  1. I'm all about the half jackets by Oakley. Interchangeable lenses. I can switch to clear lenses in the dark and still have protection. When I need the polarized I just pop in. When the lenses get scratched simply buy more lenses. I've been using this interchangeable system for years. Several others make them like Nike and Smith and I'm sure there are others. Love the system, glasses for any condition. I believe Oakley just came out with a "Fishing Specific" lens. I haven't checked it out but I wil lbe.
  2. Hat, hoodie (Medium), and a couple of window stickers.
  3. That's my boy! I'm so happy for you bud you have no idea. When do I get to see the little guy? SOON I HOPE!
  4. The lakes close to Mt. Assiniboine are all in the provinical park so a National Park license isn't needed, just a BC license. However there are many streams and lakes on the way you could fish that do require a National Park license. Map it out before you go. I decided to avoid the extra cost. You don't have to reserve a spot if you are tenting. It's a first come first serve basis and random camping is allowed as well (no fires any time though which kinda sucks). It you want to stay at one of the huts or a cabin then you have to reserve. Follow proper camping rules (don't eat near your tent, cook downwind, etc.) as there are grizzlies everywhere. If you are thinking of doing it, DO IT! It was so awesome. Don't go too early though. We went at the end of June and had to hike through waste deep snow for a few kms. I think August would be ideal.
  5. Good to hear it went well Bud! I was thinking of ya out on the strip in Vegas. I just left you a message.
  6. What part of the river holds the goldeye? I've always wanted to catch one.
  7. MMAX - it was about 18". Really colorful, nice and thick and healthy. Spunky as I mentioned before. Jumped a ton and really high. I never knew they were scarce, I just assumed they were further down from the dam. Man if I knew that I would have taken a picture. I wanted to realease it quick and my wife was too far away to wait for her to get the camera so I just let it go. Man I wish I knew that.
  8. A fire ban (red area) doesn't mean you can't fish or hike or anything so the activities are as normal. The area closer means nothing is going on in that area (purple) including fishing, hiking, etc. Is this correct? I hope so cause that would mean we could still fish, hike, etc. but just no fires in the red area. Sucks about the purple area though. So as mentioned 1, 2, and 3 are pretty much closed but I see Highway 22 is still open so that stills open up a lot of options. Sorry to hear you guys in the 1,2, and 3 sections are so put off on your holidays and plans. Hopefully it all opens up soon.
  9. Bow closed? Can't be. How the heck could they enforce that? I hope that ain't true. Man this is really gonna change my plans too. I'll have to start looking around for alternatives.
  10. So I made it out. However I forgot the fly rod. I took the wife so I gathered up all the spinning gear for her and I forgot to throw in the fly rod. Anyhoo, she managed to get a nice pike. I managed a walleye and a rainbow. The rainbow was awesome. Big time jumper. I saw a few fish jumping clear out of the water in the middle so I figured I'd try a small spinner under the surface and it slammed it third cast. I'm so upset I forgot my fly rod but hey, there's always next time. All fish were barely handled and released very quickly and easily without a net and without bashing their heads on the rocks. I like this no net idea. I saw a few fellow fly fishers out and watched them for a bit. The water was boiling with risers (there was a great caddis hatch) but I didn't see a single take. MMax said it...good luck. I assume they were browns and very selective. I'll be back to target those guys next time I think. Popular spot though, lots of competition for the good spots.
  11. Congrats dude! I've always loved those flies. Great workmanship indeed.
  12. Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge Tour
  13. Anyone know if this area is fishable? I wanna try for some Walleye on the fly. I read an article about it awhile ago and want to give it a go.
  14. This has happened before. Toolman sums it up well. Leave you cat nip at home on your next trip down there.
  15. Wow! Great report.
  16. Hey Dutch, those are some nice small pike there. Got any of big pike? LOL! Nice pike dude. Did you get those on the fly?
  17. I do have to agree now that I think about, the fishing this season has been the best I've ever seen. Thanks guys for the tips how to read and apply the flow rates.
  18. Or just slacking at work...
  19. I guess I should specify. Trimming the hair to the proper shape is more my problem. I like your suggestion rusty to do all the bodies at once and get a rythym. Great idea. Thanks man!
  20. I've been looking at flow rates and understand that high flows do not make the best fishing conditions. What about low flows - what is too low? Also what is considered "ideal" flows - would this be steady flows for numerous days that stay constant?
  21. Off topic but Donnamatrix...love the avatar! LOL!
  22. I have a really tough time spinning and trimming deer hair, say for a bow river bugger head or goddard caddis. Any suggestions to make this a better experience? It would be greatly appreciated.
  23. I just realized I broke the 300 post mark. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all the administrators and moderators of this site. You guys do an outstanding job and I don't even understand where you get the time. Keep up the great work guys! I also want to thank all of the other contributing members who've particiapted in the various and numerous posts. I've been fly fishing for 9 years and thought I knew it all. I realized I knew just the tip of the ice berg. Thanks to all of you fellow members I've learned a ton and have enjoyed great stories and pictures about fishing and other related topics. This is a one-of-a-kind site IMHO that has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and freeness that others lack. Let's do our best to keep it this way and help out the admin and moderators. Happy fishing to all! And in esleech's words...BEEEEEYAAAH!
  24. Thanks for the headsup. I'll have to stop cooking beans and bacons on the shore for awhile I guess. LOL!
