  1. I know this wasn't a very well controlled science experiment, but I fished the Bow a week ago Saturday (Sunny and 20) and only had 4X leader that after I lost a couple of hot fish that insta snapped me off I cut it back and tied some 3X tippet on. Another beaut snapped me off right on the take before I got a chunky fish to the net. I picked up some 2X leader and tippet this week and pontooned the same stretch of water on Friday (coudy and 13) with 5 fish to the net but nothing over 16. My rig was 2X mono leader, 2X floro tippet to the first fly, 3x floro t the second fly. My suspicion was that 2X was too heavy and that is why I didn't catch any big ones this time. Any thoughts on 2X vs 3X for Bow River nymphing. Thanks in advance.

  3. Looking to tie some copper johns and would like some opinions on what to use for the "epoxy" back. Old school pattern recipies call for mixing up a batch of 5 min epoxy. I am aware of the newer clearcuregoo products that use a uv light but have none of the above in my tying kit. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks. CC
  4. In the good karma move of the year, I got my rod back today. Thank you good sir.
  5. I lost a rod yesterday on the Bow near what I'm told is called "Guides Corner" (the river takes a 90 degree left turn). The rod is a blue Sage VT2 590 and it has a black Ross reel attached. The rod was lost on near the north side of the river and I'm guessing it won't move very far and when the water drops it will be found. With the water up so high I just didn't feel safe jumping in after it (although I consider it multiple times). Reward offered. Thanks. CC
  6. Good to meet you last night CJ. Here are a few of my favourite sites that we chatted about: http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/index.cfm - 173 patterns with step by step instructions. http://vimeo.com/channels/26394#26083157 - Richard Strolis' site, great videos. http://www.flyfishsd.com/fliesbytype.htm - my other favourite video site. See you on the water. CC PS if others have good sites feel free to chime in.
  7. I've recently been wondering what "catskill style" is. Any pointers? CC
  8. 123c Plugs go in the inside of the boat not the outside...
  9. Thanks for the input I will pick up a Hungarian partridge skin. Any idea where in town to find a starling skin? Thanks, CC
  10. I'm looking to pick up 2 or 3 types of feathers to start tying some soft hackle flies. Any recommendations on the type(s) to start with? Thanks for any help. CC
  11. I was lucky enough to have Charlie Craven set me up to start my tying, his skills are amazing. I also like Kelly Galloup and John Barr. My current favourite Internet guy is Richard Strolis. CC
  12. I've taken my DSLR in the boat in a Pelican case but I'd like to take it with me when wading but I don't want to lug around the pelican case. I'm interested in hearing what others do. Thanks in advance. CC
