I have had a request for a fly tying instructor in the Calgary area. They are looking for a passionate tyer who would be willing to host a weekly fly tying class. The classes are for people who have survived brain injuries as well as others with some special needs. Some of them are passionate about fly fishing and would love to learn more about it. If you are interested, contact me on the forums here and I will pass along some contact info. I think this would be a great way to give back to the community while doing something you already love.

http://flyangler.ca/index.php?option=com_c...6&Itemid=31 FACA: Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. So how do you like to tie your Clouser? Bob: Quick! Fast.. and Sparse! (Bob starts laughing!) FACA: Yeah, I've heard sparse before so... uhm.. Bob: You know sparse is probably a hard word to understand, (and then goes into an analogy of the weather) it's like one day it's raining light.. and then next day it's light too but it might be (raining) a little faster. Ahh.. sparse, if you can make a fly that isn't bulky and (when) you put it (a fly) in the water and you got light penetration through all the fibers and more movement then you do with one that's (tied) too heavy in silhouette.. that's sparse! Light refraction through it, showing movement, and also like with the Clouser, the speed of the fall, the drop of the fly, the more materials the slower it moves, the less the quicker it moves. FACA: What's one of the biggest mistakes you see people doing when they're tying a Clouser? Bob: I think, ahh.. (pauses in thought for a moment) what I can really remember of some of the flies that I see laying around in the bins for sale is that they're dressed too heavy. The eyes are too close to the eye of the hook. It doesn't affect the effectiveness of the fly per say. But what it does, it doesn't allow you to make a good solid unbreakable fly pattern. If you moved the eyes back like we were doing today (in the demo), and leave a little space between the back of the head and the eyes of the fly you can get epoxy in under there. When you epoxy that whole unit, it holds the whole fly together. FACA: Makes it a lot more durable! Bob: Yes, a lot more durable! Yes!

Looks like he made the video private. Don't forget that MissinTheBow wrote a great C & R article for the site here. http://flyfishcalgary.com/catch_and_release.php

I would set the eye back a bit to the 1/3 point of the hook. The dressing looks good otherwise for a display fly. I love the Chart / White Clouser. It's a classic

Looking good. Tieing this one with an orange head is also a killer fly. If you have flysource, you can use this file. rhdiawlbachdsm.fly

We all get busy, but if you have time to tie a fly for one of these contests it's a lot of fun. Hopefully you learn a thing or two about what you're tying too.

Well, I'm not backing down. After I spanked you in the Pin-up challenge, I don't think I have anything to worry about. Are you still sore from that one or what. ** Gloves dropping ** You call a team and I'll tie their fly.

Wow. That is insane. -
Nice job all. Good luck in the polls and pools

I think the natural looks better on a fly, but the Diamond dub or ice dub is more durable, and when it gets pulled out, it just adds to the look of the fly. I tie with both. They both work well for me. It's pretty hard to beat the natural colours in peacock, but the DD comes close.

It'll catch fish, now just work on tying them to catch fisherpeople. BTW, here is my first ever fly from years ago. Just keep at it and you'll be surprised just how fast things move along.

I hear you. I have a player who didn't lace up yet as well. We are having a trade around the midpoint that you can trade that goalie. -

Sweet, that just made my morning. He sleds where I fish. Maybe I'll head out to Scugog and then over to brent's place myself.

I once had a Dragonfly try to run off with one of my red humpies. It was amazing that he actually got all of the leader in the air. That's my fondest humpy memory.
-
Nice lovely fishy humps. You are really giving your vise a workout.
-
The Diamond Dub Bronze Olive is by far my favourite colour. I mix it with some CDC in the magic tool for some neat little caddis patterns.

Best of luck Lynn. Enjoy the legal high

Sorry, but you are just a bit late in getting in on the season. I'm sure that we'll have another pool next year. Week 6 update. Lots of moves this week for sure. We will have a trade coming up soon, so kep an eye out for any slackers on your team. -
Hey Sarah, glad to hear that the drugs kicked in. Here is a picture of the fly in questions. I think it would do pretty well on the bow, anyone tried it before?

5x Fluoro most of the time and 4x mono for dries. I might go with a thicker flouro if I tie on streamers.

Nice, but not good for stitching. No worries, we're working on some better things. Keep your eyes on the forum for updates.
