6 is a little heavy for Lee's but will work. Take Chironomids, Peacock halfbacks and small micro leech. Lots of eager little fish. Take my kids there to keep them happy. Dry line will work fine with a long 15 ft. leader. Little split shot if you need to get down a bit.

I have seldom had any problems with pontooners or those with drift boats. Wish I could say the same for the wing nuts who do the corporate floats with the big rafts or the weekend party animals in the little rafts waiting for everyone to arrive. Need to start carrying a pellet gun on board.

I'm sure fishtales will do it as they are top notch but do yourself and Fishtales a favor and buy a few flies, leaders or something. Without that, it's like going to a fly shop and asking what flies they are biting on then walking out the door without spending a penny.

It's a bugger trying to find the right foam here in Calgary. I had to bring mine in from the UK. I have a few extra sheets of Plastazote 12"x8" x 5mm thick. Just a hair over 1/8" Has adhesive backing. $10 per sheet.

Sage 1880 is a good one. $139 and sealed drag. Also a Teton 8LA or 10LA. Have to go to Ebay for those though.

Another vote for Fishtales. Would not shop anywhere else for supplies. They know their stuff and staff is friendly. Better selection than anyone else as well.

Humminbird 170 for me. I do a lot of lake fishing and this thing gives me everything I need. Very clear and accurate read of fish, bottom, temp etc.

Manitoba for it's fishing diversity, weather in summer and cheap real estate. If you're into stillwater, then kamloops is by far the best going. Over 200 lakes within an hours drive. Flowing water I'd head to the Crowsnest area as you're close to BC as well. Mexico for me.

Rods, reel, lines ok but no hooks in flights originating from Canada. Hooks ok on US flights.

Mike. Talk to Brunsie about the foam thing. I think you'll be more weight than plywood with all the epoxy not to mention cost.

biggyj I use to fish some pretty big lakes when I fished from a pontoon boat. Would never want to row them plus on a windy day you can't beat an electric motor. I had a Minn Kota 30lb with a wheel chair battery gel cel. Small and light weight and it would last me a full day. Like Tungsten said, travel in reverse when crossing a lake and use your fins to steer. Just tighten the knob on the motor shaft once you get her going straight. Very relaxing too ! Here are some pics from mine regarding the platform, dry box, motor and anchor mount. Mine is an aluminium Scadden and I had a welder do the mods for me. If you need used aluminium go to Federal metals over on 52nd SE. Flat sheet goods plus tubing. Cheap !

NO NEED FOR A BROKER !!!! Waste of money in my opinion. Great excuse for a road trip although I don't think the savings will be huge on a $6000 - $8000 drift boat. I would think all of the drift boat manufacturers have sold boats to Canadians. Have THEM do the paper work. They will send the required paperwork to Customs 3 days before you cross the line. If they won't, buy a boat from another company. GST paid at border and a 5 minute check at Canadian tire regarding tire size and vehicle comlpliance stamp and you're on your way. Go to the RIV site and it will tell you all you need to know.
