  1. Is there any specific way you can filet a rocky such that it is boneless? I haven't ever kept one mainly due to the fact that it was my impression that they were quite bony. However, I love fresh pike and can manage to get a boneless filet by removing the ybones.
  2. I have never been checked in AB. I seem to get checked once in every three trips to any of the special reg rivers in BC though.
  3. Putting a cheque in the mail tomorrow. Looking forward to getting my license checked while fishing for once!!
  4. I am all for increasing the cost of a license. You can't even golf 9 holes in calgary for the cost of one! If I know that each incremental dollar was going towards conservation, I would gladly pay 4 times as much.
  5. This is all just empty rhetoric unless we let our MLA's know how we feel! Look them up and let them know! http://www.elections.ab.ca/streetkey/skSearchPostal.cfm
  6. I believe, without question, that the issue of random camping needs to be addressed immediatly. There is no easier way to destroy vast natural areas than by having a series of unregulated campsites, especially when we are talking about several large trucks, campers and dirtbikes/ATV's. It is obvious that there are many groups of people that enjoy using this natural area. However, I don't think it is fair to ban recreational vehicles as I am sure their users enjoy using them as much as I enjoy fly fishing. Couldn't the alberta government pony up for some more campsites and outline some boundries in which recreational vehicle use is prohibited, i.e. anywhere near a body of water?
  7. I have been doing a bit more research and I guess that Last Mountain Lake in SK is a great spot to go in spring. I imagine it would be a bit of a challenge but I some some footage of the carp tearing into backing, looks like it would be a great fight!
  8. I stumbled upon this recently and have been enjoying the shows while I tie flies. The topics range from fishing for taimen in siberia to stalking roosterfish on the baja peninsula and everything in between. Hope you all enjoy as much as I did! http://www.askaboutflyfishing.com/ There's even a show done by Jim Mclennan on the Bow!
  9. I thought it might be fun to try and pursue some carp on the fly here in AB. Has anyone ever tried this? I have heard they put up a great fight but can be a challenge to catch. Any ideas on a potential location/time to take a shot at them?
  10. Those pictures are incredible! Really makes me wish my application for a job in Ne Plymouth had worked out. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
  11. Thanks for all the input on this topic. I think I'll try to get out and try both next spring then make my decision but right now I think I'm leaning towards a pontoon boat due to the cost/portability/flexibility. I checked out a lot of brands and saw a pretty cool one from cabela's....let's you cast from a standing position! http://www.cabelas.com/link-12/product/0029984318484a.shtml
  12. I bet that pike is sitting on bottom with a 20" rocky's tail hanging out of its mouth. How long does the spawning run for rockies last?
  13. I am toying with the idea of buying a driftboat or pontoon boat next year and would love to hear some suggestions. I am lucky enough to go for a few floats a year with friends and really enjoy the whole experience. The fishing, the social atmosphere and the shore lunch always make for a great day. I'd like to hear from other anglers why they like to float and what is there ideal boat (pontoon or drift)?
