Cleaning Gear To Avoid Contamination
Dangus replied to Frenchie's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I guess debating things and exposing people to different information is just" fighting" on this site. I made the comment about the ducks and pike as I figured that would bring up discussion about acetic acid. Not sure what the ph of a ducks gut is, but probably lower than that of acetic acid (>2 as far as I recall. Our guts are 2ish I think). But ya, science is stupid. -

You can get a good look at a t bone by sticking your head up a bulls ass, but you'd be better off taking a butchers word for it. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fsbdev3_015746.pdf They took spores, dried them with or without UV, or didn't dry. Rehydrated dried samples and put the samples back into dishes with or without tubifex worms. Dried samples didn't cause any spores to be released. Thorough drying kills the spores. Interesting to note, I read one study that said the spore goes through the gut of a (mallard) duck and pike unaffected. -
You let me know when you're going and it's a date

You know that those long rods with big bottom corks and big hardy reels on them aren't always two-handers, right? Sooo...management. Pretty sure that includes the pincushions getting slammed every day In Smithers. One gear guy equates to 20 swingers easily. They don't need to be standing Fraser river style. Either way, it was obviously a poor ocean survival year because the Fraser salmon and Columbia steel/salmon runs are poor too. Scares me about the Thompson run this year. Seem pretty defensive. Must have a trip planned for this fall. You ready to fight yet?

That's not what I've heard. Guys fishing spoons, jigs etc. Looking at how many guys fish the bow with gear, I doubt it's any better than the vedder in winter. Maybe youre too Busy looking down at your slickshooter slipping through your fingers to notice them? How would limiting anglers stressing fish have no effect on the fishery? Talk about double standards. I guess steelhead are immune to everything you bitch about. It's almost like you think I'm suggesting putting less pressure on fish would make more fish magically appear this year! In case you forgot, swinging flies is a far lower percentage game than fishing gear, nymphing etc.

Pretty sad. I've put that trip off for years. Have always wanted to make it up there, but defected to US rivers because they were closer. Needs to turn into a lottery system, and/or eliminate dink bobbers shooting fish in a barrel. Too many people want to play.

Cleaning Gear To Avoid Contamination

Dude, it's been known to be in the state for over 30 years. Thus likely there even longer. You think people were putting their felt boots in quaternary ammonium in 1989? I don't think so. My point is clean it, dry it. Doesn't need to go into a bloody autoclave. -

Guys, thoroughly rinsing any bulk debris off and drying thoroughly for a number of days more than enough. No need to go out and buy fancy cleaners. If you are in a time pinch and can't wait for things to go bone dry, soak it in white vinegar for 20 minutes. I can't see that wrecking any gear. The only thing I'd soak is felt soles anyways. Lastly, pretty much whole west side of the US from the Canadian to the Mexican border has whirling disease. They've known it's been in Oregon since 1986. -

I dream of a home alone version of defence. Ha Installed a security system a week or so ago after having a couple attempts at break/ins of my garage in 2 years. We'll see if it does anything. At the very least, it's good for monitoring the house when the pets are home alone. -

Yeah I bring my fly boxes in from the garage even. I can't fathom losing all those flies. Spent far too many hours at the bench. A reel and rod can generally be replaced easily! -
Darn, the female would've likely got "spey'd"

Wasn't bashing it, that's just the first thing I thought of. I'd probably be a hard sell as I have no real reason to get out of my floating dock... and I can only imagine how well a fiifth fishing craft would go Over with the wife.

One concern Id have is That it looks like a pita to deal with fish going under the outrigger plus your anchors.

Isn't it amazing what happens when I Apply myself to something?

How did that big bald head of yours come up with this theory?

I think wishing for more moderate day time highs would have a stronger impact on river temps than Wishing for a natural disaster. But that's just me.

It's months ahead of "normal" max capacity and it's nearly there yet they're still only letting a piss trickle out of the dam. Would be nice if glenmore was a "real" angling opportunity. -
