  1. It's not quite like the keel hook (We have one this side of the pond, not sure if they are the same or not) it's more like the Sweedish dry fly hook. Here is a picture.
  2. Pliers, flies and my dignity on a couple dunking incidents.
  3. Nice video Tango. BTW, is that your LAW vise in the video? He makes an awesome vise.
  4. GL all, lots of great looking flies here. A few I'll be needing to try.
  5. LOL you think he has any honest money. Good luck with the Insurance company. My last dealing was pretty good, but it was just a little bumper thump. Crappy luck. Had a truck stolen in Calgary years ago, they took off the wheels and then rammed it with another stolen car. Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver are all pretty bad for this type of crime.
  6. Very cool, thanks for the link.
  7. Click here if the movie does not play.
  8. My recommendation is to buy materials for 4 or 5 flies that you use most often and start with that. Once you have tied up a few dozen flies, you'll have a pretty good idea if you like it or not, not everyone does. If you stick with it, you'll likely want to upgrade the vise from the one that came with your kit. There are tons of tutorial sites with some great pattern ideas. http://flyangler.ca/index.php?option=com_f...s&Itemid=42 http://flyangler.ca/index.php?option=com_c...3&Itemid=32 http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying/beginners/ http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/index.cfm http://flytyingforum.com/index.php?act=flyindex Of course, there is a wealth of knowledge here on the site, and lots of tyer who can help you out. Some videos http://copperfly.net/fly_tying_videos.php http://youtube.com/profile?user=topflyman When you find yourself walking behind a cute blond and you start thinking about using her hair to tie a fly rather than bounce a dime of her butt, you'll know you're in trouble.
  9. It took me a couple views, and a couple people to point out what was actually happening here. The angler hooks and lands a nice graying and then while he is reviving it, a pike come and attacks the fish he's trying to release, getting his hand in the action. It's a great video.
  10. Duncan loops and Improved Clinch knots most of the time.
  11. I remeber reading about a sighting near the Bear's Paw dam years ago. I'm sure that there may be something out there but to find a new species of megafauna would be something else.
  12. I've never seen em that big, and pink too.
  13. Not a lot of native carp in alberta. There are some stocked grasscarp and the odd Koi in a few ponds. I think that Quillbacks are likely your best wild bet, but they are pretty rare in Alberta. NSR has a few as well as a few around RDR in Dinosaur PP. The quills will take flies like nymphs, but I'm not sure about the grasscarp. bread flies?
  14. Gassed Peacock Chironomid Hook: Eagle River Scud #12-16 Thread: 8/0 Olive Dun Body: UNI Peacock Mylar Rib: Fine copper wire Thorax: Copper Diamond Dub Head: Copper bead Breathers: Midge Gill (Stillwater)
  15. The heads should add quite a bit of action. I found out at the show last year that you actually nee to trim it a bit to get the action you want. If you squeeze the cup between your thumb and forefinger and trim away the excess and then trim a bit from the bottom, you get action like in this video.
  16. Great entries so far. I think I'm in on this one.
  17. I'll give you your bumps at the show in Calgary. I'm sure I won't have any trouble finding anyone to help Have a good one young buck.
  18. I have a few dead horses too. One player hasn't even laced up this year.... 2 -4 player trade is what I was thinking.
  19. Here is the one I use. There is a base available for another 10 bucks. It's tall enough that it won't get in the way and is adjustable. For 20 bucks in all it pretty good as a tying lamp. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/20370383
  20. I see tons of women fishing. Somedays I see more women than men on the streams.
  21. No question about it. It'll make the rest of us pick up our socks.
  22. Sad news. It looks like he was just starting to become a master of the Classics. He has some nice ties indeed.
  23. We'll set-up a trade for the new year. Ya, I think we need to make a few changes as you suggest. It's a work in progress I guess. Let me hear your thoughts.
  24. All great looking flies guys.
  25. One of my favourite patterns. The peacock sword is sexy when it's wet, like nothing else.
