  1. Nice, Congrats.
  2. I tried it, I premade a setup in front of the TV one night so it was ready to go. I dont remember it helping catch anymore, not sure if it was worth the effort, but I'm going to try it once more again from the boat, where you can get a longer drift.
  3. I also want to say that the T15, mybe better in high water, because it sinks @ 10ips, so I will be going to something like a type 3 in lower flows.
  4. I have the same rod & sounds like pretty much the same setup, with a 450 gr. Rio Skagit Flight Line & sink tip. For streamers I bought an 18' T15 sink tip from Fish Tales & cut that up into a 10', 5' & 3' sections. I mostly use the 10' witch is tough thing to cast a first but once you get on to it you can really get some line out, & it sinks to the bottom where the fish are. I also only use about 42" of leader of 12lb & 8lb Maxima. I use all the usual streamers, but not heavily weighted, maybe a conehead. I try to cast straight across from where I stand & then let it swing, & with the T-15 Sink Tip I find it get s down fast & put the streamers in the fish's depth. Then strip it back up where at the point where I sterted the cast as far as how much running line is hanging out of the rod. Now I just started the foray into spey casting as you have, but I have gotten professional lessons, read a lot, talked to fellows on this board & other boards, & bought DVD's. Some days the casts can shoot out into the river, next cast not so much, but what I find the best is the practice, & practice.
  5. I have a Simms & love it, but surfing the net the other day I found a deal on a Cloudveil but not my size. The Triutshop in Craig had a size small for $261.00 troutshop.com, & close to Lethbridge.
  6. Try Bow River Shuttles's website bowrivershuttles.com. Not sure if they list their rental rates but there info.
  7. Hey, I'm over it, in fact it was never an issue, I gladly paid, if it was that much of problem for me I wouldnt have. I thought it might be intersting to some people who might want to know what it costs to fish in BC. The only thing that bothers me as a Canadian it is the same to fish in the US as it is does in BC.
  8. I'm the same Belly Boat hangs on a nail in an insulated garage fully insulated, & the Pontoon gets dissasembled but only because of the lack of storage space otherwise it would get stored the same way.
  9. I knew what I was going to have to pay, & I payed it because I wanted to fish the Elk, to try it & experience it, & like I said I have to drive by it & look at it, & not fish it would be to much, but if it had been just the money I would rather have paid $70 US and fished in Montana for a season with no daily river fee, where I truly am a non resident.
  10. With my job, I'm going to be travelling to BC past the Elk once a month and wont be able to stand driving past the Elk without stopping, so I bought a license. The cost was $55 and every time I want to stop another $20.
  11. The smaller they are the more I carry, because the thinner tippet, but only in the ones I have the most confidence with. If they are new fly to me, and just experimenting with then 3-4.
  12. I got plastic boxes from Gregg Distributors, plastic, 24 compartments, 2"x2" with a curved bottom for easy hook retreval. I got 5 which I divide up into like hooks, streamers, nymphs, etc. Price was right also.
  13. Nice, but maybe should be called Belly Boat Ballet. Thanks
  14. I'm enjoying the crap out this.
  15. I saw that on the news last night, so I was windering also if anyone has taken a drift boat thru yet? The water looks ok, but I saw some gates that I was unsure if you need to go thru or around. Also they dont want you using quite yet, but just wondering for some day in the future. I opens a whole new stretch of river.
  16. 24" Rainbow that broke my rod, have a old style print picture, no digital. Gosh been a long time, I better go fishing.
  17. Very Nice, Thank Yoy
  18. Finally did it, got my first fish with my spey rod & what a first, 20" Brown on a Bead Head Black Rabbit Strip Leach. The long rod is quite a bit different when fight a fish, seemed like a easier fight than on a single hand rod, and getting a hold of the fish was interesting also. I used the method of turning the drag down on the reel and feeding line and stepping towards the fish, grabbing the line and hand pulling him in. No pics, just in my memory.
  19. Congrats, I havent got my first on the Spey yet, but inspired. Thanks
  20. Try the John Deere dealer. They sell a 1650 watts model. They use to have 2 models, @ 1700 & 1100. If they got one of those, might get a deal
  21. I have been watching videos about casting thru the winter, and really been concentrating on Ed Ward's Skagit Master so today I was able to get out today & give it a good try. Well let me say that maybe not everycast yet but when you get the fly, leader,10' sink tip, 25' of Sagit line & 15-20' of running line shoot out & give the rod a shake when it stops it is a beautiful thing. Man what a blast, even though no fish it didnt matter, just let me cast again. Great Fun!
  22. I've got one, & have had it for I think maybe 3 years or so and have not had one issue, it always there, always works, gotten it wet & works fine. I havent taken a picture under water yet, but will someday, not worried about it just never seem to do it.I think the newer version has more Pixels now, mine only has only 3.2 & for me it, that isnt a big deal. One thing get rechargable batteries, much more convenient.
  23. Very nice work, beautifully done. Thanks for sharing
  24. Welcome to the board Mike. I'm not sure what 70 wieght thread is but if your wraping lead I assume your tying nymphs or streamers. Starting out I would use a 3/0 thread for the streamers & 6/0 for the nymphs or even 8/0 for the very small nymphs, but eventually you will get a feel. The feel is for how tight you need to make your wraps or hard you can pull on the thread to make tight wraps. Go out and get stronger thread, ask at the flyshop, let them know what your tying, thay will steer you the right direction & maybe you could take a beginner tying class, every shop offers them & are well worth the money, show you the tricks, the methods, & how to use the tools, it will take out the frustration & will make it enjoyable to tie
  25. Great, Thank You See you there
