  1. It was $460 at Russells. Last one though.
  2. I don't know but pretty sweet looking fish.
  3. So I picked myself up a new rod last week, a Sage TCR 5 weight and finally tried it out on Saturday. What a great rod! It was a steal of a price and a HUGE upgrade from my old setup. Just when I thought I couldn't spend more on this sport...
  4. Not complaining, just looking for other peoples input and thoughts.
  5. Nature sure is cruel and down right violent at times there is no doubt about that. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense. Zoos don't put seals in with polar bears or zebra in with lions. It just makes sense. That's all that didn't sit well with me, it didn't make sense. I just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on it. Thanks for the responses guys.
  6. Yeah I have an SLR and 4 lenses and a kitchen sink. Usually I carry my little Pentax Optio in the same pocket you are referring to but once in awhile I want to take some good shots while I'm out in back country. I tried putting the SLR in that pocket but the zipper wouldn't close. LOL!
  7. I don't have much experience with the car mounted ones but from what I have experienced they don't have the same capability as the hand held with regards to backroads, rivers, etc. However some internet searching I have found a few that are considered "both" car mounted and portable. Weedy1's links will get you there. I'm a garmin fan myself and love my etrex with the Topo map software. I can set waypoints on the software and map out my day and then update with my tracks later from the GPS. It works great. I believe there is some kind of car kit to mount it as well. It certainly isn't fancy like the car ones that tell you when to turn and stuff which would be sweet. I'm interested to see if there is something that works well for both street and backroads.
  8. No intention here to hijack the thread but for the guys and gals out there that take camera equipment with them what vest do you use? I have a great camera backpack but it gets in the way of my vest. Any suggstions?
  9. That's a sweet vest. Thanks for the link.
  10. I've got a William Joseph Equinox and I love it. I'm like you I carry everything with me including the kitchen sink. It works great and has a pouch big enough for some water and a stream side snack/lunch.
  11. Oh man PETA would have a gong show going on in that place. I'm sure they've already made their mark with Bass Pro Shops some where. I may be concerned about the tank but I wouldn't sick PETA on my worst enemy.
  12. OH man I'm in tears! That's freaking hilarious!
  13. Oh great, one more thing to have in/on my vest. One guy said I look like I have more gear than NASA.
  14. Wow! I just went through my pictures and last year on the long weekend I was fishing Bear. Caught a lot as well. I'm surprised there is still ice. Perhaps global cooling has kept the ice there?
  15. Thanks guys. Hey jksnijders I'm jealous, I've always wanted to catch a sturgeon. Some day I guess.
  16. That's exactly the fish I saw and there a couple more in there but not as bad but still beat up the same way. That picture says a thousand words.
  17. Well I called. The explanation: "The pike in the tank likes to take a swipe here and there at the trout. That's what happens in nature so that's what happens in the tank to reflect nature and the local fish. That's how it is in the local rivers and lakes so we what to reflect the natural settings. So it's ok." Hmm...natural settings have much more opportunities for the fish to escape as well as more natural and abundant features for fish to survive (cover, structure, etc.) and not to mention a tank IS NOT NATURAL. I didn't speak directly with the tank overseer but I did leave my name and number. I completely understand having a display if the fish are well taken care as well as their wellbeing but I fail to see the logic in comparing a tank with natural setting. It's like putting a cat in a room full of mice. Sure it's natural for the cat to catch the mice but is it fair for the mice? Eventually all the mice will be eaten. If they were in their natural settings I'm sure some if not most would get away. I'm a bit taken aback, this just does not sit well with me.
  18. No but that's a good idea. I tried talking to someone last night but it seems no one really has it together out there. I think I will call.
  19. Would a float tube work for pike fishing? Just wondering how difficult it may be to land a large pike on a float tube. Or perhaps would you go for one heck of a ride?
  20. So I was in Bass Pro Shops last night and noticed a few of the trout with LARGE gashes/gouges/whatever you want to call them but you could see bare flesh and blood. These fish looked in TERRIBLE condition. I'm not sure where they came from but it seems to me there are not being well taken care of. Or perhaps the pike swimming amongst them took a chunk out of them? Bottomline is this dosen't sit well with me. Am I off my rocker being concerned about this? I don't think so but why is this ok?
  21. I've narrowed my selection for a dSLR down to two Canon models. The Rebel XSi and the 40D. Any thoughts of which one to go with? Thanks in advance for your feedback and recommendations.
  22. What do you call a fish with no eye? Fsh.
  23. Less is more!
