Nope, no problems with the Elixir line coiling today. Had some fun learning the skagit style, and even more overheading the line and shooting 20 ft out without any practice. Will be a fun rod on the Lower lake and bull trout streams.

They were some pretty dumb ones, walked up and started fishing about 50 or 60 ft downstream of Toolman, with 3 more of us there.

Good to hear you're enjoying the new rod! I'm jealous, as my new switch is waiting for me at the depot when I get back from ice fishing in Fort St John. I did find on the Beulah website that the ideal total leader length is 1.5 times the rod length with the elixir lines, so experiment a bit.

You could speycast with it, but it's limited to lighter lines as it's not designed with a spey line in mind. Word on speypages is that TFO is testing different blanks for some new switch rods, but no word on a release date. There is a 5wt 11' spey rod listed on their site for $250, so it could be in that price range.

Alot of the casts I found in the DVD's were for special situations, such as the casts specifically developed for skagit casting, or when you need to pull a sink tip out of the river first. I particularly enjoyed the section on using the single hand rod to combine different casts when you have multiple instructions, some of the tips will be very useful.

That would be great for czech nymping the Livingstone without having to bother to get into the canyon!

In case you need to fish in areas with house values in excess of $3,000,000! I got a $150 to spend at Bass Pro Shops (I guess they sell the cards up here somewhere), so I've got some browsing to do, hopefully for some wider wading or hiking boots. Toolman, will you actually be able to fit all of your spey rods into your car now or are you going to buy a 16' trailer?
