  7. Don : it's just a rating, after you reach a certain number of posts it changes, it's similar to a rank in the military or police force ie private , captain etc
  8. this has been discussed a few times already now http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...shing+etiquette http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...etiquette\ http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...etiquette\ http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...etiquette\ http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...etiquette\ that should get you started welcome to the board
  9. I don't go there, get enough laughs elsewhere LOL
  10. where is this from?
  11. Chances are you have a materelli style tool, as for the size I personally can use a very small one and i have a fairly large hand myself. When I hold mine I only hold it with my thumb and index finger. How do you hold yours?
  12. Which tool do you have?
  13. Definately salt water hooks you got there, I'm guessing that you would need to set the hook much harder than normal has this is a fairly heavy hook. I would suggest trying Mustad 9671 or 9672, to start with based on the length of flies you say you are tying. The hooks you have would be ok for pike flies if you are into that sort of thing or salt water salmon, which I tie on occasion. Hope this helps
  14. You are too vague in the description, how long is the wing/tail, what hooks are you tying on etc? This extra info will help in figuring out what the problem could be.
  15. Interesting comment, if one has time one should look up who really started all this "green" movement. Some real eye opening stuff if you look far enough and it may surprise you. Look up a fellow named Maurice Strong and see where it leads you
  16. When it comes to materials cheaper is not the best way to go in most circumstances
  17. Anyone of our sponsor fly shops should be able to help you out
  18. Whip finishing shouldn't be much of a problem. Care must be taken not to cut the thread on the cone, going slower than you normally would should help. As for cement I would recommend not using it but waxing the thread before whip finishing should be ok for holding the thread locked. With practice you'll get it.
  19. Thread has run it's course.
  20. By law, national parks are protected for public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment while being maintained in an unimpaired state for our children. To that end, Parks Canada is mandated first to protect the ecological integrity and secondarily to allow the public to explore, learn about and enjoy our natural spaces. The parks are for people but not at the expense of other species. With that said the system is seriously flawed
  21. Agree with you here on this. I think everyone should read a recently released book by Peter Dettling from Canmore "The Will of the Land" ; it makes a strong case for what is wrong with how human intervention is deterimental to the natural order of things. This book focuses on the wolf and bear populations of the Bow Valley, Banff and Jasper NP but the content is also relevant to issues being discussed here.
  22. Looks to me that the first one is tied backwards, other than that they look pretty good
  23. this should get you started http://flyfishcalgary.com/hatch_chart.php
