  1. there are some pretty serious hitch locks available that cost hundreds. see them on work trailers a lot. but I suppose troutlover's point should be considered. wouldn't have thought you could actually connect it strongly enough to your hitch if it wasn't on the ball. my solution is a drift boat circa early 1980s.
  2. I wouldn't be quite so specific about oil or forestry or any particular industry. It's money, regardless of its source, that dictates what happens in this city, prov, country and yes the world at large. Myriad examples bear this out. Until we adopt an electoral system that does not rely on a "first past the post" winner it won't change. proportional representation has a real possibility of changing that. everyone's vote counts....everyone's. Doubtful we'll see it anywhere in this country in my lifetime. personally I'm more than disillusioned by an electoral system where only 40% of the eligible votes cast ballots and the "winner" get less than 50% of those votes.
  3. 2 things we need in in this province and country - 1) representation by population, which we do not have in AB and 2) proportional representation (however, depending on how the representation worked, if we had this in AB it may eliminate the need for #1).
  4. I have had Bell for a long time now (7 or 8 years) - switched after some particularly poor service from Shaw. It's OK but for some reason AMC and FX were not available on Bell. But just noticed on Friday that AMC is now on Bell but tied into a movie channel package. I have had a few service interruptions from severe thunder storms but generally no reception issues. Customer service has been about what you expect for a large corporation that is part of an oligopoly. I have not been paying attention to cost on Bell. I've been on the same package of channels for a few years and I think if I renegotiate I can bring the cost down or at least that was the general impression when I called last Friday but did not have time to go through the process. But that's my bad for just paying the damn monthly charge and not looking into a better price for the channels I want.
  5. what the hell would crackheads be doing with rods and reels? not exactly an easy sell on the street for quick cash. seems kind of odd that a fly shop would be the target. maybe thieves for hire?
  6. go for the 6 cyl Subaru and you'll be fine. I used to pull a drift boat with an old Volvo wagon. had a few issues with traction at certain times but otherwise no trouble.
  7. my everyday car is a '12 Subaru Legacy GT - very good car, fold down back seats mean works well for skiing etc. I have a '04 Tundra for when I need a truck. I don't think you'd go wrong with an Outback. my only complaint abt my car is the lack of a couple of bells and whistles (to be exact memory driver seat, auto up & down on all 4 windows) - a bit of a chintzy complaint. it's not a luxury car. I'd expect the RDX to have a leg up on the Outback for luxury items. Having driven a Pathfinder for years I made the switch to a truck and then added a car for everyday driving. I'd never buy another SUV - not much fun for everyday driving and not properly a truck. Cargo area in SUVs is too small unless you go full size and who wants that purchase and operating cost, not to mention the size issues. Since you have a truck I think the Outback is the best choice for an everyday driving car. Not to mention that Subaru has a very high owner satisfaction rating in Consumer Reports - I believe 3rd after Mercedes and Lexus - and very good reliability.
  8. last Friday saw an otter (I think as it was quite large) and 2 mink (smaller) on bow btn police and mac. had never seen an otter before. have seen mink prior to this including on the banks of prince's island park.
  9. to clarify does bidding close Monday June 9 or Tuesday June 10 at 8pm MDT?
  10. try Lifesport in Kensington. They have a wide variety of skis from beginner to expert.
  11. that's bad news. he was always great for informative, if somewhat gruff, conversation in his shop. i really enjoyed listening to his opinions on rods, reels etc etc. will miss him and his shop. any news on what it was - sudden and unexpected (eg heart attack) or something ongoing?
  12. not sure about fall leaves but Leighton Artist Colony has fantastic views of the foothills and i believe is generally open to the public to wonder around. Not far from Calgary and would be interesting roads to drive on in any case.
  13. won't be dead until the bully is outed......someone step up.......
  14. just curious are you under 22X or deerfoot extension?
  15. don't see why it would not be a good idea. clearly won't be manning up anytime soon to give his side of the story. given the fact the mounties attended the scene, shook copperjonny's hand and sent him on his way would support his side of the story (again good on him for settling the gossip). the other party deserves to be outed for his behaviour.
  16. orijen - fish formula premium, made in Canada food.
  17. final piece of the puzzle is the name of this person.......then all would be disclosed.....he deserves to be outed......anyone?
  18. 1. kudos for copperjonny for stepping up and explaining the full story. 2. more kudos for copperjonny for taking care of an a-hole who is clearly acting like a bully in his words and actions. 3. sorry you had to deal with that....seems completely out of left field at a boat launch....why would someone act that way?
  19. did he get a hook in the face?
  20. i have used EJ previously but on the interweb they're getting hammered by customer comments to thought i'd see if there was another option. guess i'll go back there and take my chances.
  21. Need to have my gas powered lawn mower serviced - Sears mower with Honda engine. Any suggestions as to where to get a full service done - motor to cutting blade etc? Thanks.
  22. if he's only accepting cash he will no doubt not report it on his income tax for 2013. get his info and report him to the CRA. and leave a note on his trailer telling him he is being reported to the CRA to ensure he reports the income.
  23. i have the 389-3 LL....it's my go to dry fly and small stream rod.....it's a keeper for sure
