  1. I agree, in fact I like the longer rod to get the line OVER the tress and bushes along shore during my back cast.
  2. Based on the weather predictions I've seen, June through August is supposed to be hotter and drier than average.
  3. Wow, you guys are tying some nice streamers. Those zoo cougars are unreal. I love this fly, it kicks brown trout ass JJ Special
  4. I have backroads mapbook for my gps and I like it, but haven't really tried much else. The gps version of backroads has all the detail and more compared to the hardcopy version, including hiking, biking, horseback trails, campgrounds, topographic, very tiny streams and more. It's expensive though, especially considering you can download the free topographic maps online.
  5. Too bad this thread went to *hit, I would have actually liked to see if people had experience doing this kind of work
  6. Reminds me of my winters in Swift Current...bleak at best.
  7. The body is pretty similar to a Goddard caddis. Maybe just follow those instructions for spinning the deer hair, then tie in the wing instead of hackle at the front?
  8. That's it, I'm gonna start hiding freakin bananas in other guys boats when they're not looking. They'll never suspect it's the banana lol PS Is a banana in the waders ok?
  9. I think that's what mnm meant, the "hot" pink is more expensive than the dull, even though they are both Ultra Wire. I had to pay more for the fl. chartreuse than the reg. chartreause and was a bit confused too.
  10. Customer service is much better in the smaller shop. I'll pay extra cash for better service because I'd rather buy from somebody who is helpful. Usually I now what I need, but it's good to know there are knowledgable staff who can offer advice on alternative fly materials or tricks on the vice, or who actually know a little about the product they are selling. Wholesale is pretty good too, there's a couple of really good dudes working in there. Bass Pro's fly department is a joke.
  11. I used to work for Canada Post and we sent a flier out telling everybody how the corporation was going green. Meanwhile, the bitch who runs the company pushes "admail" (or junk mail if you hate the stuff) as the future of Canada Post. I agree that mass consumerism and excessive packaging are probably our biggest problem, but good luck changing that anytime soon. The global economy runs on waste. Everything is disposable, even cell phones. You have to start somewhere and I think plastic bottles and bags are a good start.
  12. I tied a few of these up the other day. These ones have rubber but I also decided to tie a bunch more using stretch floss instead. I think I like the stretch floss better. Pat's Rubberlegs
  13. Oh and I usually tip around 70-$80 for a trip that cost, but it depends on the experience and whether the guide tried hard to get me to the fish.
  14. I didn't mean to imply you shouldn't go on a guided trip if you can't cast x distance, but I just wanted you to know what to expect and you can decide to spend your money based on that. If money is tight it may be worth do a little fishing around coral heads and other structure with decievers and clousers.
  15. I don't think you need to be an expert caster, but you do need more skill than what it takes to nymph the Bow. A buddy's brother just got back from Ascension Bay and he wasn't that experienced and only landed one bone. But he can't cast past 25 feet. There are times he needed a 40 ft cast at least. Then there's the wind. What line weight is the rod?
  16. Very nice extended body green dake Garhan
  17. Great flies everybody! Thinskin Stones... Woven Wire Weevils Foam Beetles Putenbaugh Foam Cadiis
  18. I tie in the antennae biots cause they look good to me, but I would keep fishing with a chewed stonefly anyway cause it would probably work even better!
  19. Wired stones... Yellow Brown Black
  20. Intersting topic, I am not in favor of artificially adding fertilizers to the water...although I do understand the frustration with the huge lack of nutrients in the upper Elbow River and other similar streams. I guess the only thing I can add is that this summer I had a chat with a CO in BC. He asked how the fishing had been for my buddy and I and I told him we had had some good fishing on a creek in the area. I mentioned how we were amazed how productive the stream was and how thick the insect life was when we overturned rocks (despite being a high elevation stream). He mentioned that the productivity of this stream was the result of both strict fishing regs and a very high biomass. He said the biomass was made possible by the mining operations in the upper reaches of many of the tributaries. Apparently the explosives contain high levels of nitrigen that eventually makes its way into the system.
  21. I'd like to be entered for the evening draw. Thanks
