out of curiousity how fast have you had it up to?
-
wow what a story!!! even with my particulary vivid imagination i've got a hard time imagining what it would be like to have a grizzly charge you. do you think your dog would still be alive if it was with you?

heard on cbc radio that the cougar in fish creek had been trapped and will be relocated. so assuming it's the only one likely ok now.

do you know how to roll those? sounds a bit nasty to me. -
caught a piece on the local news a few evenings ago about the trout along the glenmore trail underpass costing $400,000 to make and install. the city mouthpiece was talking about the bow river and stated that there are 5 species of trout in the bow. i immediately thought bullshit but later wondered if perhaps she's right. personally have seen rainbow, brown and bull trout. are there in fact 2 others present?

sorry to hear of your "incident." it can be surprising how we react in certain situations. don't worry about he A@#$%&%'s head though. Everyone knows the head is a big bleeder so it probably looked worse that it was. good on you for carrying on with the reporting even after the incident occurred. surely you'll get some fish karma out of that. btw best use of bait....EVER!!!!

hey you're some kinda motor slut aren't you?

WTF?!?.....do the fish just jump b/c the boat is going by or is the boat dragging something to cause the fish to jump? how long would it be before there's a video of someone with a shotgun off the back of a boat?

and actually a friendly guy. i had occassion to have a few drinks with him and a lady friend of his when my biz ptr and were in california on business in the late 90s. he was very sociable. my partner had the best line when we were introduced to him - the introducer said "do you know ron jeremy" he quickly replied "no but i'm very familiar with your work."

oh boy that is nasty alright!!!

oops sorry i thought it was directed at me specifically, my mistake. on the topic of how hard fish fight i've got a very good friend who spent years guiding in new zealand and caught (him or the sports) lots of double digit browns. it was his view that if the browns fought like bow river rainbows they'd never be able to land them. we've got a great fighting population of 'bows here in the bow.

yeeesh, how is asking questions belittling their catching of good sized fish? they obviously found the spot where the big ones hang out and eat. nothing wrong with that. like to know the spot my self but likely wouldn't do any good b/c i don't fish with hardware/bait. no question they know how and where to catch fish and are good at it. however, questioning how a fish that grew to an adult being hand fed can be the world record for largest rainbow is not belittling their accomplishment. why not, as hydropsyche says, simply grow some fish in a closed envirnment then when they are very large throw them into a lake and then start catching them (assuming they would grow large enough). would that be any different? equating catching trout in the bow (or wherever) that descended from fish stocked decades years ago with catching a brood fish that escaped as an adult and bulked up from there is as the saying goes apples and oranges boys. apples and oranges.

i can't see the government doing anything on this issue. look at the shameful situation with the education system in this province. we are the richest prov in the land and our children's education is totally underfunded and SNAFU'd. and the healthcare situation is as bad if not worse. if the government cannot properly govern when it comes to such important matters like education and healthcare how on earth would they be able to do anything about an issue like the natural moving path of a river. and should they? maybe yes maybe no. what's more important to the population as a whole? it's going to be very interesting to see the outcome of the by-election in Calgary Elbow on monday (klein's old riding). if the conservatives lose maybe it'll be a sign that people are starting to understand that a government with no plan, no vision, no understanding, no respect and frankly a lot of mlas/ministers that couldn't properly organize a bj in a whore house is a bad idea. this province's policital system is in a bad way. is there any alternative to the pcs? can the liberals field a government? can any other party? would any other party be any different in gov't or would it be like the federal stage where the conservatives are every bit as self interested, liars and show a lack of respect to the public as the liberals before them? are there any qualified people interested in getting into politics in alberta? does the population view the whole election as a fait 'accompli for the PCs every time and thus don't really care and therefore don't vote? will we every have represtentation by population in alberta?

can a hatchery fish be a world record? doesn't seem like it should. starts out life in a protected pen being spoon fed. then it makes a break for it into the lake and eats more than its fill. doesn't sound like a fair comparison to a fish that is spawned in the wild and fights every day to avoid predators and find food. hey good on those guys for successfully chasing big trout and other fish but imdao making that fish the world record is the same as giving barry bonds the home run record - tainted and smells all wrong.

no question the ducks deserved the win and the cup this year. although i wanted the cup to come back north of the 49th i will take solace in the fact the ducks had the most fighting majors and the most penalty minutes this year. the first team to win the cup with the most penalty minutes since the 1975 flyers. i say no to milquetoast hockey and kudos to burke for assembling a team that is tough and talented.

don't get too impressed Russells was acquired by Wholesale so no reason not to get same price. haven't been to the new store just b/c generally the service is so bad in wholesale (eg. fishing section guy tells me oh yeah this stuff is the same as aquaseal but way cheaper - after applying copius amounts to waders found out that it is quite a bit different than aquaseal). but perhaps time to give the new store a chance.

i think mine were about $375 but there were other pairs that were $500. the ones i bought actually don't fit that well but i didn't want to buck up for the more pricey ones. i'd check on pearle vision as was suggested in case they have the great sale here in calgary too. another good brand is Action Optics (although i think they may have been taken over by smith?) which is what i had b/f the maui jim's but lost them on the red deer one night. they're available at Troutfitters and run about $250 (and some a bit less too).

of the 3 pairs of polarized i have the maui jim's are the best but also the most $$.
