  1. can't say i quite agree with hawgstoppah on the officiating last night. overall pretty good. the only thing that really got me was at about 3mins left in the second the puck was centred in front of the hawks net and the flames player was crosschecked from behind before the puck got there....would have been a scoring chance. but once again you can't blame the loss on the officiating. the flames couldn't score on their many opportunities. a lot of scrambles around the net and rebounds just out reach etc etc. need a couple of bounces to go our way.....for a change. it was a decent effort but unfortunately not enough finish .... again .... and still not enough physical play in my view. but give the 'hawks credit. they're playing well....esp their big guns. and damn that 'bulin and his acrobatics. decent games to watch with lots of action.
  2. concrete examples. the goal called back against us a few games ago when glencrosses skate was barely touching the crease....he was a foot away from the goaltender. (not to mention the phantom high stick goal calle off 30 seconds later). ladd makes no effort to avoid kipper and it's a non-call. byflglien trips kipper behind the net with the ref in the corner watching the play. no penalty. jokinen punched in the face while the ref is watching. no penalty. just saying..... still no excuse for not winning the last game though....it wasn't because of officiating they lost. and cammilleri didn't deserve a suspension for the tap he gave havlat....it barely warranted a penalty in the first place and highsticking is the call? yeah another good call.......
  3. i know it sounds like whining but i tend to agree with you on the reffing. we seem to get a lot of calls against us.....but earlier we were winning in spite of that so it was ok (not really ok but you know what i mean). however, you can't let that get into your head or you may as well not be on the ice. gotta play your game and let the chips fall where they may....at least the PK is working.... i think sometimes you may need to take a penalty to send a message. in the last game against vancouver i believed we needed to hit/bump/bother luongo and if resulted in a penalty rely on the PK. and now the same with 'bulin....get in his face and head if you can. look at the way byflglein tripped kipper and ladd's interference. that stuff adds up over a 7 game (hopefully) series. and i wouldn't mind if say vandemeer or nystrom (not roy save him for a real fight if necessary) were to hang a lickin' on the next hawk that gives kipper any guff at all even if it means and instigator minor....twice if necessary. let 'em know that we won't take it and you will be challenged and hopefully punished for bothering kipper. we've got a physical advantage over the 'hawks and we need to use it especially in the 'hawks end - pound the defence at every opportunity on the forecheck.....we won't win this series otherwise....and at least if we lose we lose playing the game that got us this far. there's a reason that don cherry likes the flames they play old time physical hockey. go flames go!!!
  4. yeah pretty clearly should have been interference on the OT goal BUT the flames should not have let the game get into OT. what are they doing protecting a 2-1 lead with 15mins to go?!?!? a trapping team maybe but that is not the flames' game. that was a big mistake....keenan. a decent effort by the flames but they cannot and won't win unless the PP starts scoring....esp in the playoffs when goals are particularly hard to come by. and they have to be even more physical than we were last night as that's an area of the game where they have the advantage. how about some net crashing? kipper was tripped behind his own goal and there was no response by the flames. quid pro quo!!! hopefully the PP will finally come to life in the next game....
  5. just wanna say thx to the oilers for beatin' the canucks. the gagne goal was a thing of beauty. luongo looked pathetic on it. always good to see a goal like that live.
  6. bhurt, there's no question that saddam was a bad guy and did a lot of bad things to his own people - and no personally i don't believe it's ok for governments to purposely kill their own citizens. however, the original gulf war was because iraq invaded an independent soverign nation without provocation - kuwait. it had nuttin' to do with the kurds being massacred by saddam. and there are plenty of examples of situations where gov'ts around the world are killing their citizens - saddam had no monopoly on that. in the current iraq war it's not a question of the us military/intelligence giving wrong intel to the white house. it's the white house ignoring the real evidence and fabricating its own evidence to support their desire to take out saddam. the us chose to invade an independent sovereign nation without provocation. don't see why it's not ok for iraq to invade kuwait but it's ok for the us to invade iraq. the us really had no business invading iraq. or rather for some it was good business sense to invade iraq - there's a lot of people getting rich off that war. but not the ~100,000 dead iraq civilians or the 4,262 dead US soldiers or 179 dead UK soldiers. in one of the posts i deleted i did note that obama's recent announcements may bode well for the afghanistan situation so hopefully the situation will improve there for the Canadian (and coalition) troops and the afghan people.
  7. i say start mcelhinney tonight. shake 'em up. do something. it's ugly right now although i only listened to the last 2 games in the radio. wrt to ass kicking it's not so much that the players are trying hard it's how they're trying. sorta like after the sj blowout in november. time to rethink/rejig/remember to play position. take the man etc etc. some knute rockne inspiration. attitude adjustment. every game is a must win for the flames now or at the very least a point. the apr 7 contest will be critical although the flames could be behind the canucks by then....or maybe ahead...ya never know with this team. and to top it off the canucks get to play the avs twice more b/f the end of the year!!
  8. like dave said sticks and stones baby sticks and stones. the issue, inmdfo, is that in the US they don't really get that it was the americans that started the war in afghanistan (or had to start and yes the taliban were bad and pretty much the whole world agreed they deserved what they got) then promptly dropped the ball and moved onto iraq leaving afghanistan in a mess and other countries to try and clean it up. now of course the taliban is all over afghanistan again flexing their muscle. the US didn't do things properly in afghanistan and pretty much dropped the ball to topple hussein for cheney's own personal reasons/vendetta......
  9. i always say that it doesn't matter so much how the team is playing in december as it does in march/april. so far this spring the flames look mediocre. ay carumba it's hard to be a flames fan these days. could they be any more inconsistent? hopefully an ass-kicking by sutter will get things straightened out but if they don't turn it around they'll be in 5th before they know it (maybe on the weekend) playing the hawks on the road. alhthough if they don't win the division personally i'd rather see them in 6th playing the canucks in round 1. that would be a good series to watch.
  10. uh oh ... like the flames of old ... losing games to teams way down in the standings. not a good thing at all. and yes i hate to admit highlander the canucks are definitely in the rear view mirror now. not to mention the two toughest games of the road trip ahead. ah well brodeur is due for a come down after his rather stellar return....isn't he? the worst would be a loss to the leafs on saturday. that would hurt. go flames go.
  11. hmmm based on your posts i you were an interesting character with experience and an excellent sense of humour. now i'm even more intrigued in that i'm from outlook originally. since this story broke been trying to figure out if it would be worthwhile to go back "home" to fly fish diefenbaker. what's your connection to outlook?
  12. uh oh. i don't like the looks of this. beating the good teams and not the bad ones. definitely been a problem in years past - the old flames. let's hope this was just a blip and they'll get back to playing like they can and have been - the new flames columbus will be a good test of whether it's back to the old flames or the new flames.
  13. i don't think you actually need to register for the warranty to be effective in canada. i've had 2 sage rods repaired under warranty neither of which was registered.
  14. i think you'd have to pay for the inspection but it would be worthwhile and then you can take it where you want. the last car my wife and i bought we first agreed on a price subject to inspection. then negotiated a number of issues off the price that was agreed upon based on the inspection. i have actually seen cars where the owner had the inspection down but at something like joe's garage. personally i'd be a little sceptical of those.
  15. d'oh what a homer simpsom move. the software that came with the camera does this. thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious.
  16. thank gawd for some depth on the team this year. spreading the scoring around makes a big big difference. bourque, glencross, moss and dammit even bertuzzi have been contributing nicely. if only kipper can get back to his old ways.
  17. i have the olympus 770sw. have resolution on highest setting which presumably makes sense or why bother have a camera with that resolution. pics are fine but very large in size for emailing (generally about 1.5mb). is there anyway to shrink the size of them after they are downloaded to the computer? thx, james
  18. kinda like a discussion on hunting board recently regarding sunday hunting. the "authorities" are (were) telling people that only game birds could be hunted on sunday but that didn't include pheasants or migratory birds. blatantly wrong. i think the rule is fight the power.
  19. hmmm, don't agree. my fave rod is (should be was) sage 389-3LL. great on small streams and great on the bow river. had a 379LL which was good too but way prefer the 8'9" the extra reach is great. also have a winston 7'6" and it hasn't left the closet in about 6 years. probably one of those to each his own things. what would the problem be with it longer? but unfortunately my pal's @#$%^&*(@#^%$ choc lab turned it from a 3 piece into a 5 piece rod as i was stringing it last weekend. still don't understand how he broke a 7" piece out of one of the sections but he did. not sure what will happen with the warranty as i think the LL line is discontinued.
  20. i don't have my camera with me so I can't look to exactly where it is but i believe it's an option when you are transferring photos. I didn't see it myself when i first got the camera. The other issue is that i think once you turn it on it will always delete them (or is it you have to choose the delete option every time i forget) so careful if you want to keep some on your camera for say displaying on a tv. i will try to check tonight as to where it is on the process that you choose it. i do recall it is not intuitively easy to use. you can also delete all the pics at once using the menu on the camera or of couse pic by pic (which would be a pain in the ass).
  21. didn't you get a CD with the camera that had the Olympus transfer software? i did (bought 770SW in March 2007) and it was called Olympus Master 2. works fine. likely can get it off the interweb at Olympus site - i'm guessing.
  22. on the transfer software that came with my camera this an option you can choose during the download to erase the pics after the transfer. that would be another option.
