  1. You are correct but how many of the Bow river users have any experience with rapids......the Bow is a cake walk and if that's where you have learned to row you could be woefully unprepared for Harvey Passage. I have run the passage a few times and it is hard to traverse to say the least. The drops suck you back in hard, I think some will succeed in this, but beware it isn't a cake walk. Go fast and true, wear your pfds, secure your gear, drybag your phones and have a bailing system ready to go. Once you hit the first drop on the C2 side it is very difficult to row as the channel isn't wide enough to get a good stroke on your oars. Add in the drunks swimming in the area and you have the potential for seriously failing. I have yet to see an inflateable go through and keep all the occupants in place.
  2. Whos going to run it this year, i want to watch. I've been through the class ii section in both mine and anothers drifter. It isnt easy by any stretch of the imagination, as 420 said the drops suck you back in... HARD. Add the drunk swimmers and other users not getting out of the way and it is an adventure.
  3. This thread is awesome, we live in a city of 1,000,000 and we all have the right to use the water. If you can't fish successfully behind a jet, drifter, pontoon or walker go after cutthroat. This thread stinks of jealousy, i get low holed by each type of user almost every time i'm on the water... But i understand i'm lucky to be on the water.
  4. mahi mahi..... I hope to catch one some day. they are a beautiful fish.
  5. Nice natives... i really like the first bully
  6. Yes I have, it's called Fish Tales. Good read, good post DonGregorio
  7. Dude, you're a pretty big dude do you think you fit in that little boat pictured.....lol
  8. I know you guys are complaining about the gas prices and I do as well. But i'd like to see anything other than a real 4x4 travel in the country I have been roaming the last two weeks AND be able to pull a drifter....... out of the water. There's a lot of cars out there that will pull a drift boat but not many that could pull them out of the water & up the ramp. I drive a grand cherokee, big V8 gets 14ltr/100k. It will pull anything i own and will cut fresh tracks up the trunk road on april 1st, cost a bundle to fill it but i only use it on weekends for fishing. I think i'm going to try building a wood gasifier
  9. my company gets solicited all the time to buy domains. Running price is $385-$425.
  10. A line is going to cost you around $100. You aren't going to get anything decent for 200-300. My last spey setup was on the cheap and it was still around $650. when all said and done. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something but most used spey rods are at least $200.
  11. http://www.redington.com/Womens-Sonic-Pro-Wader.html, I think fishtales have these in stock
  12. I have a 42" 55lb Minkota on my 14.5" Skiff I've spun the head and the prop should be a foot under water. My boat has a crazy amount of rocker so I was concerned that the motor would fit. but it will work now that I have it on the boat. I think the longest shaft and most thrust availible is the way to go.
  13. don't let that stop you, nobody does
  14. Dave, I totally understand what you are saying and your insite on flyfishing NZ is backed by truth & experience that i think is probably unrivaled in our neck of the woods. My comment was on the production quality alone. I questioned several considerations like you have, prior to posting. I think all of your points are valid. As soon as I saw the crane I thought "you're not walking to far from the van with that thing". I'm not sure it will be good but the demise will be brought to us in 1920x1080 60fps HD.... and I hear rumours that some fishing films might get dropped in 3D.
  15. Good flick, it really gives you the idea that fly fishing films are headed into new uncharted waters of bigger budgets and professional levels of cinematography. I was stunned with the shots of the camera crane.... I guess your buddy following you with a handycam just doesn't cut it any more we're on the virtual cusp of a major improvement in fishing/outdoors media. Drew you're lucky, no iceshelfs to commit suiced on eh? Are you lucky enough to take your dog?
  16. done and done....sheesh
  17. well it didn't take long but those idiots have put up the gate again.....sheesh
  18. Max, great pics. Did you make those flower flys, they look pretty darn cool.
  19. i like the diaachii 1770 swimming nymph hook, the bend of the hook really makes it look like it's in movement. i don't think i've eyeballed a fish on that hook since i started using it for worms.
  20. Oh you'll get the invites.... wont be until june though I'm a little tied up until then and the boat is upside down in the garage.
  21. OK GOOD NEWS, and thank you everyone for your assistance. It was not CFD that put up the gate it was a contractor working on the condos. 311 busted thier butts and got Parks Alberta involved. Apparently Parks takes care of these types of issues, Parks had the gate removed yesterday I drove by it this morning and noticed it was gone. Minutes ago I recieved a call from Parks explaining that the contractor has been reported and will be fined for blocking access to a public green space. As well Parks was very unhappy that this had happened especially with the opening of the new Harvey Passage this spring (nice piece of info) and Ron, the area head for Calgary gave me his # and said it could be published. If you see the gate up call Ron @ 403.537.7571 Thanks everyone, it's nice to get something done
  22. 2 dozen please, the cheque is in the mail
  23. I'm not overly concerned about the parking aspect, I often do not park there. Put up some no parking signs and ticket violators, I just want to see access to the boat launch not restricted.
  24. No problem, I figured if we could get a ton of people calling this could be reversed, there wasn't much that I have done... more appropiately I should be thanking all of you, I drift the city section more than anyone I know. THANKS FOR THE HELP FFC, KEEP IT GOING
