  1. Watch out for grizzled old cowboys circling like vultures for free beer!!
  2. Haha!!! The "Cutty Hut" is no big deal. It's all about the people!!
  3. Last year was definitely a strange year for the "Cutty Streams" I regularly fish. After the high water/flooding, many changed their course and new runs, pools were made. Yes, it was fun "rediscovering" the new holes etc. Some of the rivers got better and some others didn't fish as well as other years. So now, a year later what can we expect? Last year there were very few hatches it seemed. I didn't see the usual Drakes, PMD or Caddis hatches that I usually would see. Therefore, there were a lot fewer rising fish, which is what I love about cutthroat fishing.? As the new season approaches does anybody have any input on what we may expect regarding bug life? Either from experience or knowledge? I'd be interested... Al
  4. I lose more golf balls than flies.......fishing it is!!
  5. I've never fished the Bow.....I've heard it's pretty good and close!! Honestly.....I haven't!! I'm more of a camping/fishing guy than a fishing guy.
  6. Buy a beater trailer and park it for the season in SW Alberta........
  7. Please forgive me, I appreciate the comments big time but it is difficult for me to know who you all are from your "avatar" name (except for Taco!) I am not sure if we have met before or not. If you could PM me with your real name and if and where we have met I could put a face to you all. If we haven't met I look forward to it, You know where I will be!!
  8. Ya...I'm glad Alberta Parks found a solution to the problem, instead of sticking to the Parks Act and limiting stays to 16 days.. At least it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully the seasonal campers will comply with the regulations and there are no problems or complaints. Moving the trailer every few weeks was a huge pain. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody.
  9. They are going to allow seasonal campers at selected sites at Dutch Creek. There website hasn't set it up yet.
  10. A lot of you are familiar with the "Cutty Hut". It is a trailer that I have had situated at Racehorse Creek Provincial Recreation Area seasonally for the last 4 years. Many of the forum members have stayed there and many have dropped in. In the last three years Alberta Parks have attempted to enforce the 16 day maximum stay and up until last year they turned a blind eye and let me stay there for the season. Last season Alberta Parks enforced the maximum stay and I had to move out for 24 hours every 16 days. I wrote a letter to Alberta Parks and explained my personal situation and I got a quick reply. The Alberta Parks representative sent me an awesome letter and we also discussed the situation amicably on the phone. Alberta Parks is competing directly with random campers. There is also a maximum stay of 14 days for random campers but they are under the jurisdiction of Sustainable Resources (Forestry) and they don't have the manpower to enforce this regulation so they set up seasonally...for free! This year Alberta Parks have set aside 15 campsites at Dutch Creek Provincial Recreation Area for "Seasonal" camping. I appreciate the fact that they have agreed to do this and it has opened the door for seasonal camping in Provincial Recreation areas. They will have regulations for seasonal campers , such as no permanent structures and proper disposal of grey water etc. and if all goes well they will open up seasonal campsites at other PRA's ie. Racehorse Creek in the future. The "Cutty Hut" will now be moving up the road to Dutch Creek for the upcoming season. I have an open invitation to you all to stop by. Last year I met a bunch of you and it was awesome. You are welcome at my fire....anytime!! You are all welcome to join my Facebook group "Friends of the Cutty Hut" Al Hunter
  11. Haha!! It's a "Hut" not a "shack" and Sean 84...it did find you!!
  12. If you are interested in venturing to some mountain streams for cutthroat, SW of Calgary, let me know.
  13. I've had great success, (pre-flood that is) on the Cutty streams with a Parachute Caddis. I'm not sure if it's just me but I slay cutty's with that fly. Drives my friends crazy!! It's one of those flies that work, that you always forget you have!!
  14. I work with a guy that has a saltwater tank with coral etc. Lost it all due to power outage during flood. Yes....It is expensive!!
  15. Friendly service...good advice..... get's my return business, but sometimes we are suckers for punishment. Ha!
  16. Good deal on guideline glasses.....I am checking to see if they carry the bifocal. I own a pair and they are awesome....and if you can get them for $20...even better!!
  17. I'm on my third pair of Reddington's. I paid for one pair, the other two pairs were replacements. Having said that, they seem to have improved the quality and they are more durable. Obviously they have a good warranty.
  18. I'm more of a "Hunter" than all of you!!!!! It's my last name!! It actually isn't "Botangles"!!!
  19. This is a good forum re: all things BBQ...I'm sure if you posted the same question here you would get some answers. http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/index.php?sid=1cfcc09417f927609c32d263d88b01ea
  20. I bought a Weber Kettle Grill this year for the "Cutty Hut"...so much fun. I found a website specific to the Weber Grill. It has a forum that gives me tons of advice. Might be one for the Green Egg too...Enjoy!!
  21. I have the utmost respect for you....a lot of fly fishermen fish this area with lighter weight rods (#4 >) and lighter tippets especially in the fall. We are fishing for cutty's and obviously you and your friends are not targeted....it was a surprise to have you drop by. I hope you had a good spawn and the Hidden Creek damage doesn't jeopardize your future in the area. Keep on doing what you are doing!!
