  1. Sad to hear. Michelle and Armand were always great to deal with!
  2. I like the idea of a paid permit system. We could hire more CO's as well as give them a reason to enter campsites to check permits and enforce violations. I also think it would keep a lot of people from random camping in the first place if they had to pay for either a daily, weekly or seasonal permits. Mainly I like the idea because we need more CO's in Alberta and this would be a good way to pay for them.
  3. I've brought two boats back and its really simple. Keep your records of negotiation, have the title in hand and you are good to go. Then within 6 months you have to get an RIV inspection done on the boat trailer at Canadian Tire. The only thing they seemed concerned with at the border is having proof of purchase price and thats it.
  4. Anyone on FFC hunt migratory? If so I would like to get out on some hunts over the next couple months if anyone is looking for a hunting partner send me a PM. I have a 1 year old brittish lab pup I'm training and would like to get out lots this year. I have layout blinds, lots of duck and goose decoys as well. I know this is a FF forum but though I'd put a feeler out to see if I can find some new hunting partners.
  5. From the fly line --> 4-5ft Maxima 8lb to a swivel --> 6lb Maxima to first fly --> 4lb Maxima the second fly --> 3lb Maxima to bottom fly - Then you can either attach split shot above the swivel to prevent it from sliding down or use a drop shot below your bottom fly. - I like to attach the 6,4,3 lb lines with surgeons knots leaving 4-6 inches of the tag end on each knot to attach my flies to so they have a more natural drift. More time consuming but worth it. - I fish Maxima exclusively when nymphing on the Bow because the fish in the Bow warrant it and I don't like losing flies.
  6. Nissan and GMC are both coming out with "ecodiesel" options later this year as well. Nissan is releasing a cummins 5.0 and the GMC is going to be releasing a 1/4 ton Duramax 2.4 I think. Might be worth waiting for if you are looking for any towing capability. The plus side of a truck is you can add a tonneau cover and never have to worry about stinking up the cab of your vehicle with wet fishing gear.
  7. I have a five of his rods now. Its really nice dealing locally so you don't have to wait for 6 weeks to get warrantee issues resolved and its much cheaper. If you are like me and like to fish streamers with a 2wt this is especially important.
  8. I just picked up a Pieroway Element 2wt 7'3 and I love it. They also have an Element 3wt 8'6 that I checked out in the shop that looks sweet! Personally I would highly recommend the 2wt for just over $200 its a great stick and makes for lots of fun on small streams. Even on windy days it holds up great and I've even thrown some decent streamers with it!
  9. Not bidding on #2 tested every ounce of will power in my body! I recently bought a house and I've been sitting here thinking about whether or not my wife would kill me if I put in a bid! You got a great deal Smitty and your dad is going to love that hunt!
  10. Pack a Mossberg 500 12g pistol grip on your pack and no one will bother you.
  11. Yeah for sure a good thing to have just wondering out of all the guys on this forum I would think someone may have used it at some point.
  12. x2 on the extra plug! Terrible thing not to have when your buddy tries to be helpful and shears it off by over tightening it. Also TP in a ziplock, axe, spare oar, slingshot, flashlight, lighter and something very combustable to keep things interesting. What kind of boat did you get?
  13. You could always buy from a local rod company and save time and money.
  14. I have a friend who recently bought a 16' Tracker Grizzly Jet Sled and we're trying to set it up with an anchor system, oar lock sockets, oarlocks and oars. Any recommendations of what others are using would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I was out a couple weeks ago when a storm came in and I actually got zapped by my rod on the walk back to the truck. I dropped it and kind of just stared at it trying to decide if I should just leave it there. I picked it up and continued back but I think next time soon as I see any sign of lightning I will tear my rod down before I start walking.
  16. I floated a few times last year when it was running around 350 and we were catching fish but it was fast and you have to be very cautious. Make sure you have a good long anchor rope and a heavy anchor. There will be lots of new obstacles in the river. Im very interested to see what kind of strange things we are going to find and float over in the river!
  17. I find if I keep my boots a little looser than usual it helps quite a bit. I also wear wool socks.
  18. It may be the dark side but it sure can be fun. I hooked a pike on a perch imitation popper I got at the fishin hole a couple years ago. On the first take the pike scared me so bad my hook set was a little too aggressive and I missed him so I quickly roll casted the popper back to where the pike rose and he grabbed it again then broke me off a short while later. Until that day I had never been a fan of fly fishing for pike or fishing for pike in general. I used to always tell people a guy can go out and catch 10 trout and go home without smelling like fish but if you catch 1 bloody pike you smell like fish for a week! Now my views have changed and I figure its ok to smell like fish every now and then.
  19. I like the sierra drifters strike indicator they sell at wholesale which are pretty much a thingamabobber with the screw on top. Super easy to adjust on the go the only con is they still kink your line about as much as a regular thingamabobber.
  20. I have a few old cigar boxes I lined with foam that have held up pretty good and keep flies from getting "flattened"

  22. You could also buy a pay and talk cell phone from Macs and have it for 911 purposes only.
