It might be do to the mild winter or dry spring. I'm up to half a dozen ticks this year and it is only early May. I didn't find any last year. Most are coming from the Kootenay region. Today I found one at the base of my skull. So when you get home have the spouse play find the little vampire ;-) Has anyone else noticed the increase or do I just have to change my deodorant ?

I'm a little worried. I saw what the NDP did to the shipping and forestry industries in northwestern Ontario. They are just starting to get on there feet. Two decades later. -

I have a leather Lazy Boy and must say that when my back is acting up. I won't go near it. It does not support the lower lumbar very well. -

Nachako replied to scel's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
? Did I make any adjustments for fishing . That's why I build them. But really no I am pretty much a traditionist . A good yoke . I like to portage up to a km or two. Also I find wind to be a b...ch in boat control while trying to cast unless you are anchored . Even a little bit of wind . Hope this helps Paul -
Pfd: What To Use For Kayak Fly Fishing?
Nachako replied to scel's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I can't say I have done any kayak FF . I do spend a lot of time FF in a solo canoe and find myself trolling a lot or anchored because you will be needing your hands to control the boat. So I guess what I'm saying is think about what kind of rod holder setup you want and storage . -

Gear Hauling - Vest/backpack/chestpack/?
Nachako replied to northfork's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Lornce you might be old school but I'm cheap. I've been using the same setup as Angler for decades An old large North face fanny pack with a couple of bottle holders. It keeps everything together and is weightless on the hips. The old saying goes the bigger the bag the more crap your going the put in it. 2 cents -
Barry Mitchell Has Passed Away
Nachako replied to DonAndersen's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I am another that never met Barry personally. But many years ago I was teaching my self to fly fish in Lake Louise. The only mentor I had was the Alberta Fishing Report ( which I looked forward to every year ) and Barry's stories. So how do you say thanks ? -

I have to agree with cardinalfan. I attended the calgary show 10+ yrs ago ( I forget where it was held ) But there was lots of people hocking there wares down stairs. Upstairs there was some seminars and films that I benefited from . So I decided to return this year and payed my $15 actually $30 I payed for my friend. ( glad I didn't make him pay )I was in and out of there in less than an hour. What did I get for my $30 entry into a draw. See you in another 10 maybe. -

If you have a teenager give them the Gopro . Watch the crazy s..t they will film them selves doing with it. Just make sure your medical insurance is payed up. ( talking from experience ) -
A couple of years ago I was fishing the Alexandra river system about an hour up highway 93 North. Well after spending the afternoon fishing up river I turned around and started down. At about the 2km mark from my truck I notice fresh cougar prints over top of my muddy boot prints. This went on for almost a km. Talk about send a chill down your spine. All you seem to think about is " remembering your parents house cat hunting that bird on the front lawn and the bird had no idea the cat was there " I think what saved me was just after the tracks began I ran into my fishing partner and the cat decided not mess with two of us. So I if you hear someone yelling here kitty kitty instead hey bear in the middle of nowhere its me.

X2When your starting out it is almost like tying a new fly ( I never like the first couple ) It takes time and is a learned craft so take it slow and enjoy. Every new Rod will probably be better than the last.

Did you try the Newfie approach ( see jokes )

Four buddies go salmon fishing. One of them was a Newfie. After an hour, the following conversation took place. First guy: " You have no idea what I had to do to be able to come out fishing this weekend. I had to promise my wife that I will paint every room in the house next weekend." Second guy: " that's nothing, I had to promise my wife that I will build her a new deck for the pool." Third guy: " Man, you both have it easy! I had to promise my wife that I will remodel the kitchen for her." They continue to fish when they realized that the Newfie has not said a word. So they asked him. "You haven't said anything about what you had to do to be able to come fishing this weekend. " What's the deal?" Newfie: " I just set my alarm for 5:30 am. When it went off, I shut off my alarm, gave the missus a nudge and said, " Fishing or Sex" and she said, " Wear a Sweater."

Not For Young Eyes... Progressives Or Bi-Focals
Nachako replied to jgib01's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Everyone is different. I have 30/20 and can pick goats off a mountain side. But don't put a newspaper in front of me. So it's Bi-Focals . Little tip Sun Cloud make some decent sunglasses with a Bi-Focal built in for $75 which are a bonus when switching flies. -
Out of respect I have to give cudos to my Regal vice . With over 3000 flies tied and its simplicity it just won't die . Also I don't have the eyeballs to tye anything smaller that an size 18 . They come in different price ranges depending on what you want to spend. My 2 cents

I was wandering how many use a fishing log and which one. I have been using MyDailyfishinglog for the last few years . You just have to remember to code your special spots of course because it is online and keep a hard copy .

Curious About Ffc Members
Nachako replied to murray's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Growing up on the Northwestern shores of Lake Superior . Nobody went to Miami or Mexico for holidays they loaded up the boat and rods or the rifles and headed in to the bush. 1986 after standing a couple days on the side of the road with a sign that said " going no where fast " I ended up in the Canadian Rockies . And just uped it a notch. Bought my first fly rod in the early 90's for a $100 . After spending an evening picking off cutties in my new belly boat that my girlfriend bought me ( you have to marry a girl like that ) Now FF fills half of my garage . Turn this 50 yr old into the new 40 . Helps create a lifestyle that keeps most men awake at night.
