checked into last summer through Icefield Helicopers .. don;t remember the numbers but I nearly shat me pants at the cost to pack your gear something like 2 bucks a pound, with a group of 4 and well planned the cost would'nt sting as much .. Glen, I'll consider a hike into one of the southern lakes the summer.. -

the design of the Sharkskin is gonna pick up and hold-on to slit and other abrasives much better than a standard line .. how are these things gonna be to clean? you'll have to brush the junk from the grooves inch by inch with a toohbrush or somthing .. I stand by my decision : ah crap I'll probably get one

checked it out today at the show .. Troutfitters booth .. they have a couple rods spooled up ready to chuck if you wanna give it a go .. I didn't get to cast it today, but I rubbed it and you can hear/feel the line passing through your fingers, it feels like some sort of rope, not flyline. Gonna be interesting when long term reviews come out I think.. as for the wear on the guides, I i think it will be harder on guides but .. you gotta lot of hours to fish with a regular line to wear out guides, most people break/replace/retire their rod long before this becomes an issue. You have to look a couple things other than the material from which the line is made also. the woven (for lack of a better word) structure is gonna leave lots of spots for very fine sand/debris to collect to effect the abrasive (not to mention buoyancy) effects of the line. And this super fast line, moving at super fast speeds, well that'll just wear you guides out faster anyway. (if your even gonna be bothered by that sort of thing) .. my 0.02 . . ah crap, I'll probably buy one anyway

I grew up in Bay d'Espoir on the south coast of Newfoundland, Aquaculture is big there, mostly "rainbow" trout .. in the spring the ice would damage some cages and thousands of fish would escape into the wild. Bay d'Espoir is home to one of the largest hydro electric developments in North America, so it makes a prime habitat for fish(ing) .. These farm fish although unable to reproduce, would eat massive amounts of food and grow to ridiculous proportions .. They get into the salmon rivers and be compete with young salmon and sea-run trout for food, and since they were use to being force feed in pens, I'd imagine they had an insatiable appetite. At first people saw it as a blessing these "monster" trout, people would travel from all over the island to have a go at them, and since they were not a native fish .. no regulations .. but as I remember after a couple years of escapes it was hard to hook into a nice sea-run brookie that were so ever popular a few years before...I don;t really know how the situation is now (my experience dates back some 12-15 years) but there were major concerns on how they would effect the rivers long-term .. I now the DFO has a program in place for tracking these fish in Newfoundland and people are to report catching one and recording info .. I believe Aquaculture bears the risk to drastically change natural fish habitat ..
