Stories Of The "strange But True". What Is The
Brownstone replied to a topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
While fishing, Funniest - Watched a local "guide" step off a rock ledge into 20 feet of water, never slipped, walked right off the edge. Lucky he did'nt have any clients at the time. Scariest - Walked upon a black bear north of Hinton on my way back to the truck..so close i could smell him (might have been my shorts i smelled not 100% sure) Weirdest - Little pike stuck halfway through a hole in a piece of steel. (Bow River) Coolest - Watched a monster (what i estimate to be close on 40") Bully eat a +/- 15" Cutty, he flipped it around head first and ate it like a snake EDIT - just remembered one - last summer salmon fishing on the Rock a Dragon fly picked off my fly mid cast and tried to take off with it he had hold of it for 4-5 seconds before he let go .. was'nt no small fly either a bomber on a # 6 or 4 hook..it was as big as the dragon fly -
well, we'll double check with Jock if not we'll have to do a "cinderella" fitting to find out who the stool fits ... EDIT - we'll need a volunteer to check for proper fit .. cause ain;t gonna be I

WEST : Upper Humber from Cache Rapids to Big Falls. Southwest Brook ,Harry's Brook, Fischells, Flat Bay, Robinsons. North : Lomand River, River Of Ponds, Portland Creek (never been up past the pond) Torrent,Big East, Castors River, St. Genevieve. Central : Main River (Sop's Arm) Exploits, Northwest Gander, Conne River. Think that covers the ones I've fished, mind you when i go home fishing now, I mainly stick to the Northern Penninsula, with a couple days on the Humber (my family has a cabin close by) and a trip or two out to Southwest Brook (not great numbers, but the upper section is great to fish)

Upper Humber talk by the sounds of it .. what rivers you fish on the Westcoast John?
-
55 yards is plenty .. if your good

ya know, some would say if you remember George Street you were never really there. I know the way from Water & Duckworth Street..Gullivers always took me..
-
I'll probably be heading out Tueaday morning.

Ive read a few articles and seen some nice pictures of some Brutes out of the Waterford .. check out SPAWN magazine's website, they are more geared towards Salmon but have info and links to trout fishing on the Avalon.
-
I have a fishpond vest..one of the earlier models, 4 years old, I love it, compared to the new stuff..not much different, they haven't changed the styling much at all. durable and light (empty of course) with fully adjustable shoulder and mid section straps. only problem i ever had was, the outer layer of one of the accessory loops became frayed and unraveled.
-
Thats like most people John(myslef included), the Westcoast (gods country ) and Labrador take away from the sea runs on the Avalon .. although the people who fish it swear its the best fishery on the Island ..
-
Yes man, the Avalon has incredible sea run Browns....so the tidal runs of the Waterford .. would'nt that have you fishing right downtown? .. good on ya buddy

Thanks guys, I know i may have went on a little bit of a jackass rant last night and didn't mean to offend anybody, but thats my opinion. I've been ALL over this province, every corner, oil IS the business... ...and to anybody who has not been up to Fort McMurray to see that MASSIVE project, go, your head will spin..and to think 20 years ago it was questionable if that project was even fisable... and for those of you who can;t imagine how things could change so drastically .. I grew up in Newfoundland, we were a have province in the 70's with the fishery booming, but through overfishing, poor resource management, well we all know what happened..you don't have to look to far to find a Newfoundlander living 5000 km from "home" .. the fishery crashed, a 300,000 fishing package (boat, nets etc.) sold off for less than the cost to build them (if you could find a buyer) government funding/training programs sprung up to "save" the fisherman .. without sucess. Take a trip back east (and i don;t mean Ontario, i mean east of Quebec) and you'll see what a economic shift can do to a region ..
-
Hell man, I'd fish all those, couple look bang on what i have in my regular line-up...
-
I'll apologize to no one and edit nothing, get over yourself, if you have something to add then say your piece....don;t just sit there and say I'm arrogant and narrow minded for voicing my opinion .. does everybody work in O&G .. NO .. is everybody in AB getting rich because of O&G .. YES ... Alberta's build on/in/around O&G, take that away and what would happen? .. business as usual I'm sure When the oil boom bursts, (and im not talking a slow period like in the mid-late 90's or the early 80's) it's gonna be a bad one, because the next time its gonna be alternate energy to take us down. We live in a oil driven world, that alone should scare the hell out of anybody.

all very nice RnB .. those stones are gonna slay 'em..

Where's Foppa Gonna End Up?
Brownstone replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
dunno..but a five beer buzz says TO -
popcorn fart of an oil based economy - LOL - any product, service or otherwise sold in this province can be traced back to the energy sector one way or another ..every cent.. so live "free" with no debt ( im sure the great Fishead would have it no other way) and keep looking around..cause the energy sector crashes..your gonna have a million oil workers (and i mean direct oil workers) looking for work, not to mention humptine over educated oil suits .. ALL spending will CEASE, and you'll go belly up (pardon the pun) just like the rest of your not so loyal subjects.. EDIT: the cowboys will make 'er .. those bastards can survive anything

NO SUCH THING

How Well Do You Know Your Bow River Trout??
Brownstone replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I know the fish (I think) remember seeing me last year (although you did'nt know it was me) in your hole? .. two guys in the big blue double man pontoon boat .. I pounded a monster out of that hole late last summer +/- 25 Brunie with shoulders like a linebacker... trout stick around until they are poached or until something happens to that lie they are holding in that no longer makes it desirable, such as drastic water level/temperature changes, but unless the changes are permanent, more than likely, they will return. -
you think if that happens only the people who trip pipe and turn valves will be affected? .. don;t think so pal .. Alberta (the land) will still be here sure, but we'll have no worries about being a "have" province anymore .. what do you think is paying you to build all that *hit up in Balzac? ... oil money ... take away the oil and everyone, including the great Fishead would be unemployed..
