The body is pretty similar to a Goddard caddis. Maybe just follow those instructions for spinning the deer hair, then tie in the wing instead of hackle at the front?

That's it, I'm gonna start hiding freakin bananas in other guys boats when they're not looking. They'll never suspect it's the banana lol PS Is a banana in the waders ok?

Customer Service Out The Window?
tgo replied to robert's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I think that's what mnm meant, the "hot" pink is more expensive than the dull, even though they are both Ultra Wire. I had to pay more for the fl. chartreuse than the reg. chartreause and was a bit confused too. -
Customer Service Out The Window?
tgo replied to robert's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Customer service is much better in the smaller shop. I'll pay extra cash for better service because I'd rather buy from somebody who is helpful. Usually I now what I need, but it's good to know there are knowledgable staff who can offer advice on alternative fly materials or tricks on the vice, or who actually know a little about the product they are selling. Wholesale is pretty good too, there's a couple of really good dudes working in there. Bass Pro's fly department is a joke. -
Guess What She Packed Home
tgo replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I used to work for Canada Post and we sent a flier out telling everybody how the corporation was going green. Meanwhile, the bitch who runs the company pushes "admail" (or junk mail if you hate the stuff) as the future of Canada Post. I agree that mass consumerism and excessive packaging are probably our biggest problem, but good luck changing that anytime soon. The global economy runs on waste. Everything is disposable, even cell phones. You have to start somewhere and I think plastic bottles and bags are a good start. -
I tied a few of these up the other day. These ones have rubber but I also decided to tie a bunch more using stretch floss instead. I think I like the stretch floss better. Pat's Rubberlegs

What To Expect From A Guided Experience
tgo replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Oh and I usually tip around 70-$80 for a trip that cost, but it depends on the experience and whether the guide tried hard to get me to the fish. -

What To Expect From A Guided Experience
tgo replied to jasonvilly's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I didn't mean to imply you shouldn't go on a guided trip if you can't cast x distance, but I just wanted you to know what to expect and you can decide to spend your money based on that. If money is tight it may be worth do a little fishing around coral heads and other structure with decievers and clousers. -

I don't think you need to be an expert caster, but you do need more skill than what it takes to nymph the Bow. A buddy's brother just got back from Ascension Bay and he wasn't that experienced and only landed one bone. But he can't cast past 25 feet. There are times he needed a 40 ft cast at least. Then there's the wind. What line weight is the rod? -

I tie in the antennae biots cause they look good to me, but I would keep fishing with a chewed stonefly anyway cause it would probably work even better!

Do We Need Nutrient Replacement In Some Foothills Streams?
tgo replied to a topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Intersting topic, I am not in favor of artificially adding fertilizers to the water...although I do understand the frustration with the huge lack of nutrients in the upper Elbow River and other similar streams. I guess the only thing I can add is that this summer I had a chat with a CO in BC. He asked how the fishing had been for my buddy and I and I told him we had had some good fishing on a creek in the area. I mentioned how we were amazed how productive the stream was and how thick the insect life was when we overturned rocks (despite being a high elevation stream). He mentioned that the productivity of this stream was the result of both strict fishing regs and a very high biomass. He said the biomass was made possible by the mining operations in the upper reaches of many of the tributaries. Apparently the explosives contain high levels of nitrigen that eventually makes its way into the system. -

I'd like to be entered for the evening draw. Thanks -
cool, I think I'll tie some of those up for my next outing. I like the idea of keeping the front chenille shorter. Thanks for sharing!

I picked up on a whole bunch of tungsten beads from Pieroway for .10 cents a piece -
it's whatever you want it to be, but I'd say it's a little deeper than a sport.

Felt Boots To Be Banned In Montana
tgo replied to Harps's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Yeah, the didymo in my favourite fishing holes is much worse than the didymo I have found downstream. I am not sure why the didymo has not made it way downstream into the lower Bow (or has it?), but I'm sure glad it hasn't. I found it was particularly bad this year, especially during that week or two of floating weeds in the fall. The river was absolutely unfishable in the NW for a few days because it would coat your leader, tippet, fly, etc. on every cast! It is a major reason why I don't bother nymphing even at the best of times and prefer to focus on the hatches or toss streamers.
