  1. I have video of it but didn't take any pictures unfortunately. I'll have to figure out how to take a still frame out of the video. I am mostly just curious about how big they actually can get?
  2. Awesome pictures and some very nice fish! Thanks for posting. I was out a few times when I was home from work and got into lots of fish but nothing with much size to it. My wife was out with me the one day and pulled a really nice 20' Rainbow out like it was no big deal which was awesome. The biggest fish I managed was a 23' whitefish. I never really think about measuring whitefish but 23' seems like it must be up there as far as whitefish go? Has anyone else ever measured big whitefish they have caught?
  3. Actually just found out tonight that Bigelow quit releasing last saturday so I'm not planning on going now.
  4. Looking for some company on Thursday out at the Bigelow pheasant release site. Leave Calgary around 630-7am and hunt until we have our limit. I have one trained english springer spaniel so as long as you are safe with a gun and won't shoot me or my dog give me a call or PM. 587 433 2878.
  5. I like the Brad Pitt move at 1:30
  6. Do you find you catch less pike using leech patterns? Last time I was out there I took my GF and we caught nothing but pike except for one small walleye. We were just using a variation of double bunny patterns. It was pretty funny because my GF could only cast the sink tip about 15 feet and she caught 3 pike. Just curious if the key for walleye is using smaller patterns?
  7. Agreed. I had no idea Fish and Wildlife went undercover.
  8. I've solved the problem. Buy Korkers and wear one felt studded sole and one rubber studded sole then you get the best of both worlds..
  9. I did it a month ago in 8 hours but the river was flowing three times what it is now. I agree with tungsten that a longer float doesn't always mean more fish. Stopping and working good water usually adds quite a few fish to your day. Yesterday FC to Mac was 10 hours with not a lot of stopping.
  10. Just when I thought fly fishing couldn't get any more hipster! Jk looks like fun I can definitely see the appeal. Very neat how compact they are I watched a few videos on youtube looks like it could be a blast.
  11. He could have at least lied and said SJW like everyone else does!
  12. I understand what your saying but at the same time the river has to accomodate a lot of boats these days. I put in at FC last week and there were 10 boats at the launch 8am on a Monday! I personally don't fish or drift very often on weekends to avoid this kind of traffic but it seems that I'm seeing more and more and more and more boats on weekdays now. For this reason I don't think that it is always possible to be completely respectful of every boat on the Bow due to the amount of boats on the water sometimes. A guy has to make an honest effort to be courteous and try to switch sides to avoid these kinds of situations but sometimes it just isn't feasible. My pet peeve is when you stop to get out and walk a particular stretch only to have three boats blow right over the stretch you are walking. i think the guys fishing from the banks deserve the most respect when you are passing by in a drift boat as they may have driven and walked a long ways to get there. Only exception to this rule is gear guys....jk
  13. Best thing to stop the pain of a pepper spray burn is milk or any dairy product. Maybe not good to pour it in your eyes but its the only thing that will take the burn away from the skin. I had a guy on a seismic crew who sprayed himself once and I sent him to the river to rinse off and it actually made it worse. After talking with the ER doc about it he told me always treat a pepper spray burn with dairy as soon as possible. Hopefully you don't spray yourself again and need this advice but just an FYI
  14. Nice stick! I just got mine today as well. I went with the 10' 5wt tactical series. I took it out and casted it a bit in the park and now I can't wait to get out on the river with it. I'll post a picture here soon as well to show the handy work. Geoff does a really good job I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out!
  15. I like that explanation the best so far.
  16. I was out in my fiberglass drift boat yesterday floating down the river and I noticed a very strange snap crackle pop sound coming from the bottom of my boat. The sound came and went a few times and would progressively get louder then subside. It almost sounded like an AM radio static. So I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced this or knows what it is? There was a bit of a thunderstorm going on and I'm wondering if that may have had something to do with it or am I just paranoid?
  17. Haha ok so this got a little heated and yeah I didn't mean to stir the pot asking about anchor chains just thought there might be a few guys out there who use them. I guess I'll just give it a try and see how it works and if it doesn't work as good as my old Hyde issued anchor did then I'll pick up a new anchor.
  18. So you use one? The guy that gave it to me says it stops the boat fast so I can't see how it could be worse than an anchor that leaves 30lb's of lead in the water or that is too light and drags excessively? Technically speaking wouldnt any anchor used during spawning season be a bad anchor?
  19. I bought a Pieroway Element 9' 6wt last year and really like it. I haven't managed to break it yet so I can't offer up any warranty experience but what I will say about Pieroway Rod Company is this. When I first moved to Calgary a few years ago Brad from Pieroway volunteered to take me out for a walk and wade and taught me a lot about fishing the Bow. The whole day on the river he never tried to sell me anything instead just helped point me in the right direction with my casting and taught me a lot of techniques that would have taken me a long time to learn on my own. I personally believe they make a pretty solid product and do their part to promote fly fishing locally. I fish a Sage Launch 9' 6 weight and a Pieroway Element 9' 6 weight and I definitely favor the Pieroway. My Sage Launch caused me lots of problems last year. I had to send it for repair three times. First the reel seat broke and then I broke two blanks later in the year. One blank broke on a roll cast and one broke when I had a fish on. Each time the warranty work took between 4-6 weeks which is really annoying in peak season. I understand the Launch is not an expensive Sage rod but it's the most expensive rod I own and its the only one of my 6 rods I've ever broken. Anyhow I guess all I'm getting at is that I stand behind my Pieroway Element and I think it's a great rod for the money.
  20. I just bought another drift boat down in Washington and the guy gave me an anchor chain which he claims works very well although I haven't gotten to try it out yet. It would be very simple to make and easy to adjust for the different river conditions throughout the year. Heres a link in case you haven't seen one. http://www.miriverworks.com/anchors.htm
  21. since it has pedals do you have to register and insure it?
  22. Do drift boats have serial numbers? I've looked everywhere on my Hyde and can't find one.
  23. Thanks for all the good info guys. I put a deposit on a 2010 Lavro PFD 15' so I'll be going to get it soon. Now I just gotta find a new home for my Hyde.
  24. Thanks Dutchie I appreciate it! That seems like it shouldn't be too hard. Maybe I'll take a tent in case I screw up and have to stay an extra day or two to sort things out.
