  1. Since I saw the article on speypages (sorry, on a slow connection and I can't find the link), I've had good success welding polyurethane coated lines (not so much with the PVC). With the thicker spey lines I use a smaller diameter PU coated line and melt it all together to form the loop - for the running line end I double the line up, and add a third length in the shrink tube. For my nymphing setup I have a midspey line on the Deer Creek - it's a bit heavy and probably not as sensitive as I need, but works well when you need to get a three nymph rig out. I bought a scandi head for it, but I've only had a couple hours to cast it, and I'm thinking I need to cut it down a tad (or get better at casting it).
  2. How the hell are you going to get a bead over Dave's head?
  3. Posts: 1 Trap? Can't be! Who has the can of troll repellent?
  4. I've never had a problem casting heavy rigs with the double spey either, as you can do the same tricks as overhead casting to open up the loop a bit more. For shorter distances, you can also just use the water tension to load the rod and fling them upstream.
  5. Happy birthday!
  6. Something says '50's Army Style' to me. I had to laugh at the picture, after hearing tales of rods snapping because the angler grabs the rod above the handle (and is high sticking).
  7. The 5wt and up xperience rods are listed as fast instead of medium fast, so it may make a difference, but try em all out sometime (not with that damn wind today, as you'll probably hook on to a passing car!).
  8. I only tried an XPerience in the three weight, and it was too soft for my liking, however the eastfork is a fast action rod meant for distance and bigger flies, with a similar action to the Fli, but I found I could get more distance and shoot farther with the eastfork (testing 10' rods though, 9' may be different).
  9. If anybody has a St Croix 7 wt kicking around, bring it along.
  10. G Loomis Eastfork - I find it cast better for me than the FLi. You can test out many of these rods at fishtales.
  11. You could try overheading with a lighter line, but if you're down at Police Outpost with a strong wind, rollcasting is the way to go.
  12. I have the Deer Creek, and for what I use it for its great - makes a good nymphing rod with the delta spey, and would probably be good for skating dries around, though I didn't get to do too much of that this year. People on the sp board say they do have different types of actions - the DC is probably a bit softer and you may want something a bit faster for scandi work (though others more experienced with that type of casting can make more accurate comments on that). The line I have does ok with intermediate poly sink tips, but if you're looking to do T-8 or 14 type work a heavier rod would work better. All of my testing of rods comes from getting out with the members here and trying out different rods when Gord or Brian and Francois came through, not through the shops.
  13. Great pics as always!
  14. I moved to a condo because I knew it would be too warm to ice up the front steps this year.
  15. August 2009 according to this story: http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/2008/05/22/5642006.html
  16. by causing hurricanes
  17. Had it on my moderate-fast action 5 wt...didn't use it too much but I liked it for shooting and roll casting. Harps, did you check if there was a warranty on the line? If not, complain to SA anyways, they might just give you a new one.
  18. Tons of drinking straws and styrofoam in the drift wood piles, along with tons of lighters and a dozen empty packs of rum and wine dipped cigars, all in one spot. And Carl and I could probably start a used shoe store with what we found. Thankfully, no bodies again this year!
  19. Pellet gun wars were the best! One time a ranger caught me and a few buddies out in the middle of the bush, dressed head to toe in hockey gear and safety glasses (thinking they would actually stop a pellet), and since he didn't know what he could charge us with, he just let us go with a warning. Getting shot in the back of the head really does hurt, though.
  20. Excellent work, and good to hear they got out there in time..the couple times I've called in the poachers were gone before a CO could show up. Considering how much money the Bow can generate economically, there should be at least someone closer than Drumheller to respond to calls.
  21. You can get barbless hooks themselves anywhere, although the selection is limited, but any of the smaller shops around town will have some barbless flies.
  22. They do sell em that way, but it is up to the tier to use em, so check out stores with locally tied flies; With customers in different places with different rules, the bigger companies or tiers who ship flies everywhere just go with the barbed hooks and let the angler sort it out.
  23. They still have to put you on their do not call list if you tell them to (lasts 3 years).
