certain "fisherman" whenever there were pics of coloured up bulls posted over the years. Always seemed ok among certain circles back then...
  22. His books barely left my truck in the fishing months... great read and got me to many spots I'd not have otherwise made it to for many years on my own. RIP.
  23. I just got told about this today, I don't frequent this place much these days.... I got an email from him earlier this week about Bullshead, and had a beer with him not long ago downtown. I fished with him a bit, not enough for sure. He had a passion for fishing in general that I've not seen in a long time, and one that I always enjoyed, having found less and less time to get out in the last few years. I got a kick out of talking old field stories with him, and seeing his clips as a driller on TV. We did a walk and wade on the Bow a few years back, and of course he had a few of his favourite IPA's with him in a pack. We fished a bit, and just had a good sit down and BS on the bank as we knocked back a couple. He was a hell of an angler for sure.. we talked often about getting out, he loved K Lakes and the Crow, (unfortunately we never made either trip together..) and had talked about getting out for pike in the spring. I'm still a bit shocked honestly. He was a genuinely good dude and I enjoyed talking to and hanging around him during the times I did. Go easy man... see you on the other side.
  24. Where about? Ironically I also grew up outside of Brooks with a stocked pond in the back yard.....
