What Is The Truth About The H1n1 Flu?
ÜberFly replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Yes they may receive some, but it not nearly as extensive <fact> - I to know chiro's personally... P P.S. I'm not debating chiros, my comment/reply is related to their training/education as it compares to "medical practioners"... So please don't misinterpret/misconstrue. -
What Is The Truth About The H1n1 Flu?

Din, Wow!! I have to challenge this one!! Not for the fact that Chiros have a lot of training, but one can't compare a Chiro's training to a "Medical Specialist", i.e., Allergist, Respirologist, Cardiologist, Pathologist, a Family Physician/General Practioner, or even a Homeopath, - totally different focus. Incident At Police Outpost Lake

Latest update - my sister-in-law has heard indirectly that the search has been stopped and it is now a recovery operation, but this has not been confirmed. -
Incident At Police Outpost Lake
ÜberFly replied to ÜberFly's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
The latest update... Father-in-law spoke breifly to my bro-in-law as he went down this morning to help with the search... Cell coverage is sketchy so the conversation was broken-up and cut short. Thus far we think that Jeff's fishing gear has been recovered and PFD found floating - NOT GOOD signs. Cell phone cut out, but there was some conversation (cut out in mid-sentance), to some effect that there might have been a body recovered. I'll try to get more info updated as it becomes more clear/available. P -
Incident At Police Outpost Lake

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not too sure what's happening, I'm trying to get an update, but I'm a few people removed from the situation... I'll try to post info as soon as I can... I've also tried to google a police report, etc. from the weekend, but haven't been able to find anything thus far... Cheers, P -
Gang, I've just returned from dinner at my sister-in-law/brother-in-law's place and have learned of a disturbing incident that happened/is happening at Police Outpost... A good friend of theirs - Jeff (and avid fly fisher) went out to P O L Friday afternoon to fish (from his kayak). He was supposed to have returned yesterday late afternoon/early evening and he hasn't been heard from. I guess F & W, RCMP have found his van in the campground but from what I understand no Jeff (not sure if they have found his kayak or not)... Please share a positive thought and/or prayer for Jeff, his family and friends... I will keep you all posted on what info becomes available (from what I hear from my sis-in-law/bro-in-law). Thanks, Peter

Yeah as others have mentioned (and use) instead of tying that surgeons knot to keep your shot from slipping, you can also use a swivel which also adds weight and therefore you use less lead (I find less birdnests, especially with mulitple rigs, as well)... For a typical nymphing rig, I use a 7.5' 1X or 2X leader tied to a swivel then 12" - 18" of 6 - 8 lb maxima so first fly sits at around 9' (for the Bow). I then adjust my strike indicator to vary the depth... Works for me! Cheers, P

Yeah - no!! It's a myth!! But they have the turbo flush ones here and they are the *hit (literally and figuratively ) Worth the extra $. Sorry I don't know the technical name for them but talk to a plumber or someone at Benners or anywhere other then Home Depot/Revy and they should be able to set you (me) straight! P
-
Hey Lornce (SilverDoctor) you are a professional designer, you should be able to throw something together in your sleep - pro bono of course ?! P
-
Which ever model you get, get the one with the "Turbo" flush option (like they have in Australia and NZ). I think it's the one Lynn is referring to... P

So I wanted to follow-up with this story as I recieved a letter in today's mail from Minister Ady. "...I have asked staff to review the signage and waste disposal requirements at this location, and to make recommendations to ensure proper management of this site in the future, In addition, I have requested that Conservation Officers make regular patrols to islands along the Bow River that are frequented by boaters to ensure this situation does not occur in the future." Nice gesture for her to follow-up, so we'll see if indeed anything does happen, but with the funding cuts, etc., I doubt there is in fact enough staff... Peter
-
Duh, of course!! Still half asleep!! P
-
I'm sure you know this already, but be reminded that the NW section of the Bow is now closed (Oct 1 - Nov 30)! Fishing is better in the south anyway P
-
I don't disagree with you (but I am not a guide), but I hear the proverbial can of worms opening! P
-
Wow, pretty stacked up at the put in, eh!! Great vid! Nice work! P
-
Thanks Jack and Max! Yeah I guess it's a balance between convenience and portability... Cheers, P
-
Max, I get what you're saying but my intial inquiry was related to the statement you made "i dotn really understand teh dual rated rods" - which was my point... Why have one rod you have to keep switching the rigs up with 2 different lines/spools (taking up time) when you can have 2 rods pre-loaded... So I guess it's one of those questions that cannot be answered (very easily), other then for different presentations (as previously mentioned)... Thanks, P P.S. Maybe I'm just complicating the issue (sorry if that's the case) P.S.S. And with that my friends, I just hit 1000 posts!!!
-
Jack, No sorry, not inquiring about your (pending) design, but the 5/6 dual wt... P
-
Max, So what you are saying (indirectly) is that it's easier to have 2 rods ready to go - a 5 wt for dries &/or nymphs and a 6 wt for streamers (though buying just one 5/6, may be more economical, it's not as convenient)... Thanks, P l
-
Jack, Ok I must be having a blond moment... So with the 5/6 that you used in your example, why would you use/choose a 5 wt vs 6 wt line - bigger fish, throwing nymphs/streamers?! Or just to have different "action"?! The dual rating should be able to handle bigger fish... I still don't "get it" (no cheeky comments, please!)! P
-
Hey Marc, So I understand what you have said - wider grain window, sure, but it would still load differently at either end of that window... So I guess it may or may not be more forgiving depending on the angler (their casting style) and what kind of "action" they want?! ! P
-
Gang, What are the advantages (if there are advatages) with double weighted rods (eg, 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, etc.). Is it just me or does that just confuse things?! The different wts would totally change the load dynamics of the rod, wouldn't they?! I am aware that wts are pretty much recommendations, to begin with (other factors involved, casting style, line wt, type of fishing, etc.), no?! What's the score?! Thanks, Peter

For a neoprene repair you can use aquaseal like previously mentioned or a rubber patch used for a bike tube then send it away during the off season... Also, I think MEC sells some stuff to repair neoprene in their boating section. P

Depending on what kind of knot you use (I use a duncan loop), I can (either) just loosen and slip the knot off of the previous fly's hook shank and keep it all tied up for another time (or) cut it off and re-tie... If I decide to change the entire rig, I tend to store some common 2 or 3 rig combos (and usually use a swivel with my nymphing set up) on a 4 x 4 piece of foam that I keep in my vest (I know others that use a strip of cardboard). I can only store about 4 rigs as it can get messy... As Brad mentioned, I too also use longer sections of tippet in case I decide to retie... Cheers, P
