Cast them both. Pick the one that feels best and suits your needs. What feels good to me may not be what's good for you. I'm sure others will agree. As for reels I have Lamson and Ross reels and both give me no issues, it's a coin toss as far as performance. You'll find the same for reels, a lot of great reels out there that are awesome performers but the final decision will be based on what looks good to you. This probably doesn't help you much but a lot of decisions are personal preference, ESPECIALLY rods.

Banning anything doesn't solve any problems. Education is key. Think about it for a second, people still use barbed hooks, bait where there are bait bans, fish on closed waters, etc. There are laws and regulations against these things yet they still happen. Perhaps fishing should be banned? NOPE! Education and enforcement is what is needed. Sure it may help reduce the number of treble hooks out there but it won't stop them from being used. Perhaps the regulations should include something about the use of treble hooks i.e. when and where to use. I agree that BC restricting treble hooks from streams has some merit. Also remember there are other methods of fishing other than fly fishing and other places to fish other than streams. To ban treble hooks entirely doesn't work, after all treble hooks have their place just maybe not on streams.

A bit off topic but keeping a fish on the Bow is not always illegal. But what I would like to ask you is for your honest opinion about your observations of kept fish from the Bow. Please PM me dutchie. I sent a pm to you but please open it, it's not rude or anything.

The last few weeks I've not been feeling the greatest so I've been watching some fishing videos. With this rain I have been too, helps keep me sane since I can't actually fish. Anyway thought it would be interesting to know what other like to watch. My favorites are: A Passion for Angling Series - I highly recommend this one - old but filled with good humor - it's from the UK Underwater World of Trout Can't wait for clear streams!

Confirmed! Years ago when I started fly fishing I had a baby duck chase my dry fly. I noticed so I pulled it away before he got it. A short time a few days after an adult duck actually took my dry. I wasn't expecting it but he spit it out easily. I once caught a rock. Landed it too. Felt like a fish the whole way cause it was wobbling and pulling in the current.

I've never had a problem with price matching but it seems much easier from the local shops. They seem more readily to match prices and I assume it's linked to have you as a return customer. The larger stores require a few more hoops but I've still never had any problems. If it's a large difference I save the headache from asking for price matching and simply go straight to the cheapest shop.

You guys keep bringing out the chemistry geek in me. Nitrogen is inert, it doesn't burn. I use that at my plant for making stuff that explodes from not exploding. The gas used down gopher holes is typically propane. A little goes a long way! Oh if you use too much the gophers will launch like a potato out of a potato gun. Please don't do this, leave it to Mythbusters.

Hey all. I'm wondering about suggestions for a good reel for pike on the fly for an 8wt. Let me know what you use or suggest. I tried a search and came up with very little. All replies appreciated!

"When we pull you over in Saskatchewan , you better have your license ready by the time we get to your car." "I'm sorry officer," the driver said, "I'm not from around here." The cop runs a check on the guy's license--he's clean, and gives the guy his license back. The cop then walks around to the passenger side and taps on the window. I'm no expert but I came across a really clear pool last summer and it was holding about 6-8 whitefish. I decided to nymph a bit to just watch what happens as my curiosity for this question is the same. I cast in and I could just barely make out the bead on my nymph. I didn't use a strike indicator, just let the nymph sink naturally and slowly (no split shot either). I was surprised at what I saw. As soon as the nymph starting sinking the whitefish began to line up for a take. As it sank and moved closer to them they rose for it if it wasn't deep. I played around and when I cast further to allow the nymph to be deeper as it approached the fish they simply lined up and inhaled it as it came to them on bottom. When I short casted and it was in the middle of the water column they rose to take it as well. When the nymph was in the upper half of the water column the fish took note and still lined up but about 75% less attempts to actually take the nymph but they still made a pass at it. Needless to say I expected the nymph to float right on by if it wasn't on bottom or within a foot or so of bottom. It was really cool to watch. I played around for a bit and it was consistent. I found another hole with the same scenario and same results. Haven't been able to observe this as clearly with trout but I know in deeper pools as my nymph sinks I often have a take from a trout. This however is usually in turbid water where the water comes over rocks and creates a little eddy behind and very aerated. Could also have been one of those days where it doesn't matter how you cast or what fly the fish were simply on but from what I can tell from this and other experiences (I nymph probably 90% of the time) I have takes throughout the entire float from when the nymph hits the water and of course on the tailout and everywhere in between. Depth of water, where you are located (pool, riffle, etc.), time of day (hatch happening under water, on top of water, etc.) and I'm sure there are other factors, all play in how and when the fish take. I too would like to hear the pros.
