  1. i also wear my breathables year round...I echo the comments on layering as the most effective way to stay warm. Another sock you might consider is the Simms wading socks. I got a pair this fall and they have been absolutely fantastic. I have compared them head to head against some of my other MEC wool socks and they are definitely warmer for wading.
  2. Not sure what it could be then...I like the sound of that Hoyme Damper. It tends to get a little colder in my basement because the furnace room is not insulated...could be the thing. How much did it cost you to put in the damper?
  3. I find that as soon as I see any condensation building up on the windows I turn my humidifier control down to the appropriate level for the current ambient temp and the condensation disappears after a few cycles of the furnace. My house is 7 years old with similarly energy efficient windows. Did you shut the water off to your humidifier as well as the power? If that doesn't work then maybe your furnace cold air supply is not sufficient to introduce dry air from outside. Just some thoughts...
  4. I sent in a broken section of my Zero G 3 weight to Orvis and it took 2 months and $60 for them to send me a brand new rod and case...not sure how I feel. Definitely happy to get a new rod and now I have a spare aluminum case but the turnaround time is truly disappointing...
  5. I have had a good experience dealing with Vistek also. That is where I got my 1030 and a Nikon.
  6. Came across this article reading the NY Times this morning. Lets you know how relevant this cause is to our lives: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/25/1...rostate-cancer/
  7. I would use it primarily for streamer/nymph fishing on larger streams. It would be used on days where I was walking tight to the banks in search of new water. I think it would be nice to primarily DH the rod but it would be good to have the SH option for shorter periods of time. What do you use yours for headscan?
  8. Greetings all, I recently had an opportunity to cast the Beulah 7/8 Switch rod which I enjoyed immensely. I am interested in trying out the 5/6 and or 6/7 switch. Is anyone on the board casting one of these rods that might want to comment on how the lighter switch rods from Beulah cast?
  9. I got one this summer and have filled it twice...surprising how fast you can fill it...since then I have bought 6 more for gifts that I gave to my fishing buddies...love it!
  10. It appear that the barbless hook in the books diagram has a shaft of metal that angles down from mid shaft across the gape. This extension would effectively lock a fishes mouth on the hook once the hook was set. Not a true barbless hook in the modern sense but pretty good at keeping weeds off.
  11. As for me...yes I just ballpark the subject and fire away. I try to take several shots and hope they all turn out. One thing i noticed that is pretty amazing is that when I stick my 1030 underwater in regular movie mode to shoot underwater movies the amount of surface sound that goes a foot under water is amazing (ie conversations). Makes you wonder how much those trout actually hear in a quiet pool.
  12. I have the 1030 also and absolutely love it...my picture on the left came from it and I have many more great underwater shots that I have taken that I absolutely love...it has taken a beating in hot and cold weather from the tropics to the mountains and works fantastic.
  13. Absolutely...should be a great day. Lots of boats still on the water.
  14. Thanks all....I had a great time giving spey casting a well deserved first go. It was fantastic to try such a variety of fantastic rods...thanks to all the guys who generously allowed me to give it a go with their gear and the helpful and positive coaching to get me shooting line like I have never felt in my hands. I could not believe how far I was able to bomb out that heavy gear in my first go around. Spey rods are a lot of fun!! I think I am going to look into getting a 7/8 DH rod for when I need to get my gear out there and for some upcoming steelhead/salmon action...also I really enjoyed single handing one of the switch rods that made an appearance and if I can find one in the 4/5/6 range that shoots line like the 7 weight I tried today I will be all over it!! Again thanks guys for the great afternoon!!
  15. Do you welcome anyone that has never cast a spey rod but is interested?
  16. I actually ordered that in January and received it here in Calgary no problem. I am not sure what issues you are having but I know they do deliver it to Canada.
  17. Was at Linen's n Things at Brentwood with my g/f yesterday and saw this (photo attached)...reminded me of the thread so I took a photo with my phone. I think it is on sale for 20% off from $349. You could use it to convert to CD and then rip the cd's to mp3 on your pc.
  18. I would have to agree with Hawgstoppah on his assessment. Some of the rivers in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho do have more fish per mile but the average size is lower. Although the hogs and I do mean hogs exist in these streams (15 lb browns on the yellowstone). I was wade fishing a popular section of the Yellowstone one Saturday a few weeks ago and there were at least three driftboats within view of me at all times. I could not believe the boat traffic considering that it was the off season. As well there was a large number of other wading fisherpeople using the same access point. I think we are lucky to have world class fishing within easy access that when we are fishing it we might not even see another angler. For me solitude and peace is a big part of what I like about my fly fishing experiences and from that perspective I would put my vote in for Alberta (and some streams in BC).
  19. This year I have flown to the US and Belize carrying two - 4 piece rods and two reels in a back pack. The only problem I have run into is trying to get salt water pliers through as carry on. They made me check them. If you have 4 piece rods then I think you would be able to bundle them as suggested and get them on no problem.
  20. I bought mine at Wholesale Sports but I think The Fishin' Hole and others carry them.
  21. I have Outcast fins and they are ok. I quite honestly only ever use my oars when I have to row downstream against the wind. Other than that I only use the fins and the oars are hooked in the oar holders. I find that once you get used to fins only you will love the freedom of having both hands free to fish. Please note that this is only on the Bow river. In nastier water I only use the oars.
  22. Agreed...fantastic work!! and congratulations on the future fly fisher person!!
  23. 11 Lighters... 12 Minnow containers... infinite bottle caps and foam... Interesting why there are so many bottle caps and not as many bottles...do the caps come off and sink while the bottles carry on or vice versa? Perhaps we should have collected all of the shoes in one spot and tried to match them...just like my socks on laundry day. Thanks to all, it was great fun to be on the river giving a little back for all the great fishing days I have had!!
  24. That is too awesome for the right words...is your mouth wide open a word? Had to have a look around but you can buy their new video Raising The Ghost off their website...http://www.flyboysfishing.com/
