  1. Only 288 sigs as of this morning, need to get this rolling. Colin
  2. I'm fishing a 4pc Snowbee Prestige 5wt, very fast rod with a nice crisp action, drop me a PM if you want to cast it, I've got it lined with a few different Snowbee lines. Colin
  3. You mean something like these? These should be arriving at the shop in the next few days. Colin
  4. I stock my boxes depending on destination and how much gear I want to ''haul' around. I keep one box of each dedicated to dries, nymphs, streamers, chronies, damsel/dragonfly, scud/shrimp, saltwater salmon/sea run cuttthroat and steelhead. I always have 4 or 5 empty boxes that I can fill on a moments notice with what I think is necessary. I 'load' my boxes from a chest of drawers (nut and bolt organizer) that I'm constantly filling with flies. If I'm fishing the Bow I usually carry 3 or 4 boxes, if I'm off on a small creek and only carrying my chest pack I try to limit myself to 2 of the small C&F 'leafed' fly boxes loaded with an assortment of caddis dries/emergers/pupae, mayfly dries/emergers/nymphs, hopper/stonefly dries, and streamers. Colin
  5. I run Toyo M55's on my F150. Most of the logging crew trucks on Van Is. run these tires, tough as nails, not as noisy as some 10ply's. Price wise they were decent, not sure what a set would run today, but 4 years ago they set me back about $700 (including tax) on the Island. Will definitely get another set, although I will probably go back to stock size instead of the 275's Colin
  6. My 'go to' all purpose line is a Snowbee XS XD (extreme distance) WF 6wt line. Although I'm really liking the XS TC (two colour) line as well, the head on it is a little shorter. Coatings on all the Snowbee line are extremely 'slick' and allow for great shootability and durability, I have a line that is now going into its 4th season and is starting to look a little beat up but still floats and shoots extremely well. SouthBow carries them, but you've got to be quick, they usually disappear as fast as they bring them in. Colin
  7. You will slowly see more and more companies using Facebook as their primary marketing tool, its one of the cheapest ways to get a companies name out there. With over 50 million members its become a marketing bonanza and because it requires some form of 'engagement' to actually use it companies feel they reach more folks than TV. Colin - yes I'm on Facebook
  8. actually I meant pave it or pour concrete, that will deal with any weeds.
  9. We were informed by our builder, that because we had a 'sill plate?' already installed that we didn't need the permit, our deck is 8'X20' and approx 3' above grade (although I think the sill plate is where grade is measured from?, and we are level with that). Colin
  10. Theres definitely a difference in fly quality out here. Buy from one of the more fly fishing focused shops (SouthBow, Fishtales, CP, ect.) they are carry quality flies that should last. I rarely use head cement on flies I tie anymore (especially bead head patterns), a secure whip finish gets the job done and I eliminate one step in the process. I don't recall the last time I had one of my own patterns come unwrapped. Colin

No worries, guess I'm just getting a little cranky in my old age. Feel free to PM me with any other rod building questions you might have. Colin

Not sure if I'm taking your response the wrong way or not, but this section is called 'Ask the Pro's' and currently I'm making a bit of a living as a Rod Builder/repairs, so yes when it comes to rod building I do have some answers or at least know folks that do. Colin

Contact Don Anderson, cane rod builder in Rocky Mountain house and sponsor here on the board, he should be able to point you in the right direction for what you need. http://bamboorods.ca/ Colin

    Rod Repair

is there a label or anything written on the rod? There may be a chance that someone has a tip section sitting around, I've purchased lots of broken/damaged rods off of Ebay to use as spare parts for repairs, so you never know someone might just have the piece you need. Colin

    Rod Repair

If broken into multiple pieces (especially the tip section) I would say un-repairable. I even hesitate on doing sleeves on a single break on the tip section as it usually results in a fairly substantial change in the rods action. Depending on the rod manufacturer you may be able to order a new tip section and then just have it re-wrapped. Colin
  16. Both the Elixir and Tonic heads work well as single hand lines, I'm tossing a 5/6 Tonic (320gr) on my 6/7wt single hander, distance and ability to turn large flies/indicator rigs is phenomenal. 6 or 7 years ago I had a chance to take a Beulah 10'6 4/5 switch rod up to the Chilkotin for a week of Chironomid and damsel nymph fishing. It ended up being a perfect rod for this type of fishing (especially out of a pontoon), was able to reach fish a lot further up on the shoals than the guys around me and it excelled at tossing an indicator with 20+ feet of leader. Colin
  17. South Bow has Red Acetate Floss For the tippet rings, I haven't seen any in town, wonder though if you can get split rings (for gear fishing) that small, if so then WSS or BPS might have them. Colin
  18. They are phenomenal blanks, have built a few rods on them, CTS themselves can be a bit difficult to deal with as they are in NZ (and sometimes seem like a world away) but the ability to choose action, length, weight and colour is a huge bonus. Looking forward to seeing what you guys have in stock. Colin
  19. okay, lets put it this way then, who pays to keep the 'lights on' at FFC? Certainly not my membership fees or yours so the funding must come from somewhere. Just Say'in!!
  20. And they are a board sponsor. Noticed a lot of referrals to kiijiji, e-bay and the like recently, yet I don't see any of these sites donating prizes, swag, ect. to FFC get togethers. I know everyone is looking for a deal, but it hurts when we can't even support those that support us. Just my $.02 Colin
  21. had one, didn't work well with my 2200lb trailer, tires kept coming off the rim and deflating when turning the unit as well didn't work at all on gravel. Colin
  22. Didn't get any cutts, fished it last fall and got some nice 'bows' and a few on the verge of spawning brookies. Colin
  23. Hmmm Summit, need to plan a day or two over there Colin
  24. 5'6" to 6'6" 2/3wt bamboo rods are my fave for Cataract, Quirk and other small stream in this end of the province. Upper Livingston and Oldman and similar, I like to use a 7'6" 3wt graphite rod to punch out longer casts as well as deal with the afternoon winds. Colin
