  1. I love MEC. Great gear at great prices, and they get bonus points for being a Canadian company.
  2. You won't hear me say this again, but for todays game against Vancouver, let's go Flames!
  3. Crazy how well the Oilers have played since I left the province. Young guns have brought them up to 2nd most goals-for in the Western conference, not bad for a team that people have been calling offensively challenged. Powerplay is clicking too. This is a team that has a very, very bright future.
  4. Beautiful shot. It's nice here in Costa Rica but I can't wait to get back to Alberta, I miss views like that.
  5. I won a subscription, recieved one issue, and then it stopped. This was in September I think.
  6. The one right downtown, on some corner. *hit and blood on the bathroom walls. I think that´s the central bathroom for Calgary´s hobo population.
  7. Seriously? I think it's one of the weakest comic strips I've ever read.
  8. http://garfieldminusgarfield.tumblr.com/ "Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolor disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against lonliness and methamphetamine addiction in a quiet American suburb." Who would have thought those comic strips would be a lot funnier without Garfield
  9. I'm with you man, Tim's coffee is mediocre at best. I gladly play the extra money for a Starbucks Americano when I want a good coffee. Taken black, the way coffee should be enjoyed. None of that 'double-double' b.s. for me
  10. I'm actually glad the Habs didn't get Hossa now, since apparently Atlanta was asking for 3 roster players and 1 prospect or pick. They are playing so well right now that a deal like that could really upset their chemistry. But losing Huet is a shame because a deep playoff run is just too much to ask from a rookie goaltender. Who knows though, stranger things have happened. By the way, is anyone else really glad to see Cooke gone from the Northwest division? I couldn't stand that guy.
  11. Don't expect a Flames cup run with their poor special teams and sketchy defense. Sutter should have done something, he got left in the dust by the other western teams.
  12. Pittsburgh gave up too much to rent Hossa, unless he takes them to the cup they'll end up regretting it. I'm not surprised at all that Lowe took the day off, Edmonton has the foundation for a very good team.
  13. Just heard about the Prospal deal now. Looks like a great deal for the Flyers. I'd like to see Hossa go to Montreal. I have feeling O. Jokinen will be a Flame tomorrow afternoon.
  14. Bump... So other than the Forsberg signing nothing notable has happened. Boyle is signed, Sundin is staying put, Tanguay isn't being shopped...if there isn't a blockbuster tomorrow this will be a pretty lame deadline.
  15. Thanks for the good tips everyone. I think I'm going to pick up a pack of swivels from Canadian Tire and try using them with my worm 'n bobber rigs.
  16. There are no fly shops within 15-20 minutes of my house, so tying allows me to make all the flies I need at home the night before a trip, and head straight to the river without any detours.
  17. I lift up fairly hard on every twitch. If it was a fish, the hook is set, if there's nothing there the rig falls in front of me and I just roll it out again. I set the hook once on nearly every drift. That may sound excessive but it works.
  18. When I fish 2-fly nymph rigs I like to place my weight between the 2 flies, but I find that after a few casts the split shot starts sliding down to the bottom fly, and constant time-consuming tinkering with the rig becomes necessary. So is there any way to prevent the split shot from sliding down to the bottom fly, without tying a knot in the tippet? I've tried putting a slipknot below the weight but I set the hook so frequently that the slipknot only lasts one or two drifts.
  19. That's awesome, it must have looked way different in those days. I've found some good little holes off the beaten path on that stretch, but it's hard to avoid running into people with a whole neighborhood there. So were brookies the predominant fish back then?

    Cowichan River

Nice pics dude, looks like a beauty river.
  21. It is pretty sad. Marshes where I chased frogs and salamanders as a kid near Sundance are now under concrete. It's heartbreaking just to see the change that has taken place along Highway 8 in the past 7 or 8 years. Makes you wonder when it'll ever stop. I wish I could have fished the land where Discovery Ridge and Elbow Valley are a decade ago. Ah well, no point crying over spilled milk I suppose. I still think it's a great place to live, and unless I win a few million in the lottery and can buy a few hundred secluded acres southwest of here, I'll stay put.
  22. Chocolate's good...I'm leaving in a week to go work on an organic farm in Costa Rica. Should be a fine time
  23. Nice tip Hawg. I've actually found that cleaning line too often reduces the life of fly line and results in cracking. I used to wash lines after almost every trip and they would never last more than a few months. Now I just give my 444 the odd rub-down with the Cortland cleaning pad and it has performed beautifully for a year, in various conditions and provinces, with no signs of wear.
