  1. Still not a single fishing shop within 20 minutes of my place. I wish they'd build one in Westhills.
  2. MacTavish said he started JDD because he thinks it's good for a young goalie to get thrown into a road game right away. I guess it makes sense to play him early, it's better than letting him get stale in the press box/bench. That win should be great for his confidence. The Oilers powerplay is going to be so good this year, with Souray and Visnovsky at the point it's 'pick your poison' as Cammalleri said after the game. I didn't know Lubo had such a bullet of a shot until that Anaheim game. The kid line is unbelievable, with their chemistry it's like having 3 Sedin's. It's crazy that 2 of them are sophomores and they are just going to keep getting better. They will be scary good in a couple years. Teams like the flames are going to have a tough time handling the speed and creativity of the Oilers, they'll end up with penalty trouble in every BoA this year. Too bad nobody repeated Vandermeer's stupid mistake of picking a fight with Macintyre!
  3. Yeah I'm sure they'd like to dump Roloson, but I don't think any team would take on his contract at this point. Luckily he's only got one year left.
  4. Yeah Garon is definitely the real deal, they need to get him a new contract asap before his value sky rockets. It'll be interesting to see how the Deslauriers/Roloson situation plays out.
  5. That was a better win last night, they were dominated for the first half of the game but in the 3rd period they showed how good they will be when everyone is gelling. I love watching the 'kid line', the chemistry and speed they have is unreal. If this team can win in regulation by showing up for half a game I can't wait to see how they dominate when they play the full 60 minutes. Friday's game should be great if they keep that momentum up.
  6. Cool, makes me want to try steelheading.
  7. I can't get enough of this beat-down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et9u0mNLX0k The Battle of Alberta will be great this year!
  8. Good advice. It took me over 1 year of flogging the Bow before I caught a trout over 6".
  9. Where did you read this? After the 2005 floods the former Allan Bill pond is just a giant pool on the Elbow, so it just holds the fish species found in the Elbow river.
  10. The Libs have a stronghold out there 'cos everyone is still high on Trudeau They will talk the same way about a Conservative stranglehold of Alberta. But it seems to me that you get the same sh*t whether the Liberals or Conservatives win...I'm just gonna throw a vote to the Green party
  11. Here's to at least 20 more of those Hemmer to Horcoff goals this season Those new 3rd jerseys are beautiful, I'm gonna get me a Gagner
  12. "The ‘shift’ will transfer wealth from rich to poor, from the oil patch to the rest of the country, and from the coffers of big business to the pockets of low-income Canadians." So what's wrong with this idea exactly? Sending a chunk of Alberta's oil money to the other provinces might keep some easterners home
  13. It's true, there really is no balance in the world, that's what you get with us humans convinced that we run the show. It's really awful what happened to this man and I feel terrible for his family, but I guess destroy the bear was the easiest 'solution' to the problem. In cases like this the basic human reaction is always eye-for-an-eye.
  14. Could they not have just relocated the sow and her cubs? Although I guess that would require money, which Alberta's Fish and Wildlife branch doesn't have...
  15. And now I guess they're trying to decide what to do about the cubs. Killing their mother just made them more dangerous. This isn't as bad as the story I read last week of a cougar killed near Windermere. I guess some seniors were out walking their little dogs (a schnauzer and shitzu) when a cougar appears, snatches a dog and makes off with it. So CO's tracked down the cougar and killed it. Ridiculous.
  16. Kipper had no help last night, Calgary's d was completely outworked. The Canucks looked good, really fast. That was a very moving tribute to Luc Bourdon before the game, I was choking up a bit. Tomorrow's game should be a beauty!
  17. This guy who blogs on youtube has a good explanation for it, I think he's bang-on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI
  18. Deep into the tip of my middle finger with a bass popper. The anesthetic needle that was jabbed into my finger tip was definitely the most painful part of the ordeal.
  19. That's funny and sadly rings true. I grew up in the 90's and was lucky enough to find friends who, like me, had no interest in video games, and we would spend all our free time playing ball and ice hockey, throwing a football, chasing frogs and other critters, playing soccer, fishing and swimming, toboganning, etc. We were always playing out in the street, or at local fields and parks. Today the streets are empty as kids are inside with video games, tv shows like 'the OC' and 'the hills' and other MTV bullshit, only wandering outside when they are drunk and looking for trouble or looking for a concealed place to smoke weed.
  20. There is hip-hop out there that channels the spirit of the old soul/RnB you enjoy, like The Roots (they have a sick rhythm section that can play the tightest jazz/funk/RnB grooves), A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, De La Soul...I used to have the 'rap is not music' mindset until I heard guys like Hubert Sumlin and BB King give hip-hop props. The problem is there is a lot of garbage to wade through before you find the good stuff
  21. Yeah they are sick! Thickfreakness is also an awesome record from them, but The Big Come Up is my favourite, just good, raw, grungy garage-blues. They are a better duo than the White Stripes, imo
  22. The Roots, Blackalicious, GZA, RZA (you must have heard of Wu-Tang?), Dead Prez, etc. are real artists and some of the best hip-hop has to offer Good stuff Maxwell
