  1. Now theres a boat for the Bow.
  2. You can get littlest Hobo on DVD now. Chapters and Amazon have it
  3. Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of two surfaces in contact or a surface in contact with a fluid (e.g. air on an aircraft or water in a pipe). So yes air over the top of a pop can creates noise due to friction, friction creates vibrations in the pop can which we hear as sound. Your both right. Interesting thought max about the line rubbing on the guides it must transfer some energy away from the line to the rod. I wonder if the amount of energy lost is not made up for by the amount of energy conserved on the pick up of the line. Less energy on the back cast vs a little energy lost when shooting.
  4. I realize it they aren't truely articulated but I was inspired by a recent article in Fly Fusion on stretch floss so I came up with these two flies. both are very flexible and you could conceivably tie them as long as you want. Both are using #8 hook I use for stonefly nymphs Daiichi 11??, and some stretchy red stuff furled. 1 Red (midge?) stretch floss. ~3" 2 Stretch Flex Rouge 1/8". ~5" They represent my 2nd and 3rd attempt at furling (is that a word?) anything. More to show the concept and I don't think the trout will care. Never fished them but I suspect they will get horribly tangled around my leader and/or dropper.
  5. Beautiful photos. Trip of a lifetime for sure. Those pictures of cod make me miss home. Going to have to try for some cod on the fly rod when I go home in a few weeks.
  6. or i will never get to touch my vise again
  7. After harassing my wife about not having a hobby (really bad idea for any men considering it) I decided I should share one of mine with her and as it was 10pm and we couldn't just go get her a license and go fishing, I decided to introduce her to fly tying. As I already had all the gear out and easily accessable I thought I would start with some marabou streamers I had been playing with. I call them bloody cream puffs. Here are our efforts: Hers: Mine:
  8. Classic. Welcome to the board, you managed to do what most have trouble with post a picture in your first post.

    Muddler

Nice flies. i don't haven't anything to suggest as I have never even tried a muddler due to my dislike of spinning deer hair.
  10. Thanks everyone who tied flies for the side bet. Wow what a collection I received.
  11. Those are amazing shots. I have an S1 IS and keep thinking I should upgrade but the pictures that I take with it are as good as I can hope for. The S5 looks sweet.
  12. Fished with a vest exclusively up until this year when I switched to carrying a pack and dropping it when I get to a spot I want to fish. Mostly due to the fact the pack gives me somewhere to carry my other rod.
  13. I was up with my son Saturday morning and got a chance to watch it for the first time. Really liked the variation of the mickey fin that they did.
  14. Word. Our CBA is up and they are renegotiating it right now. The province offered us a ~4% per year for the next 4 yrs, we countered with 9%, 8% and 8%. Personally I think stelmachs 34% sounds a lot better. In the end we are unlikely to cover the cost of living increases over the next 3 years.
  15. I was thinking seeing as many of us give up on the Bow for a few weeks during run off that I would suggest having a fly tying evening. I was thinking of this coming Saturday the 31st at my place. Possible theme of big dark colored bugs suitable for high/muddy water conditions, but tie what you like. And if the weather is decent we could hit the bow on Sunday and try out our creations.
  16. The Orvis catalog has got to be one of the most dangerous pieces of literature around. I find things on every page that i would like to buy most of which I didn't even know I needed.
  17. Saw these in the orvis catalog they look nice never actually used any of them. But they are orvis so maybe they will even come in a shiny orvis box. Orvis - Dog Gates and Crates
  18. ooh ooh me me please. btw what do we use buffalo for?
  19. I second this suggestion they have very good service and they found a pair of shoes for me for work which have been excellent. I even had them suggest that they would give me the correct sizing and I could go find shoes elsewhere if I wanted.
  20. Thats awesome I can't wait for my little guy to be old enough to go fishing. Nice fish too.
  21. Red Wings in 7. I don't like them but I think they are the superior team here.
  22. The only thing I would add is watch the posts in the Fishing Get Togethers on this forum and try to hook up with one of the board members might help a little at least with access points. A trip with Max is money well spent. Oh and welcome to the board.
  23. Get well soon Jim. Hopefully fishing can be worked into your recovery plan.
  24. I gotta say practice. When I first started casting 2 nymph rigs I would get the biggest tangles and lots of them. Now I get only a few tangles per trip and they seem to be mostly of the easy to undo variety. I probably just horribly jinxed myself. 2 is definately easier than 3 and when it is windy (always blame the wind cause it is the problem ) I will mostly do 2 nymph rigs.
