I believe Forecast/Pac Bay has blue chrome guide(BLSNG). Not sure what ever became of the holographic guide, out of the 300 rods or so that I've built I've never had a request for them. Colin

Actually I've found the complete opposite compared to other lines, higher floating equates to less line on the water, so less 'line ripping' when lifting. There are plenty of lines out there, each has its pluses and minuses, its up to the buyer to decide which is best for them. Colin

Great flies Gary!! I'm not against using synthetics in my patterns, there are a number of pre-made extended bodies on the market that work really well, and I always keep a few patterns in my boxes. This is a damselfly/mayfly nymph (callibaetis) that I've had some success on over the years. Body is larva lace with a few strands of antron and flash pulled through, very durable. Colin

We forget that fish in a lake will usually out weigh a similar stream raised fish every time, 22 inch 5 lb fish are not that uncommon from a lake with a good forage base. Nice fish Jeremie Colin

I always thought the license's were used as a management tool for fisheries ( i.e how many anglers are out there). As our population ages would it not make sense for persons over 65 to at least have a valid WIN card so the government has an idea of how many anglers (of all ages) are on the water. The Federal Gov does it with saltwater licenses, under 16 and over 65 are free but you still need to go through the process of the license as well as purchase any required stamps. Colin

If using an indicator your fly needs to hang straight down, so your leader length is dictated by the depth of the water and where the fish are in the water column. i.e. fish feeding at 15ft then your fly needs to be 15ft below your indicator. Colin

I'd put more stock into the actual taper of the line than what the box says. If you are set on a 3wt line I would suggest looking at a DT line instead of a WF it will definitely improve the accuracy of the rod although not the distance as this rod does require a 4wt to load it properly, hence the reason Dan suggested it as a 4wt. I'm sure most shops would offer a refund on a line that was returned with original packaging and in re-sale condition, so you may have to pay to settle your curiosity. Colin

Hmm, wasn't this rod originally supposed to be fished as a 4wt as per your requirements? Dan felt this blank would be the best fit as a 4wt in the action, length and pack-ability you were looking for. Not saying it won't cast a 3wt line, I was able to test cast a 3wt Rio Trout line on it no problem, just took a little 'adjustment' of my casting stroke and timing, but with a 3wt line this rod excels at distances under 30ft making it a great small stream rod. For a 4wt I test cast a Greys Platinum WF4 with a 40' head and the rod loaded and performed effortlessly. Colin

I had elbow problems (dis-located due to a ski accident) for years, took up fishing with a Spey rod and have been relatively pain free for many years now. I do fish a single hander, I just try to use the spey rod in between as much as possible. I still find after the 3rd or 4th day in a row with a single hand rod that I have some pain and swelling. I've tried quite a few different braces as well as physio but find that when I start to ache the best thing is to do is start swinging the spey rod. Colin

Take a look at Walker Bay boats , we had an 8' for quite a few years and it was very light and fairly stable, price is around what you are looking to spend, sometimes they show up on craigslist for a decent price. Colin

Below the falls on either side used to produce fish when I was a kid, as well as the Spray River 8 to 10 Km's up. And there was a time when every little beaver pond held lots of willing brookies. Not sure of the regs there now a days as its been 30 years since I fished it. Colin
