  1. Country pleasures only has a nine weight left I think. It's been discontinued. I considered buying this rod but decided against it. You may want to check out the Orvis Access, it's also a very light rod and cheaper than the Hydros or Helios at only around $350. I haven't casted it, but I know CP has it and I've heard from a couple of guys that it casts pretty well (tip-flex version)
  2. Wow, those are some great flies! I especially like the polar shrimp, looks similar the fly that my brother-in-law uses for sea run cutts
  3. I could be wrong on this, but pike rarely nip the tail they usually go for the head Very nice flies!
  4. I really like it, good tie!
  5. It's a pretty sensitive bull trout population in the Elbow and tribs. Also, the pilot project is working to reduce the number of brookies so why mess with a good thing?
  6. Not 100% sure, but I believe its because most people can't distinguish between juvenile brookies and bulls, so they're afraid of people harvesting the wrong fish? Instead of having a general bounty on them, they'd prefer to give permission to those who can pass an ID test to go and thin out the population of brookies.
  7. beads also get it to sink head first like a diving boatman
  8. I agree. And with the same ingredients plus some z-lon you could tie some x-caddis, which work as good or better than elk hair caddis and are super quick ties. You could also tie cdc patterns in place of patterns that use hackle.
  9. I plan on going out with garbage bags to collect all the *hit people left behind on the banks of my favourite run. I hope others do too. It keeps getting worse and worse. Eight years ago I started and I've never seen so much trash and empties left behind. Also vener seen any titties on the river except for the male kind, so lose-lose for me.
  10. I was also wondering about this. A dude at MEC told me that if it isn't loaded and ready to go it isn't worth carrying. Kinda nervous carrying it loaded... even upside down and with the safety on. I bought some a while ago but never carry it since I carry spray and almost never fish bear country alone.
  11. Those fluctuations are shitty and are mostly the result of the Transalta situation. Since early July, every storm results in a huge spike and prolonged dirtying of the water. Thankfully we've actually had a pretty decent summer with only sporadic rainstorms. I think this could have gotten much worse.
  12. I saw an otter last year on the Bow, downstream from Poilice.
  13. I was surprised at the fly tying selection at the Fishin Hole, got some hard to find material there this winter. Well-stocked.
  14. Haven't had much of an issue this yeara, and I fish pretty much everyday. I've had my days where I almost lose my *hit, everybody does. I try not to be confrontational, usually a heads up to the guy that you need some room is enough to send the message. If some guy approaches and is friendly and wants to fish the same run or whatever, I'm always good with that. But, I've had some nasty, nasty exchanges in the past and I like to think I've matured a bit and won't have anymore of those issues. I also pick my spots and times wisely so I don't put myself in a position where I'll get frustrated. Ah well, they make for good stories when things get interesting.
  15. If I had four weeks off I'd fish my way south through West Yellowstone and back up again.
  16. sorry to hear about your rod being stolen, if you need a loaner, I have an older original series TFO 9' 6wt 2piece you can borrow. Or you can buy it with the carrying case for $60
  17. Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Great to see the skwalas are out!
  18. The big reward is having these guys busted and doing your part to protect what has given you so much. That being said a reward definately helps. I called in a couple of poachers on the NW section four or five years ago. Turns out these guys were repeat offenders and were clearly busted with multiple counts, so I pretty much found out that day I was getting a reward. I was just happy that I had put a stop to a couple more poachers on my home waters. I have called the RAP line more times than I could count, most the time I never heard what happened or the CO said the guys were gone when he got there. The more times you call the better though, and maybe eventually you'll get a $300 reward for it. I got a new fly rod and they probably got thousands in fines, which in my mind was the ultimate F-you to those pricks
  19. I picked mine up at Wholesale. I like how strong it is but how little bulk you build up with the 50 denier. I use it on sparkle duns and comparaduns, makes a nice think body and binds the deer hair down really well
