  1. It will be an awesome big hole for tearing around in quads ripping up every piece of vegetation available
  2. Cool. Congrats on accomplishing an interesting goal. Sure is lots of blue on her operculum spreading even under the eye. "Snags" that move are always good!! Looks pretty close to 31"
  3. Cabelas 5mm are not too bad and they are pretty cheap. Base layer of polyester under a pair of fleece wading pants is a good idea for April/ice-out tubing. I've found April tubing is a lot colder than wading around in the river. Do you float tube screaminreel? Fish cat 4 gets your butt up out of the water more and is way better for retaining heat than the old tubes
  4. Here is a crazy idea that I use. 6lb maxima for dry fly fishing (fits in my #18 BWO). 12lb maxima for streamer fishing. 10lb Fluoro for all my stillwater fishing. When nymphing in the Bow with big worms and stoneflies I have used 10-14lb mono. And surprising I have still caught fish and land them quickly with essentially no break offs. Try it out
  5. A corkie and nymph might come in handy if it's cold
  6. Quite the carpet up in Bowness I hear
  7. I do things a bit differently in that my split shot is placed between my flies. It is my feeling that the split shot is on the bottom, while the unweighted flies are off the bottom. I will add another split shot in fast, deep water. Unfortunately I haven't read any fly fishing books so I'm just winging it. I guess when it stops working I will have these other suggestions to fall back on
  8. Nicely done Sir. Enjoyed the views and the relaxing tunes. We need that for a friend of ours so we can radio him when his bobber goes down...he never pays attention
  9. I'm so crusty I haven't nymphed since March. I'll try a new fly and move my wine cork a couple of feet if I ever try bobber fishing again. Thanks for spurring me on to change.
  10. In 2ft of water the flies just drag behind the indicator 7ft or so...they are bouncing along the bottom until a fish eats them, indicator moves, we catch a fish. I couldn't be bothered chasing my indicator depth 7000x a day for every depth of water change. I am OK with the angle of leader between bobber and flies changing, it doesn't have to be near vertical to work. I'm not saying that a 9ft leader is the way to go all the time....but it is for me and the guys I fish with. You guys should do everything it says in the Official Fly Fishing Book. I am always moving when stream fishing so the water depth is always changing. You won't find me camped at a run/hole for the whole day with the perfect depth figured out casting for 5 hours.
  11. For the past 25 years or so my friends and I have stuck with 9ft and never change it. We've caught a couple doing this
  12. Ah release sites, bring hockey helmet with visor and a kevlar vest. Took my young daughter for a tour one day to work the dog. As we are walking around, the truck showed up and drove out in the field. When he released the birds some guys jumped up out of a ditch close to where he parked and started blasting them. Pre-planned hide and wait for the truck. True sportsman they were !
  13. Found these growths on the stems of submerged plants the other day. Thinking they may be algae. They are quite stiff. Anyone know?
  14. I just showed my pointer this info and she says let's go get some chickens/ditch parrots! They're good practice for the real birds Murray I think SilverDoctor wants all your hides
  15. Water is cooling, fish will soon be in serious hunting mode for a month or so. Then the water starts to get really cool and things taper off again. Lake fishing in August at low altitudes can be a huge struggle. Police is polluted with fish, that would be a great place to do some fishing. I think June is the best month for lake fishing No Brent I have never been to Mr. Spock's pond. Sounds like there be whales there though.
  16. Public lake, not catch and release, lots of food available, and proper stocking density. If you don't put a 100,000 fish in there are lots of bugs for the fish. Catch rates aren't fantastic, but the fish are fun. Experience helps with technique and fly selection. jgib01...if you want big fish in AB, I would go for a drive to SE Alberta. Beaver lake fish sound like they are getting over 20" as well
  17. Got a call from concerned resident about overweight inhabitants that have grown fat over the summer holidays...toad thinks they are too fat! Latest in toad tattoo (algae)
  18. Great shots Steve. Do you have a name for the big spotted brown...you must have a caught him a few times this year. Beautiful fat Cutts you are finding! Good to see you guiding the wife and the young fella.
  19. Took my son's girlfriend for her first creek walk to see some Cutts.
  20. Northfork, nice Bull in your avatar. I hear fishing at the mouth of creeks is good:)
  21. I believe this happens with a number of salmonids just prior to spawning. The hormones are raging, gonads are nearly full and behaviors start to change. I remembering fishing with a BC steelhead guy on the Bow one spring and he told me that when the fish start breaking the surface it was time to fish egg patterns. I would imagine there might be a few Bulls starting to make a some "test redds" already, but the peak is still about 3 wks away. One famous Bull stream has a closure in upper reaches starting Sept 1. That should tell you something
  22. Those darn fish-transporting birds are at it again. Bringing bass hundreds of kilometers to a lake right where there are cottages. Its truly amazing
  23. 5lb TOOOO FUNNNYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Really....I shouldn't respond aggressively to an aggressive dog? I own a big, powerful, well trained dog. If she was to act aggressively to someone I would pound her face in the dirt. If I have an encounter with an aggressive dog I think both of us are going to get very hurt. I am sick and tired of aggressive dogs that are out of their owner's control. I fish to relax, not to feel threatened. If you don't have control of your dog, and it has aggressive tendencies, please keep it on a leash.
