lighter rods have a little more shock obsorbtion when fighting better fish so using lighter tipper on your 4wt would be the better optionl...... specially when dryfly fishing.. i love my 9ft 4wt.. long slender with some beef in the lower half but takes the blows from teh big fish on light line with ease...... as for fishing heavier tippet with oyur 4wt..... you will be fine either way..... but htere might be a time u need some lighter tippet so packing it cant hurt right?

BINGO! only real thing i can add is instread of splitshot ive bin using a variety of sinktips from intermediate, sink and fastsink........ most flyshops are carrying them now. use a loop too loop flyline-sinktip donnection and same with your mono or fluoro leader.. if your not getting down or your too deep u can switch em out in a heartbeat.....

try fishing some streamers too dude..stripping or swingin in em top too bottom on the run u intend too fish......... u seem too have the basics nailed down.. try working with a 3rd fly.the bwos will be hatching soon too and you might halfto spend some time wandering the flats looking for snouts with a bwo parachute size 18.....try swingin some emerger rigs too and wetfly's when the olives are hatchin..... might get some caddis happenin too later in the month (fingers crossed) pick up a mapbook of of alberta or southwestern alberta and check out some new access points.....

ive seen a ton of lines start too sink........ too much nymphin..... cutting and chopping mixed in with shitty care and drying maitnence........... good on SA for swappin u lines.... like others mentioned once u have cut and changed your buttsection use epoxy or uv knot sense too seal it off so water can get in while fishing. muscilin is also great for making line float when they start too sink... practically makes a sinktip float lmao jj....... apply before your day out.....

if u ever cut the end of your line its possible that water has seeped into the tip...... let hang too dry for a week ro so and give it a go....... might be a flaw too like headscan mentioned... is it all cracked? fishing any streamers with it?
