  1. Has anyone here ever had to use bear spray?
  2. x2 on the extra plug! Terrible thing not to have when your buddy tries to be helpful and shears it off by over tightening it. Also TP in a ziplock, axe, spare oar, slingshot, flashlight, lighter and something very combustable to keep things interesting. What kind of boat did you get?
  3. You could always buy from a local rod company and save time and money.
  4. I was out a couple weeks ago when a storm came in and I actually got zapped by my rod on the walk back to the truck. I dropped it and kind of just stared at it trying to decide if I should just leave it there. I picked it up and continued back but I think next time soon as I see any sign of lightning I will tear my rod down before I start walking.
  5. I floated a few times last year when it was running around 350 and we were catching fish but it was fast and you have to be very cautious. Make sure you have a good long anchor rope and a heavy anchor. There will be lots of new obstacles in the river. Im very interested to see what kind of strange things we are going to find and float over in the river!
  6. I like the sierra drifters strike indicator they sell at wholesale which are pretty much a thingamabobber with the screw on top. Super easy to adjust on the go the only con is they still kink your line about as much as a regular thingamabobber.
  7. I have a few old cigar boxes I lined with foam that have held up pretty good and keep flies from getting "flattened"
  8. http://theintelhub.com/2013/01/17/scottish-engineers-synthesize-clean-fuel-using-just-air-and-water/
  9. You could also buy a pay and talk cell phone from Macs and have it for 911 purposes only.
  10. I have video of it but didn't take any pictures unfortunately. I'll have to figure out how to take a still frame out of the video. I am mostly just curious about how big they actually can get?
  11. Awesome pictures and some very nice fish! Thanks for posting. I was out a few times when I was home from work and got into lots of fish but nothing with much size to it. My wife was out with me the one day and pulled a really nice 20' Rainbow out like it was no big deal which was awesome. The biggest fish I managed was a 23' whitefish. I never really think about measuring whitefish but 23' seems like it must be up there as far as whitefish go? Has anyone else ever measured big whitefish they have caught?
  12. Actually just found out tonight that Bigelow quit releasing last saturday so I'm not planning on going now.
  13. Looking for some company on Thursday out at the Bigelow pheasant release site. Leave Calgary around 630-7am and hunt until we have our limit. I have one trained english springer spaniel so as long as you are safe with a gun and won't shoot me or my dog give me a call or PM. 587 433 2878.
  14. I like the Brad Pitt move at 1:30
  15. Nice little talabow!
  16. Do you find you catch less pike using leech patterns? Last time I was out there I took my GF and we caught nothing but pike except for one small walleye. We were just using a variation of double bunny patterns. It was pretty funny because my GF could only cast the sink tip about 15 feet and she caught 3 pike. Just curious if the key for walleye is using smaller patterns?
  17. Agreed. I had no idea Fish and Wildlife went undercover.
  18. I've solved the problem. Buy Korkers and wear one felt studded sole and one rubber studded sole then you get the best of both worlds..
  19. Just when I thought fly fishing couldn't get any more hipster! Jk looks like fun I can definitely see the appeal. Very neat how compact they are I watched a few videos on youtube looks like it could be a blast.
  20. He could have at least lied and said SJW like everyone else does!
  21. I understand what your saying but at the same time the river has to accomodate a lot of boats these days. I put in at FC last week and there were 10 boats at the launch 8am on a Monday! I personally don't fish or drift very often on weekends to avoid this kind of traffic but it seems that I'm seeing more and more and more and more boats on weekdays now. For this reason I don't think that it is always possible to be completely respectful of every boat on the Bow due to the amount of boats on the water sometimes. A guy has to make an honest effort to be courteous and try to switch sides to avoid these kinds of situations but sometimes it just isn't feasible. My pet peeve is when you stop to get out and walk a particular stretch only to have three boats blow right over the stretch you are walking. i think the guys fishing from the banks deserve the most respect when you are passing by in a drift boat as they may have driven and walked a long ways to get there. Only exception to this rule is gear guys....jk
  22. Best thing to stop the pain of a pepper spray burn is milk or any dairy product. Maybe not good to pour it in your eyes but its the only thing that will take the burn away from the skin. I had a guy on a seismic crew who sprayed himself once and I sent him to the river to rinse off and it actually made it worse. After talking with the ER doc about it he told me always treat a pepper spray burn with dairy as soon as possible. Hopefully you don't spray yourself again and need this advice but just an FYI
  23. Nice stick! I just got mine today as well. I went with the 10' 5wt tactical series. I took it out and casted it a bit in the park and now I can't wait to get out on the river with it. I'll post a picture here soon as well to show the handy work. Geoff does a really good job I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out!
