  1. Are there still perch to be bonked? Jeepers just get a stick of TNT.
  2. That never crossed my mind. Sounds like you are familiar with that routine though.
  3. I have a few weeks off coming up and just wondering of some suggestions for camping on the FTR. I've driven it, fished it, but never camped it. I'll be all alone and I'm gonna do some exploring of creeks and streams I've never fished before. That is if the weather cooperates and we don't end up in a camping and fishing ban again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me too if you like. Thanks in advance...
  4. I just made a similar comment to Birchy last week. There is one place I have been going for ten years and it's less than 500m from the main highway. Very rarely are there others there and when there is it's only a couple of guys and it's nice actually speaking with them and sharing some stories and fishing "secrets". I was always thought that was part of this gig.
  5. Love the macro photos.
  6. I agree. They are also great at getting the nymph rig down fast with their added weight.
  7. What a rip! I'd be pretty cheesed too. I hope it all works out well for you.
  8. Thanks guys. It's what I thought it would be cause it's a Canon.
  9. I like to carry a spare spool and line with me (usually a sink tip line on the spare) but I'm wondering if multi tip lines work well like the Quad Tip from SA. Does anyone have any experience with these lines? Any thoughts on what the better system is multi tip vs. two spools?
  10. It looks like Canon has finally come out with a waterproof point and shoot. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm a big fan of Canon and I'm thinking of changing from my Pentax Optio to the Canon.

    Evening On The Bow

    Sweet fish.
  12. I've got a TFO Finesse and I love it. SO much fun. I have an Okuma reel for it and love the reel as well.
  13. Mine are very worn out and just starting the third season. I'll be looking for something different as my previous pair lasted like 5+ years. They were Hodgmans.
  14. Welcome to fly fishing. I converted from spin about 10 years ago. Although I secretly sometimes take the spin gear out just to keep the dust off.
  15. Finally someone who knows where this is.
  16. Wicked fish!
  17. I've had this issue at times as well. The tag end tends to get beat up a bit, at least in my old vest. I used to just snip off a couple of inches and then the problem went away. I now have my tippet in a nice little pouch of its own and problem solved. I also used to have my tippet on a spool on the outside of my vest and that was much worse as it got beat up pretty bad from the trees, weeds, and sun. Storage solved my issues.
  18. I agree 100%. I gotta take one of his classes.
  19. Yeah I've seen them too. Never in Alberta though. In Saskatchewan is where I have seen them. I once had one on the back of my neck. I didn't know what it was until I pulled it out. Luckily head and all came out and I had no issues. I saw a dog with one the size of a large corky indicator. The owner ripped it off and it exploded. Totally gross.
  20. Garlic. Or so I'm told. Crush it and rub it your wrists and neck or anywhere a tick can gain access to under your clothes in order to bite. I've never tried it. One added benefit is no one would fish near you.
  21. I've been through the Jumpingpound water fiasco before. It's too much trouble to fish the water and the fishing is subpar due to all of the cattle activity. Spend your energy and avoid the land issue on other waters. You'll enjoy it much better.
  22. I have a Flambeau (I think) box. It's not specifically for flies but it seals and floats. It's a fair size but does fit in my back pouch of my vest and deosn't bother me. It doesn't allow the hooks to be stuck in anything, they are just a big pile in a box. But for the big pike flies it doesn't really matter and they never tangle. I have some bass bugs in there too.
  23. I pretty much do the same. Of all methods I'm best at nymphing and it works for me the way you described. The most important thing once it's in the water of course is the drift. It's kind of like golf, drive for show putt for dough - cast for show, drift for dough. At least for nymphing in my mind. I really need to work on my dry fly skills.
  24. That's like the billionith time I've heard that. So true.
