  1. SA GPX Great in all conditions. Low memory and I have fished mine for many winters without problems.
  2. Being a teacher, I miss snow days! Nice to have the odd day off mid week. As far as snow and shoveling, I scrape snow here, not shovel. Clearing the driveway in Cape Breton after snow storms was an hour job minimum. Mind you, there was no -49 with windchill. Remember 3 weeks ago fellas?
  3. No problems with mine. Love the PVR and HD!
  4. Kelly Gallop had a great informative presentation at the Expo. Learned a few things that I plan to practice. As what others have said, the sink tip is great on the Bow. I am due to pick up a new one in the near future. I fish streamers, often double rigs when in the pontoon, with a 7 wt. sage VPS and a SA wt tip express. It is a 15 foot head. I am going 25 next time for some of the reasons Russ had mentioned. I only use 12-18" leader, staight 10 or 12 lb. Maxima. Longer leaders defeat the purpose of the sink tip and you get a belly in the line with your fly up and not in the hot zone. IMO I think I read in a McLennan book that when Lefty Kreh fished the Bow he only used a 10-12" leader. I also like the advice on unweighted streamers. I tie all my own flies and have in the past weighted to heavy. Gets it down all right but sometimes to much makes it act unnatural. I now tie with a variety of weights. You will like the streamers and sink tip when the Bow is completing run off. Big browns on the banks!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. If you could find a discontinued XP go for it. For those waters mentioned, and the Bow, I fish a 8'6 4wt. XP and love it. Matched with a Galvan torque rell and a SA GPX. Probably about 1100 retail and I spent about 750 all in. I plan to fish this combo a lot this summer.
  6. Revolutionalized the game. 5 tool player plus 124 in a season 8 straight norris 2 scoring titles #4 Bobby Orr Also loved Clark and Neely. Am also a big fan of Shannahan.
  7. Calgary might make a deal with the Habs but, it sure will not include Kovalev. Once the habs punted Samsonov look at AK now!
  8. Had a good time at the expo as well. Made it out saturday around noon. Just landed in time to take in an informative presentation hosted by Kelly Gallop on streamer techniques. Learned a few things that I will try on the ol bow. Interesting how he pushes BIG ASSED FLIES. Colin McQ ( Canadian flyFisher) did a similar presentation a few years ago and preached the same thing. I wonder why almost all my streamers are size 2! Bought a Simms Windstopper half price and talked to Jim McLennan and bought the new book with his johnhenry. Nice living in Cranston for proximity to the Bow and Spruce Meadows for the show.
  9. 10 years fishing since I moved out west. 1 check on the Bow while floating, 2 on the crow, and 1 on the upper Oldman. Good to see them out.
  10. Check the schedule for presentaions online or with the program you get when you pay your entrance fee. It will list times and locations of the free presentations, fly tying demos, etc.
  11. Birchy, if you can, take in Jim's presentation on the Bow. Free ( I think). I saw/heard it twice and it is excellent with a great slide show. Own all the books and will add the new one saturday.
  12. I am down a grand! With weather this one out.
  13. Ross, as many have mentioned make a high quality reel. I have a Cimmaron2 and a spare spool for over 7 years. Thet were about 220 bucks back then but I see they are around 140 now. Well worth it. I do fish Galvan reels now and like them more. however, they were in the 350 range.
  14. Think of it this way. Your dog just increased in value big time! Or maybe not.....
  15. Those will fool them for sure. love them on the crow a week or two after runoff when there is still a bit of dirt and faster flows.
  16. Depends on your rod holder. Mine are Scotty's and my 7 wt VPS has a butt and fits in the holder fine.
  17. I have also been SPINNING a lot on the vice the past few evenings. Bow River buggers, and tonite I start some hoppers ( whitlock style). The spinning hair is messy I tell ya. But, they are great flies. Got about 200 done this winter of various patterns so another 100 would be a good goal.
  18. Now that really sucks!! I always said I hate a thief. Sorry to hear your news. If these guys are repeat offenders I certainly hope they throw the book at em. But, alas, this is Canada (great hockey programs) and they will probably get a slap on the wrist! Keep us updated on the ass----s who did this.
  19. Ah come on Harry, you and I both know Capers know nothing about booze!!!!!!! Typed as I sip on a cold Keith's.
  20. Hey Bloom The 2 new bottles are: Glenfiddich 15 year Glenlivit 15 year The first bottle I personally bought was a year ago and it is 12 year Glenlivit and I can'y say I aquired a taste for this STUFF yet. Perhaps, a few of the occasions I poured one I had a few too many of the wobbly pops prior to savor and enjoy. Out of the 2 new bottles, which one do you all recommend I crack first being an amatuer at this game?
  21. Hey Bloom. Got a few nice bottles from Santa. May have to take one alonng for the next elk/Wigwam trip. I still need to have a few Keith's for back up.
  22. Well I can cross this place off the list after the snake info. Scared to death!!!
  23. That last pic is great.
  24. Nice gift. First class of Jim. Merry Christmas all. Rob Walker
  25. I have owned 5 SA GPX and they are all great. Looking at a Sharkskin 5 wt floater myself.
