  1. It is suppose to be 29 degrees here tomorrow a buddy and I are heading that way. With our canoes ( solo ) at 8 am if your interested and think you can keep up.
  2. Stay on the left hand side. Don't get caught in any of the braided streams. We all had to do it a first time. The river is in really good shape know.
  3. Thanks Nick I just got back. There was some snow just above Northover tarns but was easily negotiated. Other than that I couldn't have asked for better weather or visibility. Also there was lots of rises at Three Island Paul
  4. There is a local bus called the Roam bus that runs between the 2 every couple of hours. The river is looking in real good shape. Planning on doing a paddle myself. Paul
  5. I am planning on taking a group up and over Northover Ridge at the beginning of August. Has anyone been up to - Aster lake - Three Island lake and looked up or been scrambling around there at the 2800 meter mark. I know that around the Lake Louise area the snow has just left the 2800 meter mark. I have read a few reports that say the snow load remains there late. There in nothing I hate more than to post hole through knee deep mush. Any info would help so I may plan a plan B. Thank Paul
  6. Let the rod do the work . The fish must win sometimes other wise it wouldn't be a sport.
  7. Yum
  8. Thanks but I checked them all. It's a pretty specific strap.
  9. Though I would NEVER buy another one. If your active the watch strap lasts only about a year and cost $50+ . That I was buying them 2 at a time. Now it seems that they stopped making them . Be for warned all Suunto watches are set up for the same scam. Anyone know a after market solution or any old stock so I don't have to toss this $400 watch. not impressed Paul
  10. Well lesson learned I tryed to buy some bamboo blank from a place called Anglers Roost Big mistake. Not only did they misrepresent the weight of the blanks they sold me. But after checking the taper with a micrometer they are not even the taper of the rod they advertised. There response ( send it back ) this whole kibocal going to cost me about $80 in shipping and duties Lesson learned Again Don thanks for your help in this Paul Ps I'm kinda curious on what this would turn out to be ? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/The-Waara-Taper-12-ft-3-piece-5-6-wt-Flamed-Bamboo-Blank-with-2-tips-/302271579366?hash=item4660ca44e6:g:H7YAAOSwnbZYEnOg
  11. Don Tried to send a pm no luck so here I go I got a flamed 3/2 9' blank from a place call The Anglers Roost out of NY It's probably a Chinese import ( $180 US ) done with a Payne 400 taper Looks good but one never know until there is a line attached. Paul
  12. Thanks gentleman that should work for the spacing. I should have mentioned that this Is a new blank. Don I like that shadow on restoration projects no need to measure. But need to increase the guide size for the new lines. I was thinking of going with 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 4 then 6. & 10 mm stripper Paul
  13. My old computer crashed and in my favourites I had a chart saved Now looking I can't seem to find one on google. Would any one have on saved and could send me a link Thanks Paul

    New Hobby

The steam bending looks incredible. What wood are you using for the hoops and for how long. The reason I ask is I'm trying to laminate 1/4" strips of black walnut for snowshoes. I think I see my next hobby. Thanks Paul
  16. It's called Darwinism, sometimes we need to thin out the heard a little. But with that said I get you Peter it's some of my fiends that have wives and kids that have to go get them. Dame it
  17. Johnson lake was pretty much drained after the big flood. So your right Peter it will not take much. I think that it is a must. They have to drain it if they want to keep w/d out of minniwanka and two jack. Tourists are not going to clean there canoes or paddle boards before transferring them from one lake to another.
  18. I have spent a lot of tine snowshoeing around the great divide road the past couple of weeks I am seeing lots and lots of snowshoe hare and pine Martin tracks. I even came across mountain lion track a week ago. Though I haven't been around the pipestone could you have been there after a fresh snow fall???
  19. X2 I had one of these sets at one time and turned it into a 3 tip casting rod. The ferrules are not that sturdy also and look at the glue lines between the strips
  20. Thanks Peter , I've been looking hard at this course but if I'm going to do it . I want to do the whole thing .I can't seem to find a price. Any ideas. Paul
  21. As much as I hate to say it . After all the testing. If it is contained there " Yes nuke it " But as one of the many locals that start there float tube and canoe season in Johnson lake . I'm more concerned on how far has it already spread. Would be quite surprised if it is only contained to that water shed.
  22. I have a pair of suncloud sunglasses $75 in my fishing bag that have a bi-focal in them they work great. I just switch my regular sunglasses for these before I get on the water.
  23. Two bears in the last two days. It's all about the berries. Once I got a good distance away and tthey thought I wasn't a threat they payed me no never mine and kept working there way down the berry patch. So make sure you get noticed out there folks Paul
