  1. if it's just a pinhole, just use the aquaseal, I've been doing that for years with no issue.
  2. awesome, thanks for sharing. Not part of the Wyoming Cutt slam, but go after Lahontans
  3. I also have a Outcast 9' boat. They're sold locally so getting replacement bladders and stuff is easy. I really, really wanted a Dave Scadden boat, but if I had trouble with it, it would of been difficult to deal with someone out of the States and getting parts may have taken longer than getting a Outcast, so got the Outcast. No problems with it.
  4. I supported WSS, but I think the Edm market may have been oversaturated. We have/had Army and Navy Cabelas Campers Village Canadian Tire M.E.C The Fishing Center The Fishin Hole WSS + as others have said, the on-line shopping prolly took a bite out of each of the above retailers. We've lost the Fishing Center and with the closing of WSS, you would think it would mean more market share between the remaining, but alas, Bass Pro is coming to town. I hope the Fishin Hole can survive. I've been going there since I was a kid.
  5. I always supported WSS and the Fishin Hole. I avoided buying stuff from Cabelas, as they were too pricey and too far from my home. When I started fly-fishing in 2002, I made trips to WSS North Side what seemed like every few days. Mike was always helpful. When the SS store opened up I started going there and got to know Rob C. Hope those hundreds of people can quickly find other work. With the new BPS opening soon, it surely would of taken another bite out of WSS sales. Looks like I'll be doing all of my shopping at the Hole
  6. I don't want to knock the boat. He's obviously put in a lot of resources to build it. Kudos to him, nice to see a local product. The hydrodynamic properties and the stand up option are selling points for sure, but one can buy a PT boat with a 'stand up feature' for much less $$$. And as Joe has said, the "on the spot' maneuverability of a PT boat just can't be beat (except maybe by float tube). My brother and I can pack our 2 - 9' pontoon boats into his Toyota Corolla.
  7. This happened at Maligne Lake in Jasper, Now I've been to Maligne a few times, and I'm ready to launch but some guy is packing/unpacking his boat at the launch preventing anyone else from launching (narrow launch), I got po'd after having driven 5 hrs and now having to wait for buddy guy, so I carefully backed alongside him. He was eyeballin' me pretty good/givin me the evil eye, to make sure I didn't scratch his truck. I launched and was in/out and on the water fishing and he was still blocking the launch. :$*%&:
  8. True story. Musta blown in from someone/somewhere in the cul-de-sac. To answer some questions. No, I didn't smoke it, sell it, give it away or put it in brownies.... Don A is trading me a bamboo rod for it though , j/k cops came, took statement from wife and hauled the contraband away.
  9. I've never used any 'patches' as they've always just been 'pinholes' and so I've used both the Loon PT boat repair or the Aquaseal for my boats. Have never had any issues.
  10. My Cousin is a beekeeper and has told me before soap/water does the trick.
  11. Good read Tex.. I had a somewhat, though much less serious situation happen to me. I'm right handed and I got a barbed (shhhhh !!) pumpkinhead embedded in the top of my right hand on the Forward cast once, When I looked at it, it was kinda surreal, no real pain, just some discomfort, but like you, I was miles away from somewhere, and do I leave to seek medical attention. Nah ! I'll try pulling it out myself. I couldn’t pull it out due to the barb so I had to push the point up through the skin and then debarb, then push it back down through the skin and was then able to pull the fly out of my hand. It was tough to do all this with only my left hand. There was more pain trying to pull the fly out, than the fly goin in. I think the trout must feel the same way.
  12. If hangin flies under an indi doesn't work, try pulling streamers..
  13. I've fished for tigers in Saskatchewan at a few different lakes. I've read that they can be aggressive, but honestly, I haven't experienced that. If anything, I think quite the opposite (they're partly browns as you know) so they can be wary/finicky. The ones I've caught have all been caught by stripping in streamers on a sink-tip or full sink. Others have been successful hanging flies under an indicator, but I haven't tried this as I don't care too much for the method. I would say fish for them the same way you would fish for any other trout, be it, browns, rainbows or brookies. Hope that helps, Best of luck.
  14. I did get a chance to fish with my father quite alot, and even with my grandfather, though I don't remember much, just that I did. I know how you feel, last summer my son caught his 1st ever fish. and this year.
  15. Seriously ?? I think most of us have numerous peripherals attached to our machines. Friggin MS.... Get your sheit together.. I had 'reserved' a copy, but haven't installed it yet (thankfully). I think I will pass on the 'upgrade' and wait for the next version.
  16. Quote from article link below: "The strict price controls that are prevalent throughout the fly fishing industry, stifle a fly shop’s ability to sell product. Nearly all, if not all, premium fly fishing manufacturers have strict marketing policies". end quote. https://www.anglingtrade.com/2011/04/05/big-box-wholesaler-costco-plays-dirty-%E2%80%93-aiming-low-prices-on-top-brands-to-lure-fly-fishermen/ Read the article, but most importantly read the comments below to get a good insight into this market.
  17. Your vehicle license, registration and Passport are the same, I was once almost barred from entering a foreign country because I hadn't signed my passport.
  18. I'll be 48 next month, and I can empathize with all of what Rick has written, except he left 1 thing out, the 'eyes'. After rounding 40, my eyesight quickly and very noticeably went downhill at an alarming rate. I find that in the 2'-3' range, I can't see. Either with my glasses or without. My optometrist has told me I should think about bi-focals. Perish the thought. Now I find myself taking my glasses off +20 times a day so I can read up close. When I'm fishing, I havta pull them off so I can tie a bloody fly on. I just have to be careful I don't drop them in the water when I'm out on my 'toon.
  19. agree with what most have said, expensive. I also think the way they bar-code their flies is ridiculous. Havta put a bar-code on every darn fly. no wonder the files are expensive when you gotta pay somebody to bar-code them all. Just silly.
  20. I'm actually headed down in 2 weeks time to San Jose Del Cabo. Research shows it's not the ideal time of year to fish for them, but as others have said, they're always present but not in big numbers. The surf in front of my hotel is quite big, and you can't swim there so I'll be forced to try in the early am or late evening from the beach hopefully when the waves die down a bit. Failing that I'll charter a panga for the day while the wife is at the spa.. will likely book through Gordo Banks pangas. I'll post upon my return.
  21. Thanks for this info. Going down next month and will try to set something up with these guys. Bring your own gear ? I've sent an e-mail off asking if they have FF gear. Reading his recent fishing reports, the action isn't great, but as expected.
  22. My wife is running Nokian Hakkapellitta dedicated winters on her van and we like em. We bought them through Kal Tire. Price was comparable to everywhere else. On my jeep, I am also running Cooper AT/W as mentioned above. They are a hybrid tire (All-Terrain + snowflake symbol). I believe you can only buy these (AT/W) from Canadian Tire. They had a sale, buy 3, get 4th free like other tire shop promotions. I've had them on an entire year now, and I think they're o.k. My gas mileage has gone down a couple m/p/g though, perhaps due more from going from No-Seasons to All Terrain, but also because to get these tires, I had to get oversized from stock tires. They are quiet though. My co-worker has the regular Cooper AT/3 and we both seem to think there is more side-to-side motion than other tires.
