I work with a bunch of 'em in Grande Prairie. Guys driving around in trucks worth 80 grand, hauling trailers worth double that and still hayin' and harvestin' and kickin' ass with their cow *hit stained boots. It's the new generation....welcome to it.

I know that most of you will already know this, but I feel it incumbent upon me to remind those of you who are new to marriage/relationships and want to stay that way, that Mother's Day is on Sunday. Following are the top ten things NOT to say on Mother's Day: 1. "You are not my mother, why should I buy you a present". 2. "I bought my mother the nicest gift. You? Oh....I don't know what the kids bought you". 3. "Don't think of this new fridge as your Mother's Day gift....have one of the imported beers in the fridge and have a great day" 4, "I'm sorry you don't feel like taking up golf today honey. Since the tee time is already booked and paid for, mind if I call my brother?" 5. "I feel the best present I can give you on Mother's Day is peace and quiet and well deserved time for yourself away from the stress of dealing with me. I'm going fishing now but be sure to call me if the kids start to get on your nerves too much". 6. "The kids and I really want to show our love and support for you on Mother's Day so I have bought us all a Jenny Craig pasta dish and brownie for your Mother's Day dinner. I know you wouldn't want to regret giving up your diet". 7. "For a change this year I decided to prolong the joy of Mother's Day and will bring your flowers home with me from work tomorrow. As it turns out they're half price so you can afford to buy those shoes you've had your eye on." 8. "I'm sorry you don't think a hammock is a good Mother's Day Present - it's a hammock built for 2 - I really was thinking of you" 9. "Wow....sure hope there's no hockey on TV on Mother's Day - I'd really hate to miss out on any of the celebration" 10. "It's really too bad that your mother couldn't join us for dinner on Mother's Day. I have 2 gift certificates to Zeller's Restaurant if you want to go take her out". And - if none of that worked - brunch, flowers, card and present is what you need to do. And if you're late on your brunch reso's Executive Royal Inn in the N.E. does a mean brunch and still has room. Don't ask me how I know.

FYI....I ALWAYS say thank you, give a little smile, bat of the eyelashes (well...maybe not that) but I always show appreciation for courtesy shown to me - even if by another woman. I always think that if someone is going to be thoughtful enough to do something nice for me, the least I can do is be kind back. It's the small things like that that matter in life - kinda like the pay it forward concept. Now...don't piss me off in traffic because the same rules apply there

Interesting to see the Canucks do the same thing the Flames were constantly crapped on about. Also interesting to see the immortal Bobby Lou give up 3 in one period. Be that as it may, I don't think that the Canucks are gonna steal anything (despite what my brother in law thinks) and I think it's gonna be a rough, tough, series that probably goes to 7. Your Canucks got lucky last night - either that or they woke up in time. Can't do that kind of stuff in the playoffs.

What an interesting discussion! Here's my take: if you're in a position where you can be a gentleman or chivalrous (i.e. you aren't going to create a situation or inconvenience or delay others because of it) then most, if not all, women will appreciate it. I know a few flaming feminists who would actually go out of their way to resist a man's attempt to be courteous or chivalrous or whatever they want to call it. But I agree with the elevator thing....only because I deal with it every morning too. If you're at the front you gotta get off. There's not alot of room or time to stand aside. And I don't think women, in general, would take offense at a man getting off first.

That's good Birchy - if you're happy with the outcome, take the money and run. My first though about that last sentence was a WTF though so I re-read it. I still don't completely understand it or why he put it in there, but I wouldn't construe it as a threat - and I'm prone to overreacting if you can believe that Glad this got resolved without a nasty court battle. Nobody ever wants to go that route - trust me.

Right....Calgary Sucks....love these sweeping statements....they doubled up on Chicago on shots on goal and just because Khabibulin plays like an all-star Calgary sucks. I love the logic. Good game, not a good result....time to look forward to next year and some changes - and I hope to God they start with Keenan.

Still 40 minutes left....lots of time to close the gap. Gotta say though - that second goal was a rare glimpse into the emotional Kiprusoff - don't see him displaying that kind of anger very much.

We took someone to small claims court on a slam dunk (written proof, verbal proof etc.) and won our judgement plus interest plus costs (plus she never showed so we got a default judgement). Getting payment is another story...I filed the judgement at PPR so I could sieze property or garnish wages if I so chose to and put a lien on her house (but I would have had to wait for her to sell it, or the bank to repo it as it turns out). You have to be prepared to put in time and paperwork to enforce payment - that's the most painful part of the process in my opinion. In the end I wound up threatening her with government investigation into her flea market business vis a vis knock off goods and income tax evasion. Check came 2 days later. If you have an open and shut case and lots of proof (the guy admitted they overflowed the tub!), then pay your $100 filing fee and have at it. That's all you have to lose. And sometimes even just the threat of it is enough to make someone come to their senses - especially when they know they're gonna get hung in the long run. Oh ya....I should mention that I tried being "Mrs. Nice Guy" for almost 2 years trying to get this money owed to us. Nice guys finish last....or in our case, they win.

I should add that I do 99% of my fishing from a boat on the Bow when I do this.

Where ya fishing? On the Bow - we catch our greatest numbers on nymphs but have caught our biggest on dries or hoppers. I always go to a nymph rig until I see some sort of consistent hatch and rise going on. As for fishing with no indicator - I've done it a few times and it's ALOT of fun. Forces you to pay attention more to feel the strike or soft take vs watching an indicator move. I think once you've gotten a good handle on fishing with an indicator then you should give it a try without. For me, it was just a question of figuring out what the takes felt like - especially the soft ones.

This woman is a classic example of how effed up our society is - she will never "make it" no matter how great her voice is because she doesn't "have what it takes" to appeal to the masses on a physical level. What a shame....an extraordinary voice.

Well....add Phaneuf to the IR. Good for Vancouver for taking the division. They're pretty lucky if you ask me - if we didn't have so many injuries this would have been a completely different story.
