  1. Found Thanks
  2. On Kijiji 30 lb Pyramid Anchor $70.00,obo In Okotoks 587 433 9353
  3. Every boat, kayak, canoe, jet ski, sail, raft etc. must stop to be inspected.
  4. How do you find the magnum blades? Both blades are $110 each CAD or $79 USD The Magnum blades do look a little beefier though.
  5. Need to replace my oar blades. I was going to order Cataract magnums but I see they have a new Cutthroat oar blade specifically for Drift boats. The Cutthroats place more blade in the water. Has anyone used these? Thoughts? Cutthroat left and Magnum on right.
  6. I would suggest Lee's Lake as well especially if your daughter is young. Lots of fish so she won't get bored. Can get windy but you can find spots out of the wind. You can slowly troll pretty much any small nymph or streamer/leech and get fish. Chironomids work well here too.
  7. Off the topic of a new rod but I would take the $500 and get into a decent new/used pontoon boat. Sitting a foot or two higher will make a lot of difference. So many advantages of a pontoon over a float tube. Started in a float tube, then pontoon and now fish lakes from a pram. Still find my old 9' rods are fine.
  8. Convert your CAD to USD and advertise in Montana and it is gone! Lots of old Purist's down there that still love the originals. The wooden boat followers are few and far between here in Calgary.
  9. http://www.bajaflyfish.com/about_staff.php Read his book and this place is on my bucket list.
  10. Terry is a great host for these trips as is Fishtales. Very organized and Terry has been there plenty of times and even speaks Spanish. I would stick with the 8 and 10. A 6 or 7 wt is a luxury when no wind present which is rare when salt fishing. An 11 is for GT's or 100 lb plus Tarpon. Also big difference between rods which will allow a lot more flexibility. Example a TFO BVK 8wt which is light and casts like a cannon but weak for lifting power vs. a TFO TiCrx 8wt. Heavier, still casts like a cannon but you can catch Bones to Tarpon on it. It is built tough and needs to be overlined. My absolute favorite rod in my quiver is my Sage Xi3 9wt. It almost cast's itself. Book the trip as you only live once.
  11. The Tarpon flies are all 2/0 & 1/0. Crab patterns 1 & 2 Bonefish flies 4, 6 & 8. These flies are for the flats and lagoons down in Ascension Bay. If you do any blue water or inshore fishing (Mayan area) tie up some Sardina patterns in white/rootbeer white/ocean blue or white/dark olive. On the top you can tie in 4-6 strands of Peacock herl or dark brown crystal flash.
  12. Off to Mexico this winter.
  13. I know this is not the answer you are searching for but... With proper layering you will be much more comfortable and WARMER in breathable waders. I use my breathable's all winter long and am always toasty. Of course my electric socks help.
  14. I also use this method when fishing BC lakes and it works very well and have not had a fish inhale the fly. I do strip it like a mad man and maybe that is why they always seem to hook the lip. I also use a wide gap hook.
  15. Geez there have been a few. Bow River with Terry Johnson from Fishtales. Nobody works harder in my opinion. I watched Terry today pulling his boat up to the top of a run multiple times so his clients could get another drift through a productive run. Class act! Christmas Island hunting the GT's and Blue Trevally. Fly water travel. Set up through Fishtales fly shop. Cowichan River BC. Old Fred now retired from guiding. Damn! Turneffe Flats Belize. Years ago but very relaxing and lots of fish. San Jose Del Cabo Mexico. Barter with a panga guy, buy some Sardina and head out for Dorado. What a blast. 8 wt. was not enough rod! Loretto Mexico for Roosters and Dorado. Forgot the company but I still think there is only one. This was a great vacation for my wife and I.
  16. If I can cast a $300 TFO rod as well as an $800+ Sage, Loomis or Winston rod who cares if the cork is not as pretty as Heidi Klum! I fish Sage, Loomis, Scott, Orvis and yes, $300 TFO rods. I agree the fit and finish may not equal high end (overpriced IMO) rods but I choose a rod that works for me and not something that belongs in a glass display case. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know 50%+ of a high end rods price is to pay for marketing. As far as warranty, I don't think there is any better than TFO and I have only had to use it once while my Scott and Sage rods have been sent in a few times over the years. I no longer buy into the "overseas" quality argument either. The Korean's do some pretty nice work and have a hell of a lot better quality control than China and even some US companies.
  17. I have used epoxy and wood flour in the past for deep gouges. It dries in a day and you can sand it smooth and just touch up with paint. As Tungsten says, gelcoat may not stick well to epoxy but it is a river boat and you're bound to get more dings and scrapes down the road.
  18. Found this on the flybc site. Never knew this existed. http://www.stolenboats.ca/services.html
  19. Thanks all. I found some from a buddy that owns a hockey skill center. These are the workout/hockey mats. Free is good too!
  20. Actually one on Kijiji for $50 right now, Fishing buddy model http://www.kijiji.ca/v-boat-parts-trailer-accessories/calgary/hummingbird-110-fish-finder/1062869929?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
  21. I want to install rubber floors in my Hyde on the casting decks. What is everyone using and where can I find them? I found some real heavy duty mat's at Industrial Plastics and paint which is very heavy weight wise. These are for a pick up bed but maybe there is an alternative? Found the interlocking rubber with holes at Canuck tire but they are too soft and flimsy. Everything else I have seen is pretty thin or very slippery. Thanks
  22. A depth sounder is invaluable for still water fishing as it will show the drop offs and ledges which fish normally cruise. It will of course also show the depth the fish are cruising at. You can get the fishing buddy depth sounder plus side scanner for a pontoon set up.
  23. Get yourself a clear intermediate line. Great for trolling/casting streamers and nymphs in the lakes. I prefer the Cortland Camo 444 line as it has very low memory. Don't like SA clear lines and have not tried the Rio clear/camo. Obviously with Chironomid fishing you will want an anchor for your pontoon and at least 25 ft of rope if not 50. On my pram I have 65's for some deep water in BC. Don't get a ball as they roll on the bottom. 10lb pyramid should be fine for your pontoon. A great lake to get started with chironomids, streamers or nymphs is lee's lake down South. Lots of 10" - 12" fish eager to take just about anything. That is where I started my kids off so they wouldn't get bored. When I started stillwater fishing, I watched and read numerous Chan and Rowley video's and books. There is also a stillwater section on this forum if you scroll down the topics.
