  1. If you get jigs make sure they have the flat bottomed head so the hook point stays up. You can also tie your own with Sculpin heads.
  2. Has anyone used or currently using this sling pack? Your thoughts please. Sorry but not really interested in other slings at the moment.
  3. I wear progressive on a daily basis and they work well. For fishing I tried the bifocals but find the line is always in the way. Maybe that is just the make. Switched to a polarized lens with my prescription minus the reader portion and just use separate readers to tie on flies now. This works best for me. Actually cuts down the cost as well.
  4. I had a Regal and switched to a Peak Rotary vise. Mostly for the Saltwater jaw option but i could not live without my true rotary vise.
  5. Would be glad to donate a couple bags of empty bottles to help you out with the shortfall Peter.
  6. Could not live without my AC. Most of my neighbors have Carrier and I have a Lennox. Too friken loud! Make sure the decibels are low. Your neighbors will thank you. Also forget the Vacuflo or just have it left at the rough in stage. We bought the $500 Dyson cannister and it is 10X better than our $1200 built in vac ever was. Soft water is GREAT!
  7. If you don't stop 5-6 hours. It makes for a nice 8 hour trip though to stop a bit along the way and fish some runs.
  8. Fly reels are designed to be palmed whether fishing fresh or salt 3wt or 12wt just like a spinning reel and bait caster are designed to be fingered or thumbed. Ask any salt guide if they recommend cranking down on a fly reels drag. Nope!
  9. Thanks for the replies. Can I take it across the border by vehicle and does it need to be declared?
  10. What are some of the quality recommended bear spray brands out there?
  11. Princess Auto has anchor rope on sale right now. 100' of quality nylon tight weave for $46.00 large spool or 50' for $23.00
  12. Lots of lakes between Golden and Radium. Camp at either end and do day commutes. Best if you have a boat or canoe. Also some great stream fishing up there as well. If it is for summer July and August, lakes will need to be higher altitude. Also good stream fishing and camping through-out the Crowsnest pass.
  13. I tried mushroom anchors but they did not hold bottom on a windy day while on lakes. Pyramid anchors (lead) hold a lot better and I used a 13lb one. 20lb is a bugger to get off a muddy bottom. As Murray said, don't anchor in fast water. 30 ft of 3/8" should be plenty for most (90%) of situations but I have 50' for some deep water situations while chironomiding. Wholesales or the Fishin hole have them. You do not need expensive rope. You can buy the 100' cheap stuff at all the hardware places, Canuk tire, Walmart etc. It is stiffer than quality anchor rope. If you don't mind spending the $'s get the true soft anchor rope. This has a tight weave and UV protection not the crap packaged as anchor rope. True anchor rope you buy by the foot. Glenmore sailboats has it. Not sure if Canadian Tire still has the big coils or not. Big hand pumps blow up pontoons quickly and never needed an electric pump.
  14. Weber. Broil King was my last one and it lasted 10 years so good also.
  15. http://calgaryringroad.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/2009-southwest-calgary-ring-road-design/
  16. Good starter books. $22.95 new http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0962666394/ref=sr_1_3_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1389832045&sr=8-3&keywords=jeff+currier&condition=used $20 @ show 2 years ago. Also has a website Baja Flyfishing Company. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0578075563/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1389832110&sr=8-1&keywords=mike+rieser&condition=used
  17. Bought my books from either amazon.com, amazon.ca or good old eBay. All used and in great condition.
  18. NoSlack. Nothing you have said here has contributed to Bigbowtrout's post. If you have nothing constructive to add or don't answer the question don't post in the thread.
  19. There are a few good people who work there but unfortunately, the majority would rather look busy stocking shelves than actually knowing their department and helping folks out with a positive attitude. Good candidate for an Undercover Boss episode ! Ten people in line and one cashier who also does returns, go figure. Unless one is buying a rifle or spinning gear I'm not sure why fly fishermen would not be going to a fly shop to buy their stuff. Kinda like going to Walmart for a home theater set-up. If they think they save money at the big box stores they obviously are fooled and don't really check the prices. At least WSS is better than the big box North of the city. That one really is a waste of time and gas money.
  20. I think any welding shop in town could have built the same damn thing for under $50,000. Art or not, still a waste of money !
  21. I'm with TerryH. Don't throw them out. Give them away so someone can use as rain pants. I have an old pair of Wardell's that I did the same thing and they work great when lake fishing from the pram.
  22. Do NOT clamp tightly with Gorilla glue. It needs to expand. The reason it fails for many is they don't follow the instructions properly. Can't blame the glue for lack of common sense. Gorilla glue is widely used in boat building now UNDER the water line.
  23. Re-felted my boots with Gorilla glue and works like a charm.
  24. Depends where. Cuba is still a no. Mexico has a 4 rod limit. sometimes enforced, sometimes not.
