AGREED! I've gots myself a 2 weight, never caught no perch on a fly rod before. That would be fun.

SWEET! I've got the scotch, you bring the chocolate cake. I'll meet you on the river. Don't forget your life jacket - we may just stumble in after a few on the rocks.

Is the cake chocolate? Could use some while I am entertained by this thread. I sinlge malt scotch 18 years would go nicely too. Mmmm...scotch.

DAMN! Sweet pics. Great job guys.

I just went through this whole thred. Yikes! Just one question, how does a traditionalist access the river - horse or car? Inquiring minds want to know. I use a double nymph rig, tried the three setup and just get ridiculous knots. Spend more time dealing with those than fishing. If I figure out what's working I lose the second and just use one nypmh. With dries only 1, never really thought of using 2 but just might give that a go. Streamers it all depends but typically I use 1, at times 2. If it's legal, moral, and ethical have at it. I am certainly not the person to tell you you are wrong. If you choose to be traditionalist, elitist, whatever remember we all need to fool the fish - don't think for a minute the best rod, reel, or line in the world or the most traditional rod, reel, or line fools that fish, it's the technique, ability to read water, and fly presentation that does. No matter your stand on the issue we are all fishermen/women and we all use whatever technique we want as long as it is within the regs. Has anyone tried to cast a pickeral rig with a fly rod? Hmmm...

Hooked yes....landed no. Only once while nymphing, 2 whities.

Brown trout in the Highwood? I don't think so but good to hear you kept safe from those bears.

A WIN card is not a license in any way, shape, or form. It's simply an identification number, as you all know, and does not give you the right to do anything but purchase hunting and fishing licenses. Don't forget you need a walleye harvest license to keep a walleye from select lakes and you need a license to hold a fish derby. So there are possibly more than one license required depending on the circumstances. But referring to the WIN is a definate NO. It isn't a license.

Need Help With A "regulations" Debate
cdock replied to OneMoreLastCast's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Reading more closely the key is the definition of a hook. It says 3 points on one shaft is ok so three hooks on a lure as long as they share a single shaft and no more than three points is ok. It's interesting the note that 4 points are actually 2 hooks, 2 shafts with 2 points. This creates confusion because I've seen many 3 point hooks with 2 shafts (1 with 2 points and 1 with one point) so this would mean on a 2 hook lure there are actualy 4 HOOKS. And this is how they are sold. Just check your lures and try to make sense of the regs or play it safe and change the treble hooks to single shaft hooks. That's what I did in BC a few years back. I read an article some time ago discussing that a treble hook doesn't necessarily increase a hook set as only one hook usually sticks anyway (except on smaller fish like Toolman mentioned) so there is really no need for a treble hook. May miss a few more fish but that's fishing. Man it's been awhile since I've fished crank baits. Think I could toss one with my 9 weight? -
Need Help With A "regulations" Debate

This happened to me in BC (not with a SJW), a small cutty decided to hit my clouser and right up into his head. I felt so bad. He didn't make it and I had to leave him behind. I was looking for a bully. It sucked. Toolman do you mean there is a higher incident rate with that style of hook? How much more so do you think? Does the size make a large difference say a size 10 doesn't seem to do this but a size 8 does? Curious to know as I'll stop using that style hook in my tying if it does make an impact. -
We have an Olympus as work and we transfer from the camera with a simple basic USB cable. No special cable needed. Not sure if the same applies to your model. From there you can put in on your card with your reader.

That's pretty cool. If I attach anymore stuff to my pack I'll look like a walking sale rack. I need to learn to leave the kitchen sink at home.

Sweet dude! I've done the same with a 2 weight! It wasn't 24 inches but it was pushing 22. I wasn't expecting him but you're right, if you know how to handle your stick you'll have nothing but fun. I'm talking fishing here guys. LOL! Oh yeah and in Water Marks Jim does a good job explaining this point in one of his chapters. Check it out, great book. -
So if it's not ok for US businesses to set up shop here it would lead to a conclusion that Canadian business shouldn't operate in other countries? Canadians would be ruining those local economies? I'm all for local shops don't get me wrong, but the reality of it is business is on a global scale now. Most businesses have an online section and if it was limited to only their country what's the point? To insist US companies don't move in would also limit the ability of Canadian businesses to expand outside the borders based on the same principle. Let's not get a double standard going. AndyW makes a really good point, we didn't all start out at specialty shops but it seems the natural progression is to start doing business there. Why isn't the SIZE of the store an issue. Wholesale Sports is quite large, much larger than Fish Tales. Is there not an equal concern that a larger store would take over the business the smaller one has? It sure was the topic when Wal-Mart started moving in. There are always going to be new stores large and small starting up whether local or from other countries. It's the nature of business. There may be impacts when the new stores are first opened but from what I understand this trend levels out (for the most part, there are always exceptions). I certainly won't be driving all the way out to Balzac or wherever for any of the stores specifically. If I'm out treading around checking the place out I'll stop in but it won't be my usual go to place. Like I said I am partial for local shops and understand this but I'm also in favor of freedom of choice to shop where you want. These businesses exist legally and it is up to each individual to make their personal choice. If there were no choices would the title of this post be something like "Why don't we have a Bass Pro Shop?" or "Why don't we have a Cabela's"?

This likes good advice Birchy. Nothing like spending the day in a fly fishing store. I'll bring the VISA, Line of Credit, Equity Loan, Mastercard, American Express...heck I'll just rob a bank! LOL! In all seriousness though it's a good suggestion. Any excuse to try new stuff.
